Did D3RLORD3 become King's pawn in this artist's interpretation?
I came to this conclusion after overanalyzing your drawing and my overanalysis. So please buckle up and get ready to read A LOT.
I find it interesting that post-king in Yellow D3RL0RD3 looks less alive: he stands in a very stiff static pose, unmoving, looking in the camera. The black gradient making him look more worn down and faded, even tho his armour before King looks much more worn down.
The way he looks in the camera like an analogue horror with a pitch black in place of the face makes him look even more unsettling and also connects to the King. He's usually drawn looking at the viewer directly, kinda like D3RLORD3 in your drawing.
I find how he looks at the viewer very interesting, because it can be interpreted in so many ways.
1. The silent acknowledgement. He knows that we are there, but he's either too tired and his mind too overwhelmed to do anything about it or he knows that we are here and doesn't really care, because he knows that he can easily destroy us.
2. "We both know" look. He knows that we are aware of what happened to him and silently warns us not to repeat his mistakes
3. He is controlled by the King in Yellow.
I also noticed that he has a brand new armour, as if he was promoted to a higher position: from the adventuring knight to the royal guard (his cloak is brand new with gold elements, the armour is kinda different (from colour to model ), the buckle is changed, his helmet's red thingy is much longer and set in place, the belt with pockets completely disappeared )
There are also much more yellow in D3RLORD3's design now than before. Did he become King in Yellow's pawn??? Makes me think
