☆ - “I’d say! Hoho, luckily, rising back up at this point-a should be a specialty!” Mario merrily adds in on the matter. He’s unsure whether he should be proud from the never ending list of pulverizing he managed to claw himself above again and once more. None the less the fighting spirit bolstered through the years decides to keep that good feeling as a fond smile is offered to Rosalina. The idea of them having their hands full was unconsciously causing him to crack his knuckles in preparation, a set gaze focused on the scenery beyond as he stands by her side.

☆ - Again it came, the most unexpected form of a well welcomed act. Here he was satisfied in ensuring that not a hair was harmed upon her head, that her radiant form of a smile could prevail despite the insane number of difficulties that enjoyed plaguing her. What had been a plan to keep her spirits strong with a round of small talk as they sack up to head off were flipped by a complete reversal. Never did he want to himself greedy in this regard, to this day he’d try his damn best not to be. Yet when the moments transpired..? Was it wrong to experience that rush of emotional that stormed in him more than any fight--

Whenever her lips graced his cheek in the form of a earnest kiss?

It felt as it a power shot through him that easily triumphed the might of any star that melded with him. Jumping well off the Kingdom’s grounds and the planet at that easily scoped into the realm of possibility. It made him happy. Happy in a way that in one way or another he knew was there, simply hadn’t bothered to vocalize, bother or fear? It was a balance upon those concepts that he paid no mind too. He’d much rather just smile in full and revel in this sensation of his heart melting. Already feeling that firm heat of a blush dust at his cheeks,  not a moment was wasted in order to peer towards her.

To get a firsthand look at the beauty of princess who managed to smile strong through whatever grip of despair aimed her way. Mario couldn’t help but admire that about her, that strength unspoken of more than anything to not end up pulling her hair out from these ordeals. Conjured within his spirit was that relentless need to protect. To make sure that he was someone courageous enough to stick by her side when things truly got rough. In more ways than one, they long since kindled this friendship into a teamwork of sorts.

Always was it a unspoken goal between them and their many friends.

Keep this world safe.

☆ - “Just a high five? Mmmmmm, I’m not-a too sure there bro..” In fact Mario found good reason to give this condition a good few once overs! Not that his sibling was prone to offering pranks or anything of the sort, at least that often, but he couldn’t resist just making a bit of a scene. Even down to the minute details like the prolonged hum and those eyes that held that contemplative form of judgement. Better believe that he’s onto these games!

If he were to stare hard enough, it could be noticed that a end of Mario’s lips had twitched, fighting all he could to resist the incoming smile from taking over. Moments where they could kick back and just be silly were too good to pass up.

💚- A memory that makes them feel guilty

☆ - It’s been a time too long and far that this chill being experienced, he couldn’t tell whether it was felt inside or out. All that coursed with each beat of his heart was this sensation of all consuming dread voraciously pinning to finally sink it’s teeth into that steadfast glaring with vitality. At this point, it may as well, judging by the horrified stare that couldn’t just shake from his face, but any of his companions as they remained. Once confident eyes find themselves wavering at the sight before them.

Which was nothing at all.

Nothing but a bleak scape of pure ivory stretched on for what Mario could assume was endlessly. Moments prior they were locked into combat with Bleck’s forces, the members of this kingdom teetering close to ruin, and now, nothing at all. Try as they might, nothing could’ve changed the inevitability of this end. A few steps made would echo into the depths of the void as he glanced to and fro. No glimmer or hint of a scenery could be change was spotted, outside from a few pillars that someone survived the crash of the void.

This was the price. One way or another they’ve managed to live through it, only them. For the rest of this world? Everything from the sky above to the rich architecture, the people.. they were all devoured. That unshakable feeling of uselessness couldn’t resist growing in the form of a lead weight in his gut. Breathing hitched, the tightening of his gloves could be heard as his hands settled into the form of struggling fists. Emotion aimed to burst forth, to roar out, to comfort the others. Yet how could he?

When he failed to save anyone, one person from this world from being killed? It was a feeling that pound that seed of doubt strong into the depths of his spirit. For one surprising moment, he just didn’t hold the strength to push onward. All Mario could do was sink to his knees. All that could offered was a hollowed gaze to the endless abyss that stared right back. This is the reality they were fighting tooth and nail to prevent, that they were desperately attempting to stave the amount of sacrifice in order to prevent.

To prevent the World of Nothing being the solitary existance.

“Why..”

It was a useless question. When did twisted hearts ever need a complex reason, when their resolve was reason enough to pursue this sort of goal?

   The one good thing about visiting the Mushroom Kingdom was that it was the absolute best. Ada always appreciated how bright and colorful and…happy everything always felt. Heck, even the clouds were happy, most of the time!

   Today, the rabbit-hooded wanderer had happened upon an invincibility star, and was bounding from block to block, playing a bit of physics-abusing parkour…at least, until she slipped, tumbled and sprawled on the ground. Relatively unscathed, judging by the laughter, but it was enough of a botched moment for the star’s power to wear off.

   …Aaand hopefully nobody had seen her slip up like that.

☆ - A pair of eyes certainly did catch that! As the residual of star magic continued to disperse, Mario was more prominently focused on the figure who made quite the face plant! Natural caring instincts had already set his feet into motion, bounding over the grassy plain in no time at all in order to reach her. What was about to be an initial question on her safety, it turned into a relieved sigh once he picked up on the giggling.

He couldn’t blame a single soul for having fun here! After a quick scan to ensure there weren’t no baddies lurking around them, “You having some fun there?” Maybe it was the infectous nature of the laughing, but he couldn’t stop a brief chuckle himself. Extending a hand, it would be an open offer in order to help her up.

☆ - “Whoa..” Just what in the world was that? It was the sole question drumming within his mind the longer his vision was able to study the behemoth of a beast. In moments like this, he was thankful for the perks of just being of the background! He could already see the lakeside ripple and small waves rise due to the flapping of it’s wings alone as it hovered over the small valley of water. Were they safe to talk too? At this point any hope of securing that star piece that remained in the depths at the lakebed was out the question.

If this fella was looking for a meal, that certainly kicked up to being the first priority! Instead he’d remain and just soak in the image for the time being. Rude as it may be, the hippogryph may notice the prying eyes of a plumber at the grassy edge of the lake’s settlement.

“Mario! Good to see you again!” Peach said, giving a small curtsy to the plumber. “Are you busy? Or were you just visiting?” she asked.

☆ - “Princess!” It was surprise short lived. Instead, that flood of relief had unconscious skimmed through him as he couldn’t resist showing her a full on smile. Her question was quickly taken into consideration, causing him to give a light shake of his head, one of his hands bashfully rubbing at the back of his head. “Y’know it’s good to see-a you too, as always!”

☆ - Odd enough as it was, just catching a glimpse to one of the most heartwarming sights to him flicked back the pages of his life to him. By now this act they dove into was almost traditional after they’ve been off for a long duration. Always did Mario find himself glancing towards the younger with a far off look in his eyes. Not there was an issue, far from it, he just can’t help but to be so damn thankful for what they’ve built up so far.

No amount of time or distance apart could help to shatter this bond forged by an unbreakable sense of familial love. All this forethought applied and here he hadn’t realized that the distance between them shrunk further, that his own feet were steadily covering ground in order to unite them both after another adventure well done. That far off look soon flourished into a full of smile as his arms stretched wide, dramatically so to swoop Luigi on end as they practically crashed into each other.

Clumsy and unprofessional, just as it was meant to be as a joyous laugh rang from Mario’s lips. Who he held in this instance was one of his key pillars of support, part of that inexhaustible strength that gave him the courage to do so many things. Even now, he can’t imagine the places he’d be if his younger brother wasn’t by his side. How bleak things really couldn’t be if they weren’t the Mario Bros. Just as he knows that Luigi would do for him..

Mario will happily throw everything on the line to ensure his brother’s safety.

”Luigi! Try’na get the surprise jump there on me? Heh heh, don’t think your ol’ bro here is the sort to go down without a bit of a fight!” He exclaims, his words playful as always with no ill intentions.
