“Abe!’ The librarian spoke happily as she sat on one of the benches in the common grounds, but as he got closer -- not responding, until he was right in her face. His eyes were.. distant, compared to the warmth they used to hold.
“Silas is in trouble,” he spoke to her, grabbing her by the wrist, in a rushing way which only made her think the worst, “Renegades got him in the forrest, I came to get you right away -- we need to hurry.”
All she did was nod, unknowing that this man was not Abel at all but a sick clone of him only used to get her alone. And she fell for it. Which she would hate herself for later, it would crush her trust for people until it was dust in the back of her mind. They were both quick on their feet, she could feel her heard racing in her ears.
A band of renegades? Why did they want Silas? She didn’t know much about him, but she did know that he was hundreds of years old and he had a past that stretched out twenty of hers. She moved faster, her fear screaming at her in her ears to help the man that she had a responsibility to. He may have been assigned to protect her, but she wasn’t going to leave him alone.
That’s when he stopped.
“What are you doing? Is he close?” She spun around, her chest heaving from the adrenaline, before she was face to face with Abel again. He was just staring at her, straight lined face, “I have been waiting so long for this.”
He lunged, taking her down -- and she heard a crack! from a fallen branch under her that sent pain through her back. And her body reacted before she could. As the man was digging his fingers into her arms to try to get her to be pinned down, fire started to dress her skin lowly at first, before it was engulfing her entire body -- causing him to jump up.
She had to react.
Amaya’s back was still wrenched with pain, but it wasn’t broken. And she knew she was bleeding, but she wasn’t even sure from where anymore. She just had to get away. He lunged for her again, obviously so desperate to capture her that he would burn himself in order to do it. She lunged the fire at him through her hands, throwing like she was practicing pitching in softball, but ten times the speed. She did so until he was backed against a tree, and then she took off, leaving leaves burning in her tracks. She glowed from the fire that was still licking against tree trunks as she ran, but now it glowed a eery blue from the anger, the betrayal, the confusion she felt. That couldn’t have been Abel. No. But where was Silas?
She didn’t stop when she left the forrest, the fire starting to die down on her body instead just wrapping around her hands like gloves, for defense.
The brunette was panicking. She had no idea what to do. Look for Silas? Look for Abel? Go see if other people were hurt? No. She was afraid, she needed to protect herself. Maybe this was someone just watching her for her gift. She racked her brain to the only place that she would feel safe -- the library.
