The animals in the other happy place have been altered or bred to suit the entities’ aesthetics and needs. They don’t seem to find the same things as us to be appealing at all.

Also in the bottom picture you can see part of the city the story takes place in. With The Tick Dog drinking….something….

Vinnie, the main character, is unsure if the “dog” is a dog that has been so altered it resembles a tick, or a tick so altered it resembles a dog. She does know they have a very intense urge to bite and drain you.
