Realizing I trauma bond
My first blog. Here it goes...
Why has it taken me 55 years to realize my trauma was real?. Maybe it's because my profession is helping others that are experiencing substance abuse, mental health challenges and victims/survivors of domestic violence. My goal is to assist others in learning healthy life/coping skills and most importantly Instilling Hope. As I have listened to so many painful, trauma filled life experiences from others, I have come to the realization that what I experienced growing up and the choices I have made in my life are directly related to my childhood trauma. Like, I actually said out loud one day, "Wow. It really was that bad". I lived my life for so many years not acknowledging how the bad things that happened growing up and into adulthood were actually really BAD. I used to brush it off all the time. "Oh, that's not that bad". "Other people had it way worse than me". "It's how I grew up, so it was what it was".
I am choosing to share my story as a way of therapeutic release. I've had 3 steadfast therapists in my life, and have learned alot about myself. But still., my journey of healing is never ending. I need to be heard. I matter. You need to be heard. YOU matter.
