(Filming) The Odyssey

*A project for Espai 13, Joan Miró Foundation, Barcelona Taking a childhood memory as a starting point and pursuing a free, feminine interpretation of the Odysseus myth, this video installation by Bárbara Sánchez Barroso is an account of a character's journey across the sea in search of a place that is supposedly related to her own origin. The Odyssey is a video piece that explores the intersections between fiction and biographical narrative, appealing to the inherent human drive to turn experiences into stories. The piece also refers to the role of foundational narratives in both the development of the collective imagination and the construction of a personal subjectivity, suggesting the significance of journeys as metaphors for personal quests. --- El viatge com a metàfora, com a exploració personal. Quan es viatja viatgem de dos maneres diferents, física i interiorment. Fer una exploració del concepte de viatge, de la seva èpica, però des de la perspectiva d’una dona. Una flaneur. Viatjar i tornar, el canvi que s’ha produït, no tornem al mateix lloc ni som els mateixos. Tornar a una casa a la que no es pot tornar mai, perquè ja no és el que era abans. La soledat. Reviure el mite, refer La Odisea, sense l’heroi, sense l’èpica, reviure una ficció somniada, una cerca als orígens fictícia.
