ock jumps to the worst possible conclusion as the two re-enter. Thalmor. Theyâd been found out, they were under arrest for harboring a fugitive, it was off to the mines for all of them⌠but Biel doesnât seem nervous, quite the opposite, so Lock merely regards Fontaine with guarded suspicion.
âWhoâs this?â he asks, reaching over to take the armful of food Biel is carrying to Toiq. âWeâre not all going to fit in here if your Thalmor pal wants to stay the night too.â
âThank you, Biel.â He gave a small huff, entering.Â

âBe up for whaââ Fontaine paused, staring at the smaller man. The hate soon left his features and another emotion took its place. Something close to worry, perhaps? It left as quickly as it came as the scowl returned to his face.
âWhat was he doing in the mines? They only throw convicts into the minesâŚâ The MO didnât fit at all. Toiq was as harmless as baby bear so long as you didnât threaten his dear mammoth or his own life. Even then, he attempted reason before attacking. Which was a surprise by itself. The altmer straightened, determinded to look completely neutral when he saw the half-giant again, âVery well. Just remember, I am not doing this because I LIKE either of you. I am simply helping for my own selfish needs. Toiq is useful to me and no one hurts something I claim as mine.â With that said he strode toward the room, expecting Biel to follow and open the door for him.
âYouâre telling me that? As if Toiq could be considered a convict.â
Bielrin rolled eyes eyes when Fontained hastened to assure him that he was only helping out because Toiq was an asset. He was beginning to remember why the other elf wasnât his favorite person on Nirn. But the main thing was that he was helping, so Biel kept his mouth shut.
Until Fontaine made it clear he was meant to open the door for him, that is. This time when Bielrin rolled his eyes, it was in such an exaggerated fashion that Fontaine couldnât have missed it. âAlright, alright. This way, your highness!â With that, the Bosmer opened the door and ushered Fontaine into his room. In a normal inn, the room would have been crowded already, but thankfully the Dwemer had liked big rooms almost as much as theyâd liked stone beds.
Needless to say, when the door opened, he was not expecting what entered first. Toiq's figure stretched forward painfully, sitting up and gave the Altmer an awkward stare. "Black-cloth...?" He crossed his legs, having no intention of laying back down just yet. "I did not know you were here..." He could muster a smile for him. Everything that had happened had given him enough strength for that.
Biel entered not but a few moments later, food in his arms. Immediately his eyes, their color dulled by the darkness of the mines lit up, a new life sparked into them. His hands moved forward slightly, clenching just a bit in complete desire and focus. Â His stomach let out another groan. "I-is that..." He licked at his chapped lips, "Is that for me..."
He moved forward, too hastily for his condition, and something popped. He leaned back just as quickly, putting his hand on the area and whining softly. "E-eh... C-can you bring it to me, Biel...? Hehe..."

When the Naga ran his thumb over his shoulder, Toiq shuddered. His aching muscle finding ease in the touch. He looked up at his new friend with a smile, maybe that was all he really needed. Reassurance was never in vain with the Giant. He himself found it difficult to find negativity when there was always light at the end. He had gotten out of the mines. That was already enough for a smile.
âBiel is a very good friend. I would not wish a day without him as one,â Toiq started, keeping his back flat on the floor. âI am glad he did not flee from my camp the day we met. Most small-kind do. Do you have that problem, Lock? I think they do not like what is larger than them⌠You are big enough to be a Large-kind, heh.â
His stomach was becoming obnoxious; even annoying himself. He put his hand on his stomach and frowned, mumbling in Giantish.Â
âGood to hear my suspicions about your friend were right. Itâs not usual, someone proves themselves trustworthy so quickly.â Lock sits against the wall, his scales scraping dryly against the stone.
âIt hasnât been a problem so much in Skyrim, actually. I get looks, sure, and mean words once in a while but folks here have been surprisingly accepting. If anything, itâs my fellow lizards that get ansty when Iâm nearby. Bad memories of home, Iâd guess.â
He stared at the ceiling as the Argonian spoke, his heart sinking in his chest. "I know what that feels like, Lock." Toiq reached his arm out, looking at his once sun-baked skin. The tone of it too light to be a Bosmer, yet too dark to be a Giant. It was some odd mix of the two. There were a few Giants that were not accepting of him when he had lived with them, and the Bosmer were first to cast him out.
"Skyrim has been very slow to accept me, they fear the Large-kind," he stated, "it is very different that we are friends with Small-kind." For a moment he shrugged. "There are some Small-kind that give gifts and ask that we leave them alone, but we do not usually bother Small-kind unless they start. I do not understand many things. I think I will never understand Small-kind, heh."
filiusgigas asked: -Peers at awkwardly, frowning.- ...â¤
.. Why the long face, handsome?Â
Come down here, where I can reach you!
Whatâs got you frowning?
I.. -clears throat- I wanted another gift from you but I did not know how to askâŚ
Thatâs all you ever have to do, Toiq! Ask, I mean. Iâd be happy to give you more!
-Grins sheepishly.- Okay, Biel.Â

Another day, another job for the good of his people. Which was what he would like to say but in reality it was just a simple messenger job to the thalmor of Markarth. Boring, to say the least. He would claim it was of great importance later on and keep from complaining to his superiors for giving him such a lowly task.Â
He was THE Fontaine. He shouldnât be doing servant work! He should be doing something worthwhile! He should be a justiciar by now! Now he was in this ratty old Inn while he awaited his next task from the Thalmor of Markarth. His mind wandered and he found himself itching to do something as he laid on the uncomfortable bed. Stone beds, what were they thinking? He swore he would complain the next time he saw the innkeeper. Said innkeeper seemed to know exactly how to avoid him after the ten other complaints Fontaine screamed at him⌠Probably just a coincidence.
And now his new neighbors were thumping around as they entered their room, he could even hear muffled voices. It wasnât helping his mood at all.
Fed up, he finally moved to leave his room, stepping out into the hall and marching to find the innkeeper.Â
Bielrin caught Lockâs key midair, and grinned at him. âYou sure? Thanks! Heh, this might take a few trips, but Iâve got a feeling this place will be cozy before weâre done. Be back soon!â
With that, the bosmer slipped out of the room, intending to acquire food before he went to Lockâs room. Quieting Toiqâs stomach was his immediate concern- bedding would come after that. Bielrin was so focused on his mission that he failed to pay proper attention to his surroundings. When he should have ducked around the person in the hallway with ease, he collided with the poor soul instead.
As Biel leaves, Lock scoots himself over to where Toiq lay on the floor, peering down at the giant.
âHey,â He starts quietly, putting a hand on Toiqâs bony shoulder, rubbing his thumb over the intricate scarification. âYouâre gonna be alright, alright? You got a buddy who was willing to break into a mine full of criminals to get you. You donât come across friends like that all that often. Youâre gonna get out of the city okay, weâll both see to it.â
Though he supposed Toiq could have done something actually worthy of incarceration, it was still unusually cruel to keep a giant cooped up in a place as cramped as a mine. It made Lock ill to even think about it. The poor man had clearly been punished enough.
He had gotten out of the mines. âYouâre probably right.â Bielrin shrugged. In the excitement, heâd forgotten what time it was. The apothecary would be closed by now, and the temples would only have maybe one or two priests about at this time of the night, and none of them healers.Â
âFood it is!â He beamed. Bielrin was about to continue the thought, when Toiq mentioned his plan to get more furs. The Bosmer choked on his words, giving a sort of coughing laugh. String weapon? âU-uh.. yes! Eheheheh, Iâll see what I can do!â
ââS gotta be lucky! What else could it be?â Bielrin returned Toiqâs grin. âIâm gonna go see what kind of food this place has. Lock, do you want anything, too?â He might as well offer. With how big Toiq was, it was pretty much a guarantee already that the bill would be high.Â
âNah.â Lock reaches into his pocket and tosses Biel the key to his own room. âI stocked up when I got here. Take what you want.â The meat heâd planned to eat tonight would still be fresh, plus he had the preserves Roxy had sent him off with. He sits himself on the floor, curling his tail around his legs. He was still a bit chilled. âWhy donât you get the blankets from my place, too? Your friend here isnât going to fit on the bed, but the floorâs probably just as comfortable.â Stone beds, honestly. They didnât have to preserve every ridiculous thing the Dwemer did.
Toiq stared at the floor for a while, feeling a bit ashamed after everything that had happened. His life had taken a rather nasty turn in the past few months. Now here he was with his back a wreck and his friends running around frantically doing things he should be doing for him self on his own. Out in the plains. With his mammoth.Â
The thought twisted his his stomach like a sickness and his body slumped forward, his head nearly in his lap.Â
"Thank you," he mumbled suddenly to the naga, "I cannot do much for what you have done for me." The giant craned his neck, his back cracking quietly in several places. "You are both in danger because of this. But I am glad you both found me."
His massive frame slid to the floor and he laid on his back. One of his arms strewn over his eyes and he took several deep breaths to try to ease the pain in his spine.Â
His stomach was not ceasing its growling.

âItâs not not okay..â Bielrin closed the door, and stripped while he spoke, quickly stepping into a dry pair of pants. Modesty was something heâd done away with a long time ago, for convenience sake. He shot a glance at Lock, whoâd joined them in the room. Bielrin was used to Toiq not understanding the more carnal side of life, but Lock wasnât. Would he comment on it?
âNot a lot of people bring others into their rooms without a good reason, is all.â He shrugged on a loose shirt for good measure, then turned to Toiq with his hands on his hips.
âNow. Food, sleep, or medicine first?â Bielrin asked brightly, determined to look on the bright side of things. Toiq was still in obvious pain, and itâd take a while for him to get back to how heâd been, but he was out of the mines!
Lock modestly glances away as Biel changes. Heâd deal with his own wet clothing when he got back to his own room. âWhat he said. Some people are just prudish and donât necessarily want to think about what you might be doing with that person. Even if you donât intend to do anything at all.â Of course, growing up among Nagas, even Dunmer were comparably prudish, so maybe his view of it was a little skewed.
âFood would be easiest to get. The apothecaryâs going to be closed at this hour. You can keep the coat for now, by the way. I donât think we have anything else we can dress you in.â
"Food is good," Toiq stated quickly, his head picking up and his ears twitching anxiously at the suggestion. Biel's mood quickly washed over to him and he found himself smiling, even through the aching muscles, scrapes, and bruises. He was grateful, though he was unsure how to show it.Â
It didn't take him long to yank the damp longcoat off his shoulders along with the shirt that he had been forced to wear in the mines. He tossed that away, no intention of picking it back up. He was still massive and generated enough body heat to keep himself comfortable, even without a shirt on. "I am okay with this cloth," he ran his hand across the tattered pants, "until I can get back out and gather furs to make something for myself. Maybe Biel can help me with his string weapon."
His entire figure leaned forward and his hands fiddled with an object tied to his ankle. He pulled it off and leaned back up, bringing the dirty string up to his face. The tiny piece of still bio-luminescent wood still managed to glow, even after all this time.
"I kept this with me," he turned to his old friend, showing him the dirty twig. "Maybe it is a lucky thing, you think?" He grinned sheepishly brushing his bangs out of his face, his stomach letting out a long groan.
Rafters
âYou might not have to. If they catch us, I could just imply that weâll be sharing a bed. Iâm a Bosmer, Iâm Dibellan. Iâm even a Bard. Thereâs no reason the innkeepers shouldnât believe me.â Bielrin swiped wet hair out of his face, and began to make his way towards dry land. âEven if Iâm half as big as he is. Iâve got a reputation.â
âIâm serious. I want to pay you back, somehow.â He grinned. âIâll find a way.â
âYeah, I know.â Bielrin turned his smile on Toiq. âLetâs get you to the inn, hey?â He hauled himself up out of the water and shook a bit like a dog to get the excess off. âThis way!â
âAlright. If you think theyâll buy it.â Dibellans, he knew, could get away with quite a lot just by claiming they intended to sleep with a person. For better or for worse.
Luckily, the cover of darkness keeps them hidden as they sneak back to the inn. Lock sticks his nose inside the door, peering around. It was nearly empty, and the few patrons plus the bartender looked either sleepy or preoccupied with the drinks they were nursing. âLetâs go. Quickly.â He darts inside.
Toiq was no fond of towns or cities; the small-kind feared that which they did not understand. And very rarely did one stop to get to know him. Fear yielded violence, and violence was not something the Giant was fond of. He avoided them as best as he could; an impossible task when you are forced to share a home with them.
They entered a biuilding, Toiq managed to do so without much of a hassle seeing as his back was arched forward painfully enough to fit through the door properly. They moved quickly, Toiq did not stop to ask questions. Simply following orders as he had done so for so long.
Upon entering the room, Toiq stood up a little stretching his abused muscles and sat back down on a bed. The wood that held the mattress whined under the weight. He leaned back against the wall and let out a heavy sigh, mumbling in Giantish.Â
"I do not understand why sleeping in the same bed with another is not okay here... Why do you need to tell them something like that..."

âYeah, I found him! Really close to the tunnel, actually, praise Dibella.â Bielrin grimaced again when he had to move out to the deeper water outside of the grate, and went to cling to the wall again. âIâm staying at the inn. Do you think we can get him in there?âÂ
âRight, introductions. Lock, this is Toiq! Toiq, this is Lock. I owe you a lot for helping me to find him, you know.â He directed this last sentence towards the Naga. âIâm serious about that. I donât want to think about what wouldâve happened if he stayed there for much longer.â
ââŚI can start a tab at the inn for food, too, once I get changed. Do you think you can walk a little farther, buddy?â
Lock exhales through his nostrils, glancing to the side. âI can try. If you move him fast enough they might even mistake him for me. Failing that, I can pay the owners to look the other way.â There would go his own food fund for the next few days, but it was a sacrifice worth making. He could go a couple days without eating. The giant looked like he was going to keel over. He waves his hand dismissively at Bielâs thanks. âDonât worry about it. Making sure your friend here is safe will be thanks enough.â
Toiq grinned sincerely, albeit weakly at the naga. "It is very nice to meet you, Lock." Slowly but surely the giant patted his chest. "I am Toiq, but right now I do not have a home, heh..."
He turned back to Biel and nodded, "I will go as far as you take me. It will take more than this to bring down a Large-kind, you know that." He flashed a smile at his old friend, behind uneven bangs covering his eyes. Gods he needed a haircut.
He followed Biel quickly, stumbling several times. His stomach growling at the mention of food.Â

âMaybeâŚâ Bielrin backed into the tunnel when Toiq crawled forward. âYou should just be able to fit.â
âThis way!â With that, Bielrin turned around and began heading back down the tunnel, towards the grate. Was Lock still there? He might not be, Bielrin had no way of telling how long heâd been inside the tunnel before finding Toiq.Â
Eventually Bielrin stepped in water again, and he turned around briefly to warn Toiq, âWater ahead.â There was no telling how long they waded through the water, but after a while, Biel saw light. âWeâre close now, itâs right up ahead!â He could just make out the grate, if he squinted. Bielrin sped up. He wanted to get out of here!
Lock keeps still at the entrance, ears straining to catch any sign of struggle. Occasionally the patrols pass by and he has to duck underwater until they leave. Itâs almost enjoyable. He canât remember the last time he got to swim.
Eventually he hears sloshing echo up the corridor, hurried but not the sort of hurry heâd expect from someone racing to find an intruder. âBiel? You find him?â He squints into the darkness at Bielâs companion. âStendarrâs arse, you werenât kidding about him being a giant. You alright, pal?â The big guy looked awful, all gaunt and pallid and filthy. Lock grimaces and pulls his longcoat off, offering it to Toiq. It was damp but it would warm him better than those rags would. âYou got a place to stay, Bard?â
When his hand hit the water, the Giant backed up a bit. His muscles locked up and he let out a whine, but continued forward. On his hands and knees, the water came up high enough to make him anxious, but the thought of getting outside outweighed it.Â
There was something at the exit... Light for one, that was enough to hurry Toiq along, but he didn't expect what he exited to. Some huge creature almost his own height speaking in common tongue. Toiq stood. He had never once seen anything like it. He knew not what to expect, but to say the least, the creature's hospitality was comforting. He took offering and weakly wrapped the longcoat over his shoulders with a shudder.Â
"I think you are Biel's friends..? Thank you," he mumbled, hunching forward with a deep breath. "I am grateful to you both." For a long moment, the half-mer sat completely still, only shivering now and again before his stomach let out an audible groan. He was too exhausted to notice his own hunger and ached for rest.
"Now what..?"
