I forgot how to breath
Itâs okay if you count on your fingers, if you continually change how you look, if youâre passionate about something you arenât good at, if youâre confused about your identity, if you score low on tests often. Itâs okay if you have an irregular skin tone, moles, frizzy hair, unevenly clipped nails, crooked teeth, acne, eczema. Youâre enough, and youâre deserving of love.
Intersex Awareness Day
What is intersex?
âThe term intersex is an umbrella term that refers to people who have one or more of a range of variations in sex characteristics that fall outside of traditional conceptions of male or female bodies. For example, intersex people may have variations in their chromosomes, genitals, or internal organs like testes or ovaries. Some intersex characteristics are identified at birth, while other people may not discover they have intersex traits until puberty or later in life. â -InterACT
This includes both primary and secondary sex characteristics such as hormones, genitalia, and chromosomes that fall outside of what is typically considered âmaleâ or âfemale.â
Examples of intersex conditions include CAH (Congenital adrenal hyperplasia), AIS (androgen insensitivity syndrome), Klinfelter Syndrome, and PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)
Are intersex people trans?
Some intersex people are trans, and some arenât. Most intersex people are still assigned a gender at birth, and many intersex people who are raised as one gender and then later identify as another gender identify with the label trans. Intersex people can be cis or trans just like any other group of people.
Many intersex people have complicated relationships with gender, and donât feel like labels like cis or trans really fit their experiences. For this reason, terms like intergender and ipsogender were coined.
Transphobia and intersexism (prejudice against intersex people) often have a lot of overlap as well.Â
What is intersex activism?Â
Intersex activism is currently focused mainly on ending unconsenusal surgery at birth on intersex children, and guaranteeing the rights for bodily autonomy for intersex people. Nonconsensual genital mutilation is regularly performed on intersex babies to forcibly assign us a gender at birth. Intersex activists like Pidgeon Pagonis, Sean Saifa Wall, and groups like InterAct are working to get hospitals to end intersex surgery. So far only two hospitals nationwide have come out against intersex surgery, and intersex activism really needs more widespread support. We deserve to live life free from human rights abuses and be able to take agency over what happens to our body and what medical choices we want to make. Â
What can you do to support intersex people?
Educate yourself! Check out our resources page for a list of links to intersex organizations and information.Â
Support and build solidarity with the intersex community and activists. We really need allies to boost our voices!
Listen and learn from us, and call out intersexism when you see it.Â
Celebrate intersex people! Intersex is BEAUTIFUL and we are allowed to be proud!Â
Happy intersex awareness day!!!

to everyone whoâs questioning their gender and/or sexuality rn, as someone whoâs got it (mostly) figured out, one thing i want to say to you isâyou do not immediately have to find a label that fits you.Â
let yourself live. let yourself love, or if you donât love, donât! let yourself feel attraction, romantic or sexual, or let yourself notice the lack of those things. let yourself find people attractive without hastening to stick a label in what youâre feeling, let yourself breathe before putting yourself in a box.
let yourself live. let yourself experience masculinity or femininity or both or neither, let yourself feel what gender you are. let yourself notice a gendered feeling or a lack of one, let yourself notice and live and laugh and go through your day, notice if your gender is fluid or fluctuates or if it doesnât, if itâs there or if itâs male and female or something else entirely.
iâm not saying that you shouldnât use labels, of courseâif you find a label you think fits you, an umbrella term or a micro label, go for it, use it for yourself! if you find something that fits you, thatâs awesome, and iâm so happy for you!
iâm not against labels, i just felt the need to say that you do not have to rush to label yourself. let yourself experience gender/sexuality and if you donât immediately have a label, thatâs fine, and if you think youâre never going to label it, thatâs awesome!
itâs okay to not have a label. its okay to have a hard time finding a label. itâs okay to use umbrella terms. itâs okay to not know what you are, and not label yourself.Â
you are 100% valid and a part of the LGBTQ+ community even if youâre not sure of the specifics of your identity. this community is yours, and your experiences and identities are an important part of it.
I needed this.
Thank you to all the people who posted this so I ended up seeing it. I really needed this right now. Thank you!
Yeah⌠Not gonna lie⌠I criedâŚ
We need more people like this
Goddamn it stop making me feel human
The therapist I wanna be.
Text in the image:
âIâm a therapist and keep this poster in my waiting room, apparently itâs saved a few lives.â
I donât like the phrase âa cry for help.â I just donât like how it sounds. When somebody says to me, âIâm thinking about suicide. I have a plan: I just need a reason not to do it,â the last thing I see is helplessness.
I think your depression has been beating you up for years. Itâs called you ugly, and stupid, and pathetic, and a failure, for so long that youâve forgotten that itâs wrong. You donât see any good in yourself, and you donât have any hope.
But still here you are: youâve come over to me, banged on my door and said, âHEY! Staying alive is REALLY HARD right now! Just give me something to fight with! I donât care if itâs a stick! Give me a stick and I can stay alive!â
How is that helpless? I think thatâs incredible. Youâre like a marine: trapped for years behind enemy lines. Your gun has been taken away, youâre out of ammo, youâre malnourished, and youâve probably caught some kind of jungle virus thatâs making you hallucinate giant spiders.
And youâre still just going, âGIVE ME A STICK. IâM NOT DYING OUT HERE.â âA cry for helpâ makes it sound like Iâm supposed to take pity on you, but you donât need my pity. This isnât pathetic. This is the will to survive. This is how humans lived long enough to become the dominant species.
With NO hope, running on NOTHING, youâre ready to cut through a hundred miles of hostile jungle with nothing but a stick, if thatâs what it takes to get to safety.
All Iâm doing is handing out sticks.
Youâre the one saying alive.
I legit cried at this. Iâve needed to hear it put this way. Bless this post.
Every time I see this post I stop to read the whole image. It always helps â even on the good days.
Because it wasnât weakness. It wasnât shameful to seek help. It wasnât pathetic to âcry for helpâ. I was looking for a stick, be that from myself or from someone else. I was trying to find a way out. I was trying to heal myself.
this is fuckin incredible.Â
Iâm sorry if I repost to many of these, but if it could be someoneâs âstickâ then itâs worth it
For anyone that needs to read this today.Â
-FemaleWarrior, She/TheyÂ
They also have this one and I think quite a few others but these two I keep on my phone and pull up on my bad days.
Text in the second image:
âWhy are you so lazy?â
But youâre not lazy. Lazy is when you shrug things off because you canât summon up the give-a-damn. When youâre curled up tight on your chair, at your desk, alone and grey and desperately wishing that you had your life in order, that you did all those things that you had to do, that it didnât feel like breaking rocks just to feed and clothe yourself and get some sleep, thatâs not lazy.
People donât understand. You tell them âItâs Hard.â They tell you, âNo it isnât. Youâre just lazy.â
You start to wonder if theyâre right. Is breaking those rocks easy for everyone else? Are they that much stronger than you? They donât look like theyâre struggling. âJust try harder,â they say. But youâre trying. Itâs not working. Breaking boulders in your path until youâre spent isnât lazy, and you do it day after day.
Youâre not lazy. Most people donât have those rocks to break. They donât even know what itâs like to have to break rocks to get things done. They donât understand how hard you have to work, and how hopeless you feel, when you try and fail to do what they do easily. Things hard harder for you, they really are. And if those people had to deal with your problems they wouldnât be doing any better.
Youâre not lazy. Youâre not weak. Youâre fighting hard. I guess I just want you to know that I know that.â

Second image made me tear up.
Thereâs a third one as well. Iâve had it as my phone lock screen for years now.
Text in third image:Â
I know things are hard right now.Â
Youâre going to be okay, but it might take a while. It might be scary, and you might want to give up.Â
Donât give up. You can do this. Things wonât be this way forever.Â
One day, youâre going to be so proud of yourself.Â
End image textÂ
Please remember that you're whole and enough just the way you are. You don't need changing. No one can assure you that things would be better if you were different. You're amazing because you are you. ALL OF YOU đĽş
