materializes on the dash. and if i said rema is more associated with birds like doves rather than things more commonly associated with death, like corvids and vultures and the like …. doves symbolizing that despite the nature of how she grew up, despite how she operates, ect ect …. there’s an innocence and purity in her soul that will always be there no matter what ? what then ?
so honestly rema hasn’t eaten a single person since her crucible first awoke in her childhood, but every so often she gets some pretty violent cannibalistic urges and like. i think she handles it way better than she has in the past, because there have certainly been times where she’s trying to work at night and suddenly she’s having to hide away in an alley while she drools uncontrollably and argues with said crucible with their mental link. nowadays she satiates her cravings with steak cooked rare, or by biting into her hand since. well. any damage she does to herself will just heal right away. :’)

okay so i THINK. the move i’m going to take with rema, is split her story into two separate routes, a good ending and a bad ending, because as much as i love to make her suffer …. i had a change of heart and want her to be happy sometimes too. 🥲 i have some vague ideas for a good ending, nothing super concrete like her bad ending …. stay tuned hmmm.
sittin’ here thinking about how a lot of characters who are in the ‘ doomed by the narrative ‘ category almost always have abilities/powers they’re praised for …. and then i realized while rema is included in that group, instead her abilities are something that she is instead demonized for. :’) and thus have created a sense of dehumanization ( from both herself and from others ) that she will very likely live with for the rest of her life. this is fine.
i have been thinking ….. of rare situations where the veil between rema and her seal becoming incredibly thin to where the crucible bound to her soul is able to gain a small semblance of control ….. turning her into something beastly, something unchained and wild that threatens to destroy both rema and whoever she’s up against. yea, yea.
sometimes i sit here minding my own business and then i suddenly remember that rema likely will not make over 40 in her canon story. 🤪 if she does it would be a miracle, considering the intensity of the crucible attached to her soul is just that heavy. their energies will likely merge together and whether it be by her own hand or by another member of the accord, she will die. and also because she isn’t able to have children ( nor does she ever want them LOL ), this also means this cursed lineage will finally end with her.

" she can feel hungry eyes upon her flesh, almost as if every breath rema takes is met with a honed gaze peering deep beyond the surface of flesh and into the sinew of which her heart rests. red, warm blood pumping through veins, perhaps enticing the vampiric creature before her akin to a starved beast with fleshy meat. rema would be painted a liar if she were to say it wasn't amusing. a smirk tugs at lips, and slowly does she pull her sleeve up her arm and dig nails into the skin so cursed ichor may momentarily spill. a cruel taunt, perhaps a challenge ? " can't say i would be any good, though. may be a bit spoiled. "
his words summon a groan to bubble forth from throat's depths, slight marring of her features as brows furrow and lips curve downwards. there's an unfortunate truth held in what dante speaks so silken into the hunter's ear; it is marked by the dark circles under her eyes, in the fatigue that coils around rema's frame serpentine to where she could very well collapse at any given moment ... and yet she does not. somehow. whether it be through stubbornness or something else only known to her. whatever it is, however, seems to melt away the further he pulls her to his embrace. a welcomed warmth, a much needed solace from the horrors lurking around every corner.

" she murmurs while crown of pink-tinged alabaster gossamer nuzzles further into his chest, honing in and listening to every ba-thump, ba-thump his heart makes akin to a sweetly hummed lullaby calling her name. THE SERAPHIC ACCORD is a religious organization and branch of the catholic church whose sole purpose is the elimination of violent demonic possession. members of the accord are, while elusive to even to the rest of the church, high ranking exorcists and monster hunters with one purpose: maintain public safety, draw out the creatures of damnation who threaten the very threads of humanity.
now with that said, i'm going to go into exact details and what constitutes someone from the accord, in this case rema, being summoned out, because when people think ' demonic possession ', it's safe to assume they think of phenomenon in media such as ' the conjuring ' or even ' the exorcist '. which is not to say these are inaccurate portrayals for this universe, because they do exist and are filed under ' typical happenings ' where a standard priest ( standard aka unaffiliated with the accord ) will come out and preform a major rite of exorcism. however when i say the accord handles extreme, violent cases, it is something far beyond the jurisdiction of a common priest; these cases defy the standard thinking of the public and are to be handled with extreme caution.
members of the seraphic accord are brought onto instances where the afflicted individuals have been identified by the seers of the church and are deemed both dangers and threats to the general public by said seers ( seers: church informants more or less. their job is to blend in with civilians and gather/relay information back to the church. ) these specific types of possessions and the demons that surround them, are referred to as ' full soul embodiments ' carried out by the ' crucible ', or the ' marked ones '. while their origins have been lost to time due to the destruction of ancient records, modern gathering has come to the conclusion that their primary ability is to infect and possess any creature of the flesh, including the already deceased, though those specific cases are incredibly rare and their infection window has to be within 2 hours of death for the body to still be considered fresh. crucible are demons who are parasitic in nature, and the onset of symptoms happens quickly over the course of a week or less depending on the infected's health or age.
early stages manifest with symptoms commonly found in pica disorder. ( a compulsive craving for non-food objects. ) as the human body begins to slowly shut down, the victim will begin to crave things such as dirt and wood, leaves and grass, and even more extreme things like pebbles or glass. they become hydrophobic and incredibly nauseated for reasons most medical professionals cannot explain. this is to slowly break down the host and its soul, and the host will inevitably grow increasingly violent when transitioning into later stages of infection. all of the above mentioned leads to the final stage, known as soul death, in which the host's soul effectively dies and the crucible can replace the body's essence with their own. it should be noted that there is absolutely no coming back from soul death, and the only means of salvation come from exorcising the infected souls with holy weaponry. in rema's case, her scythe and decapitation. these weapons sever the the ties of the crucible spirit from the inflicted host's flesh.
now, crucible's exist the same way ghosts do. they're always there in some kind of way, but the severity depends on how much residual energy they have consumed and thus how powerful their overall parasitic abilities may be. they can cling to humans with darker auras ( criminals, delinquents, ect ect ) and lay dormant in the soul if they're weaker, which gives them time to grow and become more capable. in more extreme cases, so if someone is already thoroughly infected and hasn't had the appropriate measures taken to be restrained while waiting for a member of the accord, they can spread the infection through bites/scratches/saliva into open wounds/ ect ect. when the body is exorcised, the remains have to then be burned as a precautionary measure, and it's not always guaranteed that you'll get those ashes back afterwards. this ensures that any lingering cursed energy is completely purged and gives it no chance to rebuild itself from residual energy.
as an appointed general of the accord, rema is an extremely capable individual in this line of work and she has yet to come across a case she hasn't been able to handle. so rest assured, that your loved one's soul is in good hands and may receive an honorable death in the end.
expanding on a previous meta, which you can find here, i want to talk about the levels of severity and advancements of the demons rema and other members of the seraphic accord hunt, fight, and ultimately exorcise. the crucibles. currently, there are four known stages known to the crucible infection. and much of the current knowledge surrounding them is fairly modern, as much older testaments and records have been lost and effectively destroyed over the centuries.
reminder note: crucibles are a type of parasitic demon who infect humans and slowly chip away at their soul until there's nothing left but an empty husk for the crucible to then inhabit. catching the infection early is incredibly vital, and the only way to stop it is death by holy weapon and cremation. there is absolutely no going back once a crucible has possessed a human.
STAGE ONE, the incubation. the very start of infection, beginning in the first twenty-four hours of initially contracting the crucible demon's energy. within the first hours, the victim will experience physical symptoms that mimic a common illness, so something along the lines of the common cold or the flu. bodily aches, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, ect. now while it's not common, it is possible for some individuals to be asymptomatic and not show nor express any sort of sign of the infection, which further aids in the incubation period and makes a crucible lead more difficult for a seer to pin-point and identify. it should be noted that asymptomatic cases typically yield a weaker crucible as a result, but still nothing that should be taken lightly regardless. the first twenty-four hours are simply so the crucible may take firm root into the soul. incubation lasts roughly a week. if caught exceptionally early, they may be brought into the church and be exorcised by a seraphic priest and recover. if.
STAGE TWO, the larva. if an asymptomatic person hasn't shown clear signs of the crucible possession within those first twenty-four hours, or haven't taken the advice of a seer and seek out the church, they most certainly will with stage two. the possession starts to fully run its course and the host body's soul slowly, violently breaks down until there's nothing left to even call human. exhibits signs of pica, where they crave non-food objects and always results in some sort of major bodily injury, such as from ingesting shards of glass, dirt, rocks, anything. they will also seek out water despite being hydrophobic, and become increasingly more violent as the body shuts down and the crucible's force festers. this is the stage exorcists of the seraphic accord are called out upon, and preferably before deaths or further spread ( ie: being scratched, bitten, spat on, ect by an infected person ) of the demonic essence. once the accord has been alerted and is confirmed to visit, it is highly advised that the afflicted person be heavily restrained until an exorcist arrives. anyone inflicted must be quarantined and treated at the church immediately. no ifs, no buts.
STAGE THREE, the pupa. in the event that a stage two crucible manages to evade exorcism, whether by escaping and fleeing, or by having their remains mishandled, pupas are rare but certainly not unheard of. once a full soul embodiment as taken place and the crucible has entirely cemented its place in the host body, they go into hiding as the body starts to ' recover ' from the initial infection so it may better preform its tasks. think of when an insect or a crab molts its shell and what's new is incredibly soft and squishy and they hide out until the new shell strengthens. pupas are dangerous, and require caution when being dealt with, but they prefer preservation of their new body at all costs and will most likely run than fight. they're considered to be glass cannons. they can still infect humans, but while they're learning their new body's functions, they lay low and feed on anyone who strays too close.
STAGE FOUR, final metamorphosis. queens. the final and most dangerous stage in the crucible infection. ( note: the term ' queen ' is not gendered, and is simply used to refer to a long standing stage four who infects multiple humans at once. ) if a crucible has somehow managed to survive all the stages mentioned above, and evades holy exorcism, they make it to the strongest stage currently known to the church. stage four crucibles are in a league of their own, and almost always require multiple members of the accord plus a general to defeat. they blend in perfectly with human society, and their primary goals are to infect as many people as possible, as well as safeguarding these individuals so that they may grow unharmed and away from outside interference. there's always something uncanny about a stage four: the way they talk, the monotone pitch in their voices, the way they carry themselves more like objects than people. ( ie: unsteady balance, stiff movements, ect. ) they are bodies that have been infected for years at this point, so they've had time to observe society and know when to stay hidden when an exorcist may be onto both them and the location of their safeguard den. they're also capable of physically manipulating their body and taking forms only few exorcists have lived to see and report back upon.

i've been re-watching some of the horror movies that inspired the demons in rema's story while i finish up all the details for coming off hiatus, primarily the evil dead movies and the thing from 1982 and man .... nasty parasitic creatures really are just underrated imo. good job, past lee.
