Rewarding yourself for a job well done is awesome. Study rewards can range anywhere from a fresh-baked brownie to a trip to the movies. Rewarding yourself also has great affects on your study ethic and mentality: ● GIVES US MOTIVATION Setting a reward for a task means your more likely to complete the task on time. But you should not sacrifice quality in the process. Only reward a job well done and you will gain motivation. ● MAKES YOU FEEL GREAT A great essay as well as a new book can make us feel great. Rewarding great work makes us feel good about ourselves and our work ethic. Which means we are more likely to want to do a great job each time. ●INCREASES PRODUCTIVITY A reward is also an incentive. It offers an incentive-based reward in exchange for hard work and a job well done. When we feel that we are rewarded and appreciated for the work we do we are more likely to be productive and not waste time. Remember, incentives need to relate to the workload. You cannot give a large reward for a small task. Study is not meant to be easy, but it can be something to enjoy.
Many people tell you not to listen to music while studying. In actuality its only lyrical that has a negative effect on studying. Listen to instrumental or classic music can help in many ways: ● REDUCES ANXIETY Listening to classical music or any music helps reduce anxiety levels as it gives something calming and rythmic as a background noise instead of crisp silence. Humans do not deal well with being quiet. Often while you're alone your mind runs wild replacing silence with often frightening and distracting sounds. ● HELPS CONCENTRATION Do you often find yourself unconsciously drifting towards thoughts of being in a fun situation while studying. To stop thos happening we can give our unconscious mind something to focus on, music. This helps our conscious mind focus on the task at hand, studying. ● CALMS YOU DOWN Music is something repetitious, rhythmically pleasing and calming. While some modern music may be loud and emotionally traumatizing, (sorry to fans, I personally prefer 80s music) classical music has a soothing and soft melody creating a calming atmosphere. Remember, do what feels right to you. Study with classical music feels right to me but might not be for you.
Water is essential to effective studying. Always keep a bottle of water next to you while studying and taking exams. Here are some reasons why: ● REDUCES ANXIETY Water is a essential to life. When we feel dehydrated it is seen a threat to our survival and can increase or anxiety. Drinking water during test season can help us feel more relaxed and reduce our anxiety levels. ● REDUCES FATIGUE Staying hydrated keeps us alert and stops us feeling fatigued during study sessions. Dehydration of the brain can make us feel tired and stops us working to our full potential. ● PREVENTS HEADACHES Dehydration can bring with it massive headaches and no one wants to work with a headache. Starting hydrated is a natural way tip reduce risk of headaches during long study sessions. Remember, always drink water and reduce the amount of sugary/caffeinated drinks you could opt for. Stay study smart guys!
Whether you cram the night before (I advise against) pr you study everyday, breaks are essential. Here's a couple of reasons why: ● REVIVES FOCUS When you study for more than an hour your brain starts to get tired and you loose focus. For every hour of study you should take 15-25 minute break. Stand up, shake your legs and arms, make yourself a cup of tea. After your study break your focus will be revived and you can get that work done! ● RELAXES YOU MIND Find that studying for a long time makes you stressed? Taking a break can alleviate that stress. Standing up out of that chair and walking around the house can help you get those stressful things things out of your head. ● RETAIN MORE Taking a break revives focus and helps you retain more. If you can focus well then you're going to retain more information then when your distracted by thoughts of sleep, breaks or food. Remember, taking breaks is essential to good study habits. It will help you raise your study efficiency and your grades. Persistently sticking to this tip help you raise your grades in the long run.
Whether you enjoy the visual styles of learning or even turning your note into a little song for you remember, always study your way and no one elses! Here are some reasons why: ● HELPS INCREASE GRADES If you know how you learn that you can retain information in a way that makes sense to you. This will in turn raise you grades and give an edge on people trying to learn in a way not suited to them. ● MAKES LEARNING FUN If you learn in your own way it makes more enjoyable and less frustrating. Meaning you will be likley to retain the concept and study more. ● YOU CAN LEARN MORE EFFICIENTLY Studying in a way that is catered to you means that you won't sit slaving at the computer for hours and not retain anything. Studying in your own way means that you will be more likely to remember facts come test day. Remember, studying shouldn't feel like a chore all the time. Switch it up, have fun and study in your own way. In time you will find studying a fun part of your day and your grades will rise. Study hard!

Eating breakfast is important! I know everyone says it but, it really is the truth! Here's some reason why: ● HELPS MAINTAIN WEIGHT AND WEIGHT LOSS Eating breakfast is shown to make you less hungry during the day and help you from over-snacking. Also eating breakfast will mean you have more chances to take in vital nutrients and minerals necessary for daily function. ● INCREASES CONCENTRATION You can't concentrate on classes or study when all you can think about is how hungry you are. If you eat a fulfilling breakfast in the morning you will feel full and will be able soak up new information without distraction. ● INCREASES HAPPINESS Ever feel cranky in the morning? Want a few extra winks? Try eating breakfast and you'll feel significantly better! Eating breakfast makes us feel happy and satiated, which means we will be more likely to work harder and for longer. Remember eating breakfast can give you the extra edge in the classroom and in life! But don't worry if the effects are obvious straight away. It takes time, just like everything. Be patient and you will enjoy the rewards. Happy studying!
Results don't just appear out of nowhere! Good grades take hars persistent work. Here are the top three ways to stay motivated: ● MAKE A STUDY SCHEDULE Stick your study schedule. Stick. To. It. Create a timetable stating what subject/test/assignment you need to finish/revise for, setting a time and date. Ex. French Basics [January20 1.00-2.30] ● REWARD HARD WORK You changed your grade for B+ to A-? Go you! You deserve a treat. Whether it be that new movie you've been dying to see or that ice-cream shop you haven't been to in forever. Giving yourself rewards means your more likely to work hard towards that next milestone. ● MAKE IT FUN Whether you enjoy adding colour and stickers to you notes or making them simple, aesthetically pleasing, you need to have fun. Put on some funky music (on a low volume) and make your notes/projects as pretty and creative as you want! Remember don't get disheartened if the results are obvious at first. Keep at it and you'll reap the rewards of your hard work! Keep studying guys!
