Footsteps shuffling forward, Raven made his way to a place that he hated, but he supposed it was about time he paid his due respects. Empty handed, he surveyed this place of resting, of mourning with a flat gaze. He shouldn’t be here. Or rather, he should have been buried years ago. It was a hard line of thinking to toss away.
The Don had meant a lot to the bird. Funny how that had happened. And now a dead man was paying respects to a man he couldn’t kill. That he’d thought no one could ever kill. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he’d believed that old man to be immortal. A rueful laugh escaped lips set in a grimace. Nothing was immortal.
There was a familiar sound coming from up ahead. Eyes finally lifted towards destination, Raven saw Harry. The young man appeared to be talking to himself. Or rather, he supposed, his memory of his grandfather. Halting, the archer considered turning back—it wasn’t his place to intrude. Not upon a moment like this. But why was Harry smiling…?
Caught in the act of turning to retreat, Raven gave a start as a shout was directed towards him. Couldn’t go back now.
"What’m I doin’ out ‘ere? Funny question, that. Came t’ see yer ol’ man, a course." The bird gave a shrug, hands spread wide. “Guess I jus’ got ‘ere late.”
There was a tinge of guilt there. For always leaving. The Don was almost something like family—and Harry too, he supposed. A rough hand reached up to ruffle blonde hair as if the young Whitehorse was still a child.
"How ya holdin’ up, kiddo?"
Harry didn't react at first, the smile from earlier gone as a mere soft 'huff' seemed to escape his nose. It felt like Raven was guilted into something, or perhaps he should say that's what it looked like. Huh, coming to see his grandfather, aye? "If yer gonna do it, then ya should do it an' not act like a slinkin' dog." It was a statement, a hand lifting and swatting at the other's wrist to get it out of blond hair.
He wasn't a little kid anymore. He wasn't that same happy-go-lucky kid, even if sometimes he wished he could go back to that time and keep playing with swords and fists, collecting bugs and just being ... well, a kid. But things weren't that simple; things were never that simple.
Continuing a slight wave of the hand, Whitehorse moved onward, feet tapping against the cold ground, "An' how am I holdin' up? I'm fine, ol' man. Somethin' gone wrong 'n that head'a yers t' get worried 'bout me?" The one who'd caused the incident. There was no reason to be worried. He was dealing with the consequences, especially with the old man, his only 'family' disappearing more than half the time.
He wasn't thought of then, so why now?
"HQ's as hectic as ever an' the top five ain't 'zactly bein' helpful with the trade 'n power." The relent, slight as it was to know 'how he was' in the all. Harry wasn't exactly keen on admitting to being in an awkward position, but he was. With the way everything was set up, he could have been considered emotionally unstable enough to pass on the power to someone else -preferably- someone who had more experience than he did.
There was a little catch to this though. No-one knew a Whitehorse strategy, strength and mind better than another Whitehorse. Being who he was, Harry himself was just as strong-willed and (honestly) could out-pass his grandfather's shadow, if not by size, by words and actions. Given a stepping stool, all he had to do was fill the shoes first.
Blue eyes turned, glancing backwards at the black-bird, "What about'cha, how's yer new life 'n Brave Vesperia doin' fer ya?"

Aries Be Like....
Of course he’d saunter in as if nothing was wrong with his third visit today. Can’t blame him, couldn’t possibly blame the messenger after all. “You got time? I got a letter from the boss—says you should read it right away.” Who knew Karol could be so formal with letters addressed to other guilds, whatever the case — Yuri was here and hand delivered it personally.
"Got time an' gotta have 't is two differen' things, Yuri." Boss meant Karol. What was it that was so important Karol needed him to do something right away? Dealing up with everyone was difficult work, ya'know! Oh and the whole 'three times the charm' definitely did not count here. This was ridiculous . . . Sighing, he pulled his knife free, running it across as a letter opener and took out the contents to read it carefully. "Now wai' right there- I'll get'cha a response fer yer boss a'for ya leave."
[ /merely raises an eyebrow at … whatever it is he’s looking at, at the moment. ]
"Like watchin' paint dry?" Said individual was leaning against a wall in headquarters. "You tha' person I was supposed t' meet fer negotiations?"
A Day Better Spent

You don't bug Harry Whitehorse.
You legitimately don't on a bad day unless you want a knife in your face and a glare from the other side of his desk. However, in this occasion, he supposed there would have to be some exception. That didn't mean he wouldn't be allowed to give that death-glare to the person who was standing in his doorway.
Pushing himself up slowly, he let his hands rest against the desk. "So, ye wan'ed t' get somethin' from me?"
It was the only reason anyone would visit Harry, after all. Most people didn't like visiting the guild leader unless they specifically knew him. Which, he supposed in a way the person in front of him did. So if he'd come to help lighten the boy's mood, he better speak quick. "Karol Capel. . ."
It makes you feel so small.
In such a big shadow.
It makes you feel insignificant.
With so much baggage.
So why do you [ smile ]?
For a place so cruel.
You're a much better man Than me.

"He's here 'gain?" The statement was met with a very disgruntled sigh and fingers threading around the neck of his violin and a soft plucking of strings as he leaned back against his desk. "Le' him in. If he's got guil' business, I gotta look 'nta it."
Grin's Defeat | Open
Sometimes, Harry hated himself. As he went to kneel besides his grandfather’s gravestone, he was reminded of just this. Kneeling turning into just flopping down, back shifting to rest against the man’s stone, head tilting, hair curling up lightly at the edge pressing back against the grave. A sigh slipping from lips, eyes heavy, mouth pressing together in a firm line. A broken laugh, “Ya did always say I was too sof’ hearted.” he supposed, anyway. He also supposed this would prove the statement true while he lamented silently in his own odd way of mourning.
“Won’er if yer havin’ fun with mum up there.” His laugh turned down into a soft chuckle, draining away until there wasn’t even a smile against those pale lips. “Tell ‘er ol’ Harry said hi, I coul’ never visit her grave ‘lone, ya’know.” And now, as he was, he was alone. Knees slowly pulled, arms wrapping around them, in silence, head not shifting into them as he just continued to blankly stare into the sky in silence.
No family, no anything.
Wait…he did have something. He had Altosk, his guild. It was indeed his now, wasn’t it? His grip around his legs loosened but didn’t let go. A sigh escaping his throat coming out. He needed to stop doing this to himself. He couldn’t be the person any longer who was so depressed doing nothing but being a horrible influence to the people around him or his guild. After all, he needed to take care of more people than just himself now.
He needed to get over his own depression, hold it back. Even if it was all just an act. Lifting his arms, letting his knees fall to the side, hands going to brush them off gently. And up he went, a pop to his back, neck cracking as he tilted it either way and stretched out his arms. “Aye, ye betta b’ payin’ close attention, ol’ man!” His hand lifted, feet beginning it’s movement forward, almost in a backward wave.
“I’m gonna turn this screw up ya loved too much ‘nta somethin’ amazing!” There was a grin, the one everyone knew, the one that he was best known for “Jus’ ya watch.” Now, wouldn’t this be a surprise for anyone who knew the brat. Knew his common speech, common talks and just how he reacted to situations. The flip of a switch in his mind and he had to keep smiling. Keep grinning. Keep doing things just to make sure that every one didn’t suspect a thing. Get them to make judgements on his actions and words so that everyone thought of him just like he wanted them to.
Now… wasn’t that something? Clouds of people all glaring at him, for multiple reasons. Some for Don’s death, some for off-handed comments, some for everything he’d ever done wrong, which included his paperwork and his violin playing even to some extent. Each one of those people, staring at him, daring him to do something else and there would just be a lazy yawn and a leaning back. Ignorant, brat, lazy, careless, hot-headed, screw-up. Each word, each bite and yet there was that smirk. That smile that people knew all too well and just made them more angry talk him down more.
But honestly, was that cocky grin all that real looking? Or maybe it was just Harry that was such a good actor.
“Oi!” There, blue eyes were there glaring at the person who now was in the spotlight. “What’re ye doin’ out ‘ere?!”
He stood there, arms crossed, leaning against the wall. The boy was rambling on and on in a way that sounded like he was rehearsing. He wondered how long it’d take Harry to realize that he was standing there, and heard the whole thing.
A grin crossed his face. Gone was the terrified youth. Gone was the happy little boy Harry once was. His little grandson was all grown up, and he’d missed it happen. He supposed watching someone’s head getting sliced off was enough to harden a soul. But it was endearing to see.
He burst out laughing as Harry finished up his speech. Strolling forward, he patted Harry on the back. Of course, a pat from The Don was probably enough to knock Harry forward, if not through the nearest wall.
"I have no intention of stealin’ yer role, boy. Ye earned it fair ‘n square. ‘Sides. With my death ‘n all, I’m rather retired. But just so ye know, if ye need advice or just an ear ta rant ta, I’m ‘ere fer ye."
Harry was staring at the supposed grave silently, not yet realizing the person behind him. After all, Don Whitehorse was dead. He had rehearsed this so many times over in the mirror, to himself, had to play his violin so often just to get the courage to even bring up such a topic, however . . .
The pat on his back certainly gave Harry a jolt.
The look must have been priceless. He'd stumbled lightly forward, having not expected the sudden force but, he was a whitehorse so he stood steady on his feet even after such a shove. His head snapping behind at the voice he knew all too well. "P-Pappy?!"
Well there went the boy's courage from earlier. He'd thought he'd finally get to say those words but here he was staring at the man alive again and that certainly made things a whole lot more difficult. He'd heard rumors, of course he had! It was a bit difficult to miss his grandfather walking around the streets--
. . .wait a minute. His cheeks flushed red and his hands cupped over his mouth. He'd just called his grandfather Pappy.
He hadn't called the man that in near over ten years.
"Gods b' damned," he shifted, pulling his hand up over his hair, "I didn' think . . . th' rumors. . .actually true."
"Ye wanna know th' truth?"
"I don't despise ya, nah. . .It's not that anymore. I can't hate'cha, there's no reason fer it."
"Yer jus' too perfect, ya'know?"
"I can't stand anywhere else but'cher shadow, an' nomatter how I try. . . ya'll ne'er respond."
"I know 'm called a brat fer thinkin' like this. I know ya would call me a spineless leader. Bu' the truth is . . . noma'er how close we were. Noma'er how close ye wanna be with me 'gain."
"This is my guild now. I ain't lettin' ya mess it up and I ain't lettin' ya have yer way here 'gain gramps. Nomatter how many times ya die 'r how many times ya come back. It's my blessin' and curse so go get'cher own."
