You have a minimum of thirteen entire years, eight hours a day, five days a week to teach children what they need to know for adulthood. Why does every young adult I talk to feel completely lost when they get out the other end?

School ignores all aspects of life young adults will have to face in favour of teaching you maths and sciences almost all of you will forget due to disuse. School still lives in an age where your mother stays at home and teaches you everything you need to know—but your mother can’t afford to stay at home, and she’s to tired after work to give you a supplementary education.

I love science, I love math! Yet, it is humiliating that we think Algebra 2 is a necessary class, and Cooking, or Cleaning, or Conversation, is not.

Why do ‘normal’ people not enjoy things which are appealing, and colourful, and fun?

Well, because liking those things is a bit strange. It’s childish. You were meant to grow out of it.

But if you are already strange, there isn’t much of a drawback, is there? Not as much of a fear of being earnest when you’ve already been rejected? Might as well collect plushies and draw hot werewolves, right?

I think these things do have broad appeal. I think it’s less about something in our brains that draws us to them, and more about other people being taught to reject them.

There is a lot of debate about if or not this really depicts Susie, the biggest point of contention being the presence of a sword instead of an Axe. Though I enjoy the theories that perhaps Susie is not The Girl, I have a different interpretation to put forward. Not sure if anyone else has pointed this out.
