Really sorry if this has already been asked, I couldn't find it anywhere. You said Veronica Mars was one of the inspirations for TC, what were the others? Love your work, can't wait to play the game!
Besides Veronica Mars, I also happened to watch Jessica Jones and Stumptown around that time, which cemented my desire to write about a jaded private eye MC just trying their best, dealing with events from their past that haunt them.
The MC is at an all time low when we meet them, which I think most of us can relate to--especially now. I wanted to write about them healing and finding their place in the world, as well as opening up to others and learning that asking for help doesnât make them weak. Most of that revolves around the romance, just so I can keep the scope of the game manageable, but they form friendships as well in each route.Â
Of course, Twin Peaks served as an inspiration too. (Itâs one of my favorite TV shows.) Thereâs a few references I snuck in there lol. It mostly served as an inspiration for the setting.Â
And Iâve always loved murder mysteries and thrillers.Â
But I wanted to bring some paranormal into it. And romance. Thereâs no direct inspiration for those elements, other than the many, many paranormal romances I read on Kindle Unlimited during quarantine lol. But Iâve always liked monsters. I read Twilight as a tween, watched True Blood as a teen, and now I read any halfway decent paranormal romance I can find. So, I wanted to write about some of my favorite supernatural creatures, but put my own spin on them when I could. Thereâs a lot of tropes in PR Iâm not a fan of and I wanted to do them better or subvert them entirely.Â
And mysteries can get a whole lot crazier if thereâs paranormal elements involved.Â
Fairytales and folklore, especially Celtic, are also a huge inspiration. The fae are inspired mostly by Irish or Scottish folklore. And Iâve always loved fairytales and retellings of them. I wrote my senior thesis on fairytales, so Iâve done just so much research on them lol. Some of you may be able to notice the fairytale inspirations for many of the plotlines in the game.Â
A Tale of Crowns, Chapter Six; preview for X
Iâll be revealing the poly routes soon đ
I wonder if any of you can guess right before then đ§
AETERNĹ is an anti-romance collection about the consequential aftermath of loving someone without the fear of death. Your love interests are not romantic heroes, not every one of them will help you carry the story to the happy endings.Â
The release for Aeterno will be episodic and each episode a complete, standalone story of their own.Â
â â ne quidem mors nos separabit. â
I. US AFTER THE END (WORK-IN-PROGRESS)
Year unknown, the world is now an eternal winter landscape where snow stretches on for miles no matter where you are. Much of the population have diminished after the previous events leading up to the final winter. Youâre among the last of the surviving humans, and now youâre going to meet your ending.
However, the hand of fate has another plan for you, a stranger met in the wasteland offered his help and pulled you to safety when you were at the brink of death. Yet, peace only lasted for so long before you were once again confirmed to be correct when you refused to take the situation at faceâs value.
The past calls for you, even after the entire world around you turned into a pale imitation of what it once was.
II. BEAUTIFUL AND DAMNED (WORK-IN-PROGRESS)
Nothing is permanent, not even death. After a tragic assassination cut your life short, everyone believed you were gone for good. You would have too, had you not woken to see the light again years later, aged not a day past your own death.
It was abominable, unnatural. After confronting the person whoâd had a hand in your resurrection, you were met only with a cryptic answer; a vague promise of an explanation which left you with more anxiety than relief and that person being the love of your life, Isaac, did nothing to assuage your unease.
At the back of your mind, you knew you had to accept the truth: more than two decades had passed since your death, and things had changed. Your friends and family had long moved on. What you didnât know was whether it was for better or for worse.

Ok, so thereâs only one bed, but MC tells the ROs: âI will take it, you can sleep on the floor!â Reactions? (They are not in a relationship just quite yet, but you know, the flames and tension are there)
During the Thereâs Only One Bed scene in game, the MC can choose to offer to share the bed, give them the bed, or tell them to sleep elsewhere...
So youâll see their reactions to all three in game ;)

For those that are unfamiliar with the game
A Tale of Crowns is a high fantasy love story, told in the form of a text-based interactive novel with choice mechanics. The setting is inspired by Kurdish culture as well as other historical settings in the Middle East such as Ancient Persia, but it also draws heavily from other cultures and countries in the region.
Your character is native to Arsur, a vast empire overseen by a single ruler known as the Crown. Unlike traditional monarchies, however, the title is not inherited through blood. Whenever the Crown dies, their famed golden eyes pass on to the one chosen by the Spirits of this world to be the new Crown. In this story, your MC takes on that role.
There are four different love interests to choose from, whose genders will be customized to suit the preferences of your Crown. You can find more info about them on the blog page!
Also note that this current version of the game is safe for those 16 years and older.
Like the premise so far? Download it and give it a try! The entire game is free!
If you enjoyed the game, please reblog! Share it with your friends! Recognition and reader interaction is just about the only thing I get in return for creating it â¤ď¸
Would any of the ROsâ families have issues with a trans mc? Or a same gender mc? (Iâd still romance em, just curious whose families are bigots lol)
Nope! All the ROsâ families are cool with their sons dating someone of any gender!Â
Fae are way more progressive about gender and sexuality, so Azrielâs, Rookâs and Wrenâs families wouldnât bat an eye.Â
Eliâs parents know their son is bisexual and they have a lesbian daughter and a genderqueer child. They are only full of love for their future child-in-law.Â
Kaiâs parents also know heâs bisexual. They just want their son to be happy.Â
Cassâs mom took him to pride parades as a kid and is a very progressive/liberal person. Sheâd love anyone her son loved.Â
Lirâs mom doesnât care one bit. Lirâs kind are also progressive about sexuality and gender.
Xanderâs parents are dead. Though seeing as they were born 1000 years ago, theyâd probably have an issue with it. But they dead so. Xanderâs vampire family is very LGBTQ+ friendly though. As they are all LGBTQ+ too.Â
A few (supernatural) parents may dislike MC for other reasons though... but nothing to do with gender or sexuality!Â

These are my personal MCs for Twin Coves!Â
Having characters I can picture when writing that represent the different directions the MC can take has been super helpful for me. Obviously, youâre not playing these exact charactersâyou can imagine whoever you wantâbut they allow me to make sure I am taking different personalities, genders, heights, etc into consideration.
Also, these are examples of what MC portraits will look like for the giveaway Iâd like to do, or for a reward on the eventual Kickstarter!Â
And yes, the warm or cool tones have a meaning ;)
Happy Valentineâs Day! (And Happy Birthday Lir!)

02/06/2021 Update
After a long meeting with the writers yesterday, we've come to a tentative deadline for the first draft of the demo script. It will consist of roughly eight scenes and introduce all romance options. We hope to pass the script along to art and coding in March or April.

I have a question and I hope I don't sound rude! I keep seeing people ask over and over about Kai as a love interest and you are so nice about saying no. Is it even okay to ask a dev to change their story just because you can't get over an obsession of a side character? I think if I were a creator it would make me mad or hurt my feelings. I guess my real question is are you okay? Sorry if this is a weird thing to talk about! I really loved the demo update and I can't wait to play the full game!
Thanks for sending this in, Anon. Itâs not rude at all and Iâm happy to chat about this! This is an important issue among the indie developer community, regardless of genre. Iâll start with a scenario. Say you open a restaurant that serves specialized cuisine. You only serve dishes with noodles or pasta. You have other ingredients to create your different recipes, but the aforementioned is what you sell. Person A who eats at the restaurant says, âThis is delicious! I totally love it here!â and shares the place with their friends. Youâre over the moon from that positive feedback and people are enjoying the restaurant. Then person B comes. They review the menu and when you approach for their order they ask, âHi, can I order a burger?â Youâre rightfully confused. The restaurant only serves pasta and ramen. âPardon me, but we only serve noodle-based dishes here. Did you want more time with the menu?â âOh, I read the menu. I see you have ground beef used in some of your dishes. So, Iâd like a burger.â âSorry but, we only serve pasta and ramen.â âYou have the ground beef, right? Why canât I have a burger?â Exasperated, person B tells you how insensitive you are that youâve clearly never considered selling burgers since your restaurant has ground beef. They of course say this loud enough that everyone is watching now, and itâs become a commotion. So what do you do? You were never selling burgers. Itâs a noodle-based restaurant. What solution works, and whoâs wrong? You for using ground beef in a few of your recipes? Or person B who approached for the item theyâd like at this specialized establishment? Now imagine, person C steps in to break up the commotion, but they say, âFrom tomorrow on, sell burgers. Itâll be good for business.â Mind you, your restaurantâs kitchen was constructed optimally to serve pasta and ramen. Youâd have to invest at a hefty price to meet this demand. Now, what If I tell you thereâs a massive burger-joint beside your mom-and-pop noodle restaurant. What then? Perhaps this was a crude analogy, but I think it puts into perspective how indie developers can feel. You wouldnât waltz into a pasta restaurant and order a burger because they carry ground beef, would you? Iâd hope not. Following that logic, I believe developers should craft stories they love with characters they want to make. Itâs destructive for anyone to receive constant, unsolicited criticism. I donât understand this notion people have that creators arenât people who feel pain and discouragement when others are blatantly malicious to us. Perhaps you consider your feedback constructive, or have zero ill-intention and believe youâre giving useful feedback to a creative. After all, if you release your work to the public you MUST accept criticism, right? Hmm, not quite. People donât grow from endless criticism. We donât fault children for struggling and berate them. We understand they grow from encouragement. Yet, after becoming adults this magically shifts? Weâre meant to absorb negativity and malicious intent because suddenly thatâs the only way to grow? I hope that sounds as silly to you as it always has me. Thereâs a difference between something that isnât for you and a product thatâs objectively bad. Thereâs so much behaviour in these circles devs donât talk about. Like being torn down at every opportunity when a player doesnât receive the exact experience they desired, or being badgered non-stop by them until the creator submits and makes adjustments. Things like being ridiculed by developer peers and distancing yourself from all online communication for some peace. Itâs terrifying. I donât know how to explain to people that criticism can be constructive, yet itâs okay for creatives to reject it? Generally, when a creator has a problem, theyâve already considered the available options and deemed them unfeasible for specific reasons. It sucks seeing fellow creators quit or disappear because theyâve been so discouraged that theyâd rather never create again. The reality is when you create something it wonât be for everyone, but that doesnât instantly make it bad. Creators shouldnât change their characters or foundational world-building to suit different preferences. Asking them to do so, and being upset when they donât, is rude. Creators shouldnât be flamed for putting their foot down about matters like this. Yes, some feedback is valid even if we reject it. Weâre not perfect, and itâs destructive to us mentally and physically trying to craft something to every playerâs preference at once. If you like a creativeâs work and want to see more in the future, put faith in them and respect that they craft their works with love the way they want to. Iâm okay, Anon. End of the day, I appreciate that Iâve created a character people care about. Nothing beats that inspiring feeling. This was a lengthy post, but I hope it sheds some light on the situation from a developer perspective. It hurts watching my peers suffer, burnout, and stop creating from the damaging experiences Iâve shared in this post. Much love, Riri
