sad reality of the fanfic-to-published work economy is that the weirdest people are willing to do it. that's why there's now hundreds of shitty no plot cishet hate-to-love enemies-to-lovers books that are ex reylo fanfic. and it's not even good. that's because the people who wrote book-quality steve/bucky and kirk/spock fic are too normal to think to themselves "i should get this porn published". they're too busy working in local government offices

#imo the writers who write insanely good fanfic can’t file the serial numbers off because they grasped the canon so thoroughly #the shitty stuff is publishable because once you change the names you can’t recognize these people

#on main for Reasons #reworking fic to original work is hard #too hard if you’ve done the canon right #I’ve tried trust me #writing original works is extra challenging and time consuming because YOU BUILD EVERYTHIGN YOURSELF #so the slate you start with from the canon with fic is gone #and is now your responsibility to form #I’m not saying publishing fic is wrong or anything #like I said I’ve tried in terms of reworking my fics to be more suited for general audiences and originality #but even a good AU fic will still require hours of rework and editing and changing to make it original enough #AND on top of all that #this is also why you can absolutely tell when someone’s published work is based on fanfic #if they were lazy or didn’t have the skill #because it’s glaringly cliche and follows canon tropes #even if the characters are beyond the originals #fanfic is meant to be recognizably unoriginal #which is why published fanfic by writers who don’t care #is either slapdash or poorly executed

Happy KakaGai day everyone, the time has finally come!!

Event Announcement!!

The mods have been away for a while, plotting, scheming, desperately trying to juggle everything life has thrown at us, but we are finally back with our next KakaGai event!

Get ready for KakaGai Week 2026!

The event will run from Thursday, August 13 - Wednesday, August 19 and we will accept works posted to Tumblr, Twitter, Bluesky, and AO3. Just like our previous events, all forms of art are accepted so long as it's created by you and KakaGai themed!

Prompts will be released next week, along with exclusive countdown art by the lovely and ever-talented @jvnart!

Rules and FAQ are similar to our past events, but we will post them separately on the blog for you to review and link them here as well.

As always, if you have any questions feel free to drop us a line, and don't forget to join the Discord server for potential bonuses and sneak peeks!
