“It’s good to see that the club is still standing after my weekend. I’m pleasantly surprised that you didn’t burn the place down, how’ve you been?”

“Well, hello to you too. I’m trustworthy. I keep this place in tip top shape, thank you very much. I’ve been alright - in dire need of coffee, though. You?”

‘’I don’t know, babe. The whole – your presence is bothering me – act just doesn’t do it, I guess.’’ He smiled down at her as he rested his forearm on the side of Leo’s booth. ‘’I’m sure someone is going to find it cute, though.’’

“It’s not an act. Sometimes your presence does genuinely bother me.” she spoke in a serious tone, before smirking slightly up at him. “Cute? I don’t want anyone to find anything about me cute.”

“I’m just teasing you, stop. And thank you very much, I’ll pay tomorrow as I’ve said two hundred times. — I’m not happy enough though, I’ll stay here and bother you some more. What are your plans for after your shift? Something fun?”

“Sorry. Shitty night. Don’t worry about it, it’s on me. I’m probably just gonna go home when I finish, honestly.”

‘’Alrighty then – I’ll get drunk with you.’’ He drummed against the side of the bar with his two hands to finally push himself away from it. ‘’Enjoy your evening.’’ He wasn’t going to bother her any longer; he headed straight to the DJ boot. She looked like she could use a moment.

“Okay, well my shift ends in like five minutes, so..” she turned around to put a glass away, but when she turned back, he’d already headed for the DJ booth. “Hey, can I leave my stuff behind here for a bit?” she asked a fellow bartender, who then proceeded to hide it away for he. Jess quickly ducked out of the rush of the people around the bar, strutting over to Phillip. “Hey, why’d you run off? My shift just ended.”

“ i know i don’t have to but i want to !! ” she exclaimed practically jumping with each word that left her mouth. “ halloween is my favorite thing ever. i don’t know what you mean it’s so good it’s the only time of year you can be whatever you want, where you can be unapologetically yourself and nobody can really judge you. ” 

“ it’s finally october !! ” she chirped happily holding out the bag that had her little red riding hood costume inside. “ i don’t think you know how long i’ve waited for this very moment. now i can start wearing costumes and nobody can say anything about it because halloween is a thing. ”

“You know you could have made me a drink five minutes ago and it’d spare you the annoyance. But alright, I’ll patiently wait for your shift to end. Should I start a countdown and see how long you last before yelling at me? — 9 minutes and fifty-eight seconds…” 

“Oh my god, Leo. You are so annoying. Fine. Here’s your stupid drink. Happy now? Can you stop annoying me?”

“They’re not watching, Jess. Are you going to make me beg, please don’t do it, I just forgot my wallet as per usual. — Am I going to have to ask another bartender that will probably not make my drink as good as you do?”

“For the love of- Look. My shift ends in like ten minutes. If you wait until then, I can buy you the drink and make it myself before I go.”

“Oh, come on, I really do think your dress is beautiful and that your drinks are the best ones here. — And I’m not that drunk, stop it. I’ll pay up tomorrow, you know I always do, love.”

“It’s not happening, Leo. There’s so many people here tonight. If they see me giving you freebies, they’ll all start wanting them.”

‘’I don’t want none of ‘em free drinks, Jess!’’ Phil said with a snort as he leaned against the bar. ‘’What are you doing after your shift?’’

Jess rolled her eyes at him, pouring herself the shot of tequila that an old friend had bought her about an hour ago. “Of course. Whatever.” she knocked back the shot, sticking the empty glass under the bar and leaned forwards. “I was planning to get drunk. Why?”

“Okay, but why would you willingly give me a pair of Laboutins? I mean, that’s super, super nice but I feel a little bad.”

“I don’t need eight pairs. There’s only seven days in a week, Sierra. Plus, I can always buy more.”

“I’m a size seven; why?”

“Me too! I have like eight pairs. You can have a pair if you’d like.”
