“How responsible of you. Like I’d risk my job taking something from your home that I don’t need nor can’t get myself”

“Better safe than sorry.”

“To be fair I said wedding, not day but your judgement is interesting just the same. So what brings you to the wedding? The bride or the groom?”

“Same difference. And neither, or actually both, I guess? I don’t get along with either of them well, but I have to keep up appearances.”

She chuckles and turns on her smile for the couple, “I’m sure they wont, my renovation work is stellar” 

“Awfully confident in yourself, aren’t you?” Felix spoke tersely towards her, his smile drawn tight.

“Fair point. Should I go so far to say brothers will be brothers?”

“If you want to, I won’t stop you.”

“Wasn’t the conversation about the children from indiscretions not the indiscretions themselves?” She shrugs unaffected by his exasperation with her. “Alright alright I’ll let you be before you pop a vessel. I hear them coming back anyway. Should they be happy with the conditions, all that’s needed is to sign a few papers.”

“You’re hitting a little too close to home, but I think the degree of separation between those two things is too minute to be picky about.” He waved a hand absently before he folded his arms across his chest. “I hope that they don’t have any problems.”

“What exactly would you describe as eventful?”

“The groom getting shot came as a surprise. I think that would qualify as making the whole day eventful by itself.”

He chuckles looking back to him. “I’m sure you can, whether you’d show it or not is another thing. Now do you wanna keep telling me how little you care or do you want me to finish and get out of your hair”

“While I would love to just walk away and forget I even spoke to you, I’d better stay. Keep an eye on things. I’d like to make sure you’re not dawdling.”

“Of course. Then again, our family never really had a chance ever since your father shagged my mom”

“It takes two to tango, Forsythe.”

“Glad to hear it” Her head tilted toward him taking in his response. She found his response interesting and couldn’t help herself. “Well it is an good comparison is it not.”

He sighed, an exasperated, tired noise, his hands reaching up to push through his hair. “Is it? Did you want to go into detail on how good old Richard never heard of contraception too? How neither of my parents hold any value to the sanctity of marriage? Because we can, if that’s what you want. Can’t say it’s too professional of you now.”

[Text: Felix] Little things mean a lot.

(text → gillian): Haven't done it for many.

‘Are weddings in this place usually this eventful?”

“Nothing here is ever this eventful.”

“Oh really? I was unsure considering you were questioning my skills, one would think you had a way of discerning whether I’m good or not. Who would have that you were all talk.”

“I don’t care how you do your job. I don’t care about you. I only care whether or not you do well, as I’ve already said. That said, none of those things mean that I can’t value when someone has a skill I don’t. ”

“Not about my daughter, unless you know her name you don’t get an opinion”

“It’s too late for me to not have one. Sorry.”

Her eyes roll at his comment. “Careful not to say that too loudly, they might think you don’t care about their business.” She chuckles amused, “The child is a bastard, aka they were never in the home aka..their parents abandoned them from the start. but you would suggest that it was the child’s fault. Don’t you have a bastard brother of your own? Maybe more so…”

“Just because I’d prefer not to be here, it doesn’t mean I won’t do my job and do it well.” He looked towards her from the corners of his eyes, unable to help the frown that appeared on his lips. “Fine, in that case, it isn’t the kid’s fault. But figuring out where the blame lies isn’t going to change anything. The bastard is going to get the short end of the stick solely because of the parents’ decision and shame and whatever else they might be feeling. -- And are we really going to throw my family dynamics in as a comparison?”

(text → gillian): It's only coffee.

[Text: Felix] I guess that's not working then.

[Text: Felix] But thank you.

(text → gillian): Guess I wasn't expecting it.

(text → gillian): Try again?

“Well, if you’re smart–you wouldn’t bet the skin off your back. I mean, from what I’ve seen here, you’d leave here bleeding…”

“It’s just an expression -- and the only thing I’m bleeding right now is money. I can’t help but wonder why you’re complaining when it’s your pocket it’s going into.”
