even if aether wasn't there she could already hear his voice: ' it's not him, lumine. you know it's impossible for him to be here. swallowing thickly, lumine tries to gain her compsure with a curt nod. " yeah - ah, yes. i'm fine. sorry. you just.. reminded me of someone that's.. long gone. " golden eyes lift slowly, and lumine smiles faintly. " don't mind me, i'll be fine. now - you came in today to order right? whatever you'd like it's on me, free of charge. "

“Hm….” His hand shifts to tap his chin in thought, glancing at the menu behind the girl at the register. Their eyes meet when he’s finally chosen his order, and he can’t stop the way a grin spreads across his lips. She seemed sweet, with bright blonde hair and those gold eyes he was hoping he wasn’t staring too long at...

it wasn't always like this. no, not at all. in fact, it's almost as if, this time around, aether and lumine had switched places. in teyvat, things had been different; roles reversed. lumine had the life. she shared it with her best friend; who eventually would become the love of her life, too. childe. someone who'd taken heart without even asking. the thought of his bright hair against a sunny sky was an image she often held onto, along with the narwhal keychain charm she kept on her backpack. maybe one day, they'd be fated to meet again.

for aether and lumine, time was of no consequence, with different cycles came different worlds. no two that they traveled too were ever the same, either. even if they did run into some familiar faces.

as the bell on the door of the shop chimes, lumine glances up as she pours cream into a pitcher with a smile. " hey, welcome! i'll be right with you! " finishing the french vanilla latte she'd been making, she takes a golden marker and jots down the name " jean " on the cup, after calling it out, and then setting on the counter.

wiping the sweat from her brow, lumine brushes a few small curls of blonde away from her eyes and dries her hands on her apron before heading back to the register to take the next order.

she's preoccupied as she logs in with her credentials to the register and hasn't yet looked away from the screen, " thanks for waiting! what can i get started for you today? " but, when her golden eyes do finally lift from the pc screen, the customer service smile she'd been wearing begins to waver and she's pretty sure her jaw hit the floor when she finally realized hust eho was standing before her.

" no.. " the words leave her in shock, and lumine takes a step back, hand gripping the counter for support. she blinks once, trying to make sure she wasn't imagining things - she had born working a lot of double shifts lately... but, no matter how many times she opened and closed her eyes: there he stood - probably looking more puzzled than ever.

He starts his walk to the train station in silence and tries to ignore the signs of rain in the distance. Darkened clouds and the soft rumble of thunder. Or was that his stomach? Damn, he hadn’t eaten today, had he?

Ajax looks up from his phone to glance at buildings lining the street. There were no restaurants in the immediate vicinity, only a small coffee shop. That’ll have to do. With a sigh he steps into the small shop and approaches the counter, waiting patiently for the girl pouring a cup of coffee.

The reaction certainly catches him off guard. Had he done something wrong? Have they met before? He didn’t think so. . . He tries not to show too much of his confusion at her expression and clears his throat awkwardly.

it was in moments like this, that jean missed the friendship they shared as children and young adults. what happened to turtle races, sunshine, and smiles? just because they were older and she was now the acting grand master -- that shouln't have changed anything. yet, it seemed, it really, really, had.

it's when her query of worry is thrown back at her, that jean's jaw drops. she's not used to having others challenge her. but, diluc wasn't just anyone, was he? and he most certainly was not one of her knights.

Such as the return one of Fatui Harbinger. Even with his far too busy schedule, with all that he knows and understands of this youth, personally handling the situation would be the most prudent course of action.
