It hasn’t been warm enough to wear and model my Olwen Sweater, but here it is, finished! I used 6 colors of Explorer Coast from @greatbritishyarns, a 50/50 cotton-wool laceweight yarn, and it was delightful for this garment. Pardon the horrid mirror photos, but I’m in a quandary about the length of this sweater! The hem/cuff will be the same either way, as pictured on the left. Please weigh in! Cropped pros and cons: more versatile with skirts and dresses, but not as nice with pants. May emphasize my middle rather than slim it. Will leave yarn left over, when I’d rather use it up. Perhaps I like it only because it’s en vogue, but not as timeless? Long pros and cons: More winter-appropriate and warm, but won’t be long enough to cover my bum and wear with leggings. Perhaps more slimming, or perhaps the added length also adds bulk. My first original top-down pullover is NEARLY FINISHED. I’ve made so many adjustments and false starts on it, learning a lot about yoke design and sweater fit in the process, but it now truly resembles the vision in my mind. The yarns are a combo of treasured Madeline Tosh skeins (Esoteric, Hi/Lo, an Modern Fair Isle) and Cascade 220 Superwash (Pine Grove, Green Spruce, and Mock Orange). It is totally lush and dynamic and lovely. Someday, maybe, I’ll write up the pattern. Besides taking a trip from London to California, and starting to dismantle the house for a move to DC in the next few weeks, I’ve finished the Olwen Sweater (photos to come), done some planned pooling and embroidery, and labored on my yoked pullover here. It’s been a heinous project, with over a dozen reattempts, but I love what’s on the needles right now.
