The cheap waffle place was... Not terribly full. THey never are. Neither are they ever -empty- either. A tired waitress in nurses shoes with a starched collar is hovering near Ferda's seat, writing down on a small pad as he points to a few things on the sticky, laminated menu, his usual little dry-erase board at the edge of the table to let her know he wouldn't be able to hear her questions but to feel free to write on the small two sided plate of mirror and white.
Dorian shuffles in, head down and hands shoved into the pockets of his worn corduroy coat. He doesn’t recognize Ferda, of course, but takes stock of the situation before slumping down at a table nearby.
The grammar is certainly off, but no more than Ferda’s own. He still doesn’t have the word order completely right … Most of the time… but the words come easier with practice. Especially practice with someone who won’t judge him for the poor structure. <Come sit? I can -practice?> It takes him a second or two to get the right sign, but hopefully the meaning shows through. <We can eat together.>
Dorian freezes for a moment at the suggestion, eyes flicking toward the exit, but then he nods and stands, shuffling over. He drops down across from Ferda and gives him a tiny smile.
“I’m Dorian.” He spells the name out slowly.
<F-E-R-D-A.> comes the response, along with a cocky smile. It’s the greatest nickname -ever-, though it’s a lot funnier with his last name included. <Good meeting you.>
“Ferda? Good to meet you too.”
It’s around this point they both get their meals. Dorian’s ordered a LOT of food, three regular meals worth. He grimaces in embarassment as he tries to get everything to fit on the table without getting in Ferda’s way.
“I…wanted leftovers,” he explains sheepishly.
No doubt the poor waitress is thinking that another four people must be about to show up, given the sheer amount of food ordered between the two. Half for a hungry lad wanting leftovers, the other for a massive gymbro-himbo. Ferda guffaws shamelessly at the setting by the waitresses’ third trip of plates and reaches over to offer Dorian a fistbump. <I just eat like a horse.> He signs,
“Oh me too.” A smile flickers across Dorian’s face and he returns the fistbump, though he doesn’t make eye contact.
“Gotta save a little bit for later, but I’ll probably eat most of it now.” Dorian shrugs. You wouldn’t know he’s a big eater to look at him, and his oversized corduroy jacket makes him look even smaller.
<My mother says I have a hollow leg.> Ferda signs, though it doesn’t translate perfectly. <I spend a lot of time at the gym though.>
