[the slip of paper is left on the desk before anyone can see who left it, the writing is simple but the ink is blue. "I need you to come back."]
[A plain card with a small tree embossed in gold in the corner sits in an envelope. The message inside reads, "I always knew that idiotic sense of service and chivalry would get you hurt one day. Just do us all a favor and come back, alright?]
[a small, handmade card with slightly-wobbly handwriting reading "I hope you get better, Mr. Ericson. Here's some reading for when you wake up." is dropped off at reception along with a few photocopied pages from Henry's book and a few of the comics he'd collected]

I've Got You | Ariel & Eric
Sheâd done it. Â Sheâd actually done it. Â A pair of legs, traded at the price of her voice. Â It was almost everything sheâd wanted, almost being the key. Â Seeing the human world and having legs, that sheâd wanted. Â But in her fantasies, sheâd always been able to speak, to ask questions, and more recently to tell the human sheâd saved how she felt. Â But that was going to be more of a challenge now. Â For a week sheâd been in a daze, completely lovestruck until her father had destroyed everything sheâd collected. Â Then it had been a race to run away and see her human again. Â And only Ursula had offered a solution, which is how sheâd ended up on the beach.
As she lounged against a rock in the shallows, admiring her new appendages with a gleeful smile, Sebastian skittered around on the rock behind her, fretting about what they could do to fix whatâd happened. Â After a minute or so of this, Ariel turned and gave the crab a glare, trying to convey that she had everything under control. Â All she would have to do is get into the pattern of walking, find where her human lived, and start to make him fall in love with her. To prove her point, she tried to stand, only to wobble and fall back into the water. Â The former mermaid sat up and huffed, then tugged her thick hair out of her eyes and behind her ear before trying again. Â It was easier this time. Â Her feet ached at first, almost screaming, but the feeling died quickly to a dull buzz as she started taking her first uneasy steps. Â Her first walk was interrupted when she tripped over some sort of fabric in the water. Â Ariel wrestled with it for a while, then stood back up, holding the remains of a sail and looking over with curiosity. Â It would help her seem normal, she determined, if she wore something, and she wrapped it around herself in an attempt to make what the human girls wore. Â While she put together her makeshift dress, she started walking again, this time up onto the beach. Â Her eyes widened when her toes first encountered dry sand, and she grinned.
She took a handful of skipping steps.  Her dress now finishedâat least she thought soâshe thought she fit rather well into what humans were supposed to look like.  If she was able to squeal, she would have.  Up until the point when she heard the strangest noise sheâd ever heard, followed by a furry creature attacking her, knocking her onto her backside. OrâŚshe thought it was attacking.  If it was, the attack didnât do much good, it fact, it tickled.
The creature was pulled away, and Arielâs eyes moved to fixate on the man whoâd controlled him, only to bring the brightest of smiles to her face. Â It was him. Â Her human, the one sheâd wanted to find. Â It must have been fate, she thought, for her search to be over before it even began. He took off the thing around his shoulders and wrapped it around her own, She swore her heart picked its pace up considerably, and her cheeks flushed red. At his question, she opened her mouth, about to answer verbally, but nothing came out. Â It dawned on her then how difficult the next few days would be. Â Ariel nodded, smiling up at him.
The girls face lit up when she looked at him and Eric felt his heart stand still for what felt like an eternity. He'd seen that smile before. He knew he had but he didn't dare let himself believe it just yet. When she answered him he'd know and he could escort her back to the castle where she could tell Phillip and all the others that she was quite real and then... and then he didn't know what he would do. Was it considered hasty to ask for a maiden's hand when you had barely officially met her? That's how the royals did it after all with their betrothals and arranged marriages. Phillip had never even met the girl he would one day marry. Only after all this had went through his mind did he stop to think that maybe she wouldn't want to marry him. Yes, his heart was fit to burst with love for the singing girl but that didn't mean she would feel the same.Â
Anxiously he awaited her response, the proof he longed for that this was the women he had fallen so completely for. When her answer came in the form of a nod Eric had to curse himself for being so foolish. She'd tried to speak but no sound had come so it was doubtful the voice he adored belonged to her. Still, the man was a knight and his own own romantic notions shouldn't get in the way of chivalry. His hands adjusted his cape on her shoulders to keep as much of the sea breeze off her as possible. "Are you from the village?" He asked kindly, examining her face with a tilt of his head that sent curls tumbling about his shoulders.Â
He was sure he would recall a girl quite as lovely as this one had she been from the village and he hadn't even began to think about why exactly she was clad in a makeshift dress. "I can escort you ba... Oh forgive me M'lady. I haven't even introduced myself." He was already on his knees beside her so he could only offer her a dip of his head. "I am Sir Eric."
I've Got You | Ariel & Eric
That voice. Her Voice. It was still with him even now, even when everyone from the healer to Phillip was telling him that it was nothing more than a figment of his imagination. You were too long at sea. That's what they'd said when he first told them about the beautiful song that pulled him to the edge of the ship day after day, even during the storm that struck when they were almost safely home. It can do strange things to a man's head. They insisted when he spoke of the girl who'd dragged him from the waves and stayed by his side until he came round.Â
The castle walls were driving him almost as mad as everyone seemed so sure he was. It had been a week since he'd almost drowned and he could still hear her just as clearly as he had when she was on the sand beside him. He needed to get out and there was only one place that could make him feel better so he got Max and made the short journey down to the water.Â
The sound of the waves was soothing but not quite enough to drive away the melody that had been haunting him for so long. Not even playing with the his boisterous dog at wrestling was enough to distract him from wondering who she could have been. It was while he was lost in these thoughts that Max took off barking down the sand the way he only did when there was something or someone he didn't know present.Â
"Max come back" He yelled as he gave chase. It was never a good look to have your pet terrorising innocent people as they tried to enjoy the favourable weather down by the sea but when Eric got closer to Max's newest annoyance he noticed that the dog wasn't annoyed at all. In face he was covering the poor girl with licks, so many that he seemed to have knocked her to the floor. "I'm sorry M'lady." Eric offered with a blush, one hand pulling Max off of her while he gave a small bow. Only then did he notice that the girl on the sand was shoeless and that her only clothes seemed to be an old tattered sail from one of the fishing boats that trawled the shore.Â
Without a second thought he let go of Max and unclipped the cloak from his shoulders to kneel beside her and wrap it around her tiny frame. "A-are you okay, M'lady?"
Matt's heart dropped into his stomach when the bell rang. As a firefighter there was always that strange balance. As much as you complained about being bored when nothing happend you would always dread the shout coming in. The station burst into action. Men and women pulling on boots and coats and rushing down to the engine as the chief shouted out orders and details of where they were heading.Â
A call had came in, reporting a fire in a local restaurant. The Joly Rodger. At this time of night everyone was sure it would have been closed which meant that there would be no customers inside which of course was a big relief for the crew but they couldn't account for staff that had stayed behind to close up.Â
Adrenaline rushed through Matt as he climbed into the back of the engine with the others, bracing himself with his foot on the back of the seat in front with they jerked into motion, his head already swimming with all his usual thoughts when being called out. Hoping it wouldn't be as bad as he thought, praying that no one would be inside and that all his co-workers would be safe. The most ritualistic of all was imagining the sound of the sea, waves lapping on the shore. It calmed him, cleared his head and made it possible for him to do the very hard job at hand.Â
When they arrived on the scene black smoke was billowing from shattered windows with flames licking out into the night. It was late but still a small crowd had gathered and were being contained by Emma and Brandon, the sheriff and her deputy doing their best to keep everyone calm and out of the way while the hose was unfurled.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Matt couldn't quite remember entering the building. He never did. That was a moment he tried not to dwell on too much if he did he'd never be able to make himself do it. The flames had been fought back as much as they could before sending anyone in but they didn't have time to wait until they were completely extinguished to start looking for anyone who might be trapped inside. No one in the dining room except Matt and his crew but in the hallway that ran along the back they weren't so lucky. A man lay half in and half out of an open door. Even with the smoke distorting his vision there was no mistaking who it could be. A quick word in the radio strapped to his chest and Matt started along the hall. "Killian?" He called out over the blaze. No reaction.
He was halfway down to the office when he heard the creaking from up above. It wasn't safe this far back but how could be retreat when the other man lay just a few feet away. If he could just close the gap and get to Killian everything would be okay. He was almost close enough to grab a hold of the other man when what was left of the ceiling groaned and came down.Â
One Step Closer | Brooke & Matt
The laugh that escaped her when he twirled her away was unable to be stopped. Â A pure, bubbly expression of the way her heart was starting to soar as it only had what seemed an eternity ago. Â As he pulled her back, she could almost smell the salty air. She had gotten closer, she noticed, but she didnât mind it so much. Â It was what she had wanted earlier, and it felt natural in the best way. Â It made her want the push the line a little further, get a little closer.
Her smile grew shy, letting his fingers intertwine with hers, then graze along the side of her hand. The question lingered unsaid in the back of her mind if he wouldnât mind taking another dance with herâŚ.if he wouldnât mind leaving his date to spend a little more time together if she did the sameâno matter how morally wrong that suggestion was.  She wanted to test the waters, see if what she had thought about him was right.  But then he spoke, and what he said brought a breathy laugh, âSo are you.â
His eyes scanned her face nervously and it was almost as though he was seeing her for the first time... and the millionth. Of course they weren't strangers. He knew well enough what she looked like but this was different. Everything about this was different and suddenly he found himself thinking of how disastrously the date they had gone on once had ended and how that could be possible when she made him feel like this with a simple touch. He spun them round, lifting her off her feet for just a second before landing her expertly on the ground again, never missing a step. The movements echoing in his muscles. His own body begging him to go just a little further. A little closer to the strange niggling feeling.Â
"You bring it out in me I guess, Br..." He said with a self conscious dipping of his head. He'd almost said her name then but it didn't fit. Brooke wasn't what he wanted to call her. There was something else. A name that belonged to her.
One Step Closer | Brooke & Matt
Every single step called back a memory of dancing at royal balls and dresses that spun as elegantly as they were.  Flowing skirts and dashing suitsâŚand the undeniable rush that being held by Eric brought.  The steady onslaught of deja vu made her want to get closer, and made her smile slip into blissful territory.  It would be so easy for her to dance the night away with him, she briefly thought.  Before the reminder that both of them had brought dates shoved the hopeful notion away.
It was hard to even notice what was going on around them with how smoothly they carried on.  Dancing with Matt was like sheâd never stopped, like there hadnât been nearly twenty nine years of being out of practice.  Almost as if she had never even changed partners.  Maybe sheâd found her first dance instructor, the one sheâd sold her voice to meetâŚmaybe, just maybe, she had found Eric.  Itâd explain how easily they fit, the ease of dancing, and how she still had a crush on him even when she knew he was at the dance with someone else.  How she still wanted to get closer despite having a date herself.
Each move seemed to be one more word in an unspoken conversation between them. Her smile mirrored on his face as the smell of the ocean filled him till he thought he was going to burst. Well no, that couldn't be right but it didn't make the smell leave him or the unmistakeable feeling of the sea breeze on his face and in his hair. Matthew stood a little straighter as he spun Brook away from him for a moment, never letting go of her hand. He pulled her back to him with a soft laugh, she was closer than before when his hand settled back onto her waist.Â
There was something tugging at his mind and at his heart. Something older than he could explain and more a part of him than he dared to imagine. It was taking control of him now. Changing the way he stood and making him alter the way he held Brooke's hand. Twisting slightly to lace his fingers through hers. It was better that way he thought as his thumb traced the side of her palm before coming to rest on her wrist, just over the pulse point. The way he was sure he remembered doing a thousand times before but surely that couldn't be right. "I." He began dumbly. "You're a good dancer."

One Step Closer | Brooke & Matt
âI wouldâve had to deal with the guilt of turning you down for weeks,â she laughed softly. Â Her free hand tucked loose strands of her hair behind her ear as she followed his lead. Â It was much easier when she was sober, sheâd realized, as opposed to when he had helped her home when sheâd called him up on an offer heâd made her. Â In most respects, that is. Â In the respect that this felt different than any other time sheâd taken his hand, it was much harder to stay focused.
For most of the night, she had been trying to be a sub-par dancer. Â She wouldnât deny that. Â But she had said she had two left feet to her date, and she hadnât wanted to seem a liar. Â With Matt, however, she wanted to seem competent, so she straightened her posture and squared her shoulders. Â All the while she second-guessed herself, biting her lower lip until he placed his hand on her waist, when her stomach tied itself into knots, her head feeling strangely lighter, urging her to put her hand on his shoulder. Â At his step forward, she mirrored it without a moment of hesitation, moving her left back to follow him.
Her body under his fingers was a comforting feeling. Familiar in a way he couldn't begin to describe let alone understand. Every fibre of his being and some more besides was urging him to close the respectable gap that had been left between them but his brain was quick to remind him that she was an other mans date and he'd brought a date of his own this evening although with every passing moment he held her that voice was getting harder and harder to hear.Â
Matt had never been the best dancer but he could hold his own on the floor when he wanted to but that little inkling of a talent seemed amplified a million times now that he was spinning with Brooke. Each move flowing smoothly into the next without even so much as a thought. The sounds of the band were fading away, the song being replaced by an other that he swore he had heard in a dream once before.Â

On my own. Â And I did a decent job. Â Iâm rather proud of this first step toward being a homemaker. Iâm going to celebrate by getting a slice of pie at Grannyâs.
Brandon not hired that maid then?

Either Addie's finished moving her stuff in
Well, yes. But itâs still a point okay.Â
To be fair⌠sheâs only a mermaid for the first bit. Then sheâs a beautiful human girl!Â
And the stupid looking prince who falls in love without even speaking to her?
Either Addie's finished moving her stuff in
Yes. But what if we were feeling unsociable?Â
YouâŚ..donât like that movie? WHY?
Isn't that against one of your house rules?
Come on Matt, it's about mermaids. Anyone over the age of five has no interest what so ever in made up fish girls.
