I saw some posts about the wlw aspects of Astrid et Raphaëlle, and some questions on whether they are canon on the show. I’ve only just finished the first season (it is SO good), and thought I’d share my take on it (NO SPOILERS). 

A part of why I initially started watching the show is because of the wlw subtext, but what I’ve come to really appreciate about the writing is how they’ve portrayed the unique aspects of Astrid and Raphaëlle’s friendship.

In our society, romantic relationships are often put above all other types of relationships, valued more than friendships, etc. In my opinion, this show truly portrays how important and valuable good friendships are, and how absolutely fulfilling they can be. I won’t go into any specific scenes, because I don’t want to spoil anything, but trust me when I say the friendship between Astrid (an autistic woman) and Raphaëlle (a neurotypical woman) is so so so beautifully written. It’s hard to put into words, but it’s very heartwarming to watch.

And as a questioning aromantic, I really appreciate this sort of writing. Showing the importance of non-romantic relationships/love too. So while I definitely ship Astraëlle (🏳️‍🌈), I also won’t be disappointed if it never happens, because I highly appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of their friendship too!

I have weird thoughts. Like sometimes I want to go sleep in the woods. Or in the basement of an abandoned house during the day. And only come out at night. And be, like, a monster. And, like, beautiful.
