You were great in there, Bob

shortly after the events of the movie the vault squad goes to the mall to get themselves some clothes (for most of them to comfortably travel home in to gather their things and for bob to start a new wardrobe). ava and yelena head into a women's store together and john and bob go into a men's store. john is already annoyed that he's wearing bucky's borrowed clothes and isn't exactly happy about being alone with bob. he just wants to get in and out of the store asap. it takes him like a minute to grab some t-shirts and pants and boxers. by the time he's done bob has nothing. this is irritating to john who tells him to just get something and bob says "i don't know what to get." john sighs. it's not a fancy store. has the guy never bought a t-shirt before? he asks bob what size he wears. bob opens and closes his mouth twice before he says he doesn't know. john asks how the hell he doesn't know his own size. the thing is, bob was really underweight before sentry (documented weight loss is canonically in his oxe file). he could easily wear a small but usually went up to medium only because he's tall. what bob actually says is "it's different" as he gestures to his body. it takes a second but john understands. they try a medium. it's tight. bob is sitting shirtless in the changing room on the edge of a panic attack because he doesn't even recognize himself in the mirror. he's in there a long time before he lets john in. john sits down on the bench with him and tells him his body has changed a lot too. he's not comfortable with it. he's embarrassed that his size has gone up twice since the serum. bob just nods and for some reason john has the urge to hug him so he does. they take their time finding clothes that are comfortable for bob. most of it is baggy and hides his body which john finds a little upsetting but he gets it. one step at a time. ava and yelena tease them about what took so long. john blames himself, claims he's picky about fabric. bob says nothing. he looks at john differently after that.

i like to think collie goes from regular aggression to cuteness aggression as time goes on when it comes to barko. he goes from wanting to beat the shit out of him because he's an asshole to looking at him petting his kittycat on the couch or just laying there doing nothing and getting the overwhelming urge to squeeze the life out of him but out of affection this time. like his body physically cannot handle how cute barkovitch is sometimes and he is deeply ashamed of that.
