“minor?” she teased, looking down as his thumb traced her knuckles. a quick and involuntarily shiver crossed her back at his touch, making her wonder if she’d just imagined it. yet she knew that she hadn’t, although she could never admit to herself that she was attracted to her best friend, no matter how her body responded to him; so she pushed that thought away, like she did to everything else around her. “a little, but i don’t mind it honestly.” she shrugged, looking up at him with wide, blue-green orbs. “pfft, oh totally. so obsessed,” she stuck her tongue out at him before grabbing a towel from the bench and wrapping it around her neck. “for sure, i’m starving. think they have some burgers near here?”

“fine, i admit. i fucking love pizza, okay? it’s an issue.” he smiled simply at her as she spoke, praying his features didn’t too obviously reveal his absolute adoration for her, “you’re a strong one, you are.” he raised his eyebrows as she expressed shock, placing a hand on his hip. “let’s not pretend now, you’re basically my fan.” he grinned at the mentioning of burgers, placing a hand on his stomach as it rumbled. “probably, if we walk for long enough we’d find somewhere. but please, nothing vegan. i’m never trying that again.”

“A vegan burger? I can do veggie burgers, but a vegan burger is one step too far.”

“a vegan burger. veggie burgers are alright, i can stand ‘em-- vegetables are are good for you. i can’t say the same for vegan burgers. the devil’s handy work, i’m telling you.”

“a vegan burger? ew how do you manage to eat that everyday. “

“they must have to go through some form of coaching and/ or therapy because there’s no way anyone can happily eat like this off their own accord.”

“A vegan burger? That’s disgusting.. I mean, not to bash vegans, but I need meat to survive.”

“you’re not the only one. veganism truly baffles me... i mean, as humans, we need meat. like, need.”

“don’t be such a negative nancy, some of them are actually pretty good! burger fi makes some great ones, i can take you if you want to try something new?” 

“negative nancy’s my middle name, you know this. by ‘try something new’, can it just not be vegan? that’s just a road i’m not willing to take.”

“Right, like the texture of it just kind of makes me want to vomit.” 

“the texture, the smell, the look, the taste - it’s all just off.” 

“Everyone’s taste buds are different? They love animals a whole lot? They hate their own happiness? Lots of reasons, probably.”

“the last seems most appropriate.”

“well-- you see in life, when an individual is unsure regarding a certain topic or issue, they tend to look for others for answers. that’s kinda what just happened here, love.”

“the fuck you’re eating a vegan burger for, dude? be better.”

“thought i’d expand my horizons. made a big fucking mistake.”

“i don’t understand vegan food. i mean it all tastes terrible..”

“i know, right? it was quite painful to consume if i’m honest. i got a taste of what it was like to be vegan for like, 10 minutes, and i simply cannot comprehend how people can do this for years.”

“What type did you try, maybe it just wasn’t a very good one?”

“i don’t remember but there was mushroom in it. either way, i don’t think i’ll be trying again - it was quite a traumatic experience for me, actually.” 

“Was it a mushroom vegan burger or a black bean vegan burger?  Because the mushroom ones are the worst things I’ve ever touched.”

“A mushroom one. I don’t know why I’d do that to myself either, I hate mushrooms. I vote for the creation of more vegan friendly foods ‘cos I mean... it must be a shit life - food is so important.”

“I’m more amused at the fact that you thought trying a vegan burger would be a good idea.”

“Shut it, you. I tried to be experimental, put myself in others’ shoes, try a different walk of life-- never again.”
