As most of you already know, Left 4 Dead 2 is receiving it’s first major official update in several years that’s been put together by members of the community
While that’s good and all, the SFM artist of the team behind the update is in trouble. The landlord of their family has sold their current home giving them a minimum of roughly 30 days to find a new house. 10 of these days have already passed and they need money to cover the first and last rent among other things.

How long has it been since there was an official update that wasn’t just bug/exploit fixes? Doesn’t matter, we are finally getting a major official update “By the community, for the community” as Jaiz himself puts it.

Good news: Monika’s official Twitter account (Lilmonix3) is back!
Bad news: Half of her media posts are still gone due to those DMCA claims.
And if that’s not enough, whoever was/were behind the false DMCA claims on Monika’s account clearly wasn’t satisfied
Several accounts have already been suspended on Twitter and this has at one point involved Sathely’s account (Official artist for the game) which has thankfully been restored now. As far as we know, no accounts outside of Twitter have been suspended (yet) but if you post DDLC content regularly, you could potentially be in danger of having your account suspended.
I’ll post more about this when more info shows up but for the time being, keep an eye on your accounts and Dan Salvato’s social media for any possible updates.
Strangely enough I haven’t seen anyone mention about this on the DDLC tag so just in case you aren’t aware, last weekend Dan Salvato posted this on Twitter regarding their official Monika account:

Heisters, I’m posting this today to communicate a few of the changes coming to PAYDAY 2. Most of you don’t know me, and that’s how it should be. The day to day interactions you have with our OVERKILL devs, community managers and moderator crew are by far more interesting, I’m sure. Our team, together with you, provide a forum where firsthand input can be discussed, and these are dialogues that directly affect our current and future development.
If you haven’t read this post yet, this is an open letter from the new CEO of Starbreeze. (Since December 2018) Here’s some things that stood out:
-Support for Payday 2 has been brought back.
-The CEO admits that they have to break the promise of the game not receiving paid content anymore and mentions that the company is still in a financial jam, adding that back in December of 2018 they only had enough projected cash reserves to run the company until mid-January of 2019 but managed to pull through thanks to hard work and the commitment of their employees and have now been able started to think about the future of Payday and their company.
-DLC will again be available to be purchased separately rather than all being locked behind the Ultimate Edition bundle.
-Speaking of which, the Ultimate Edition bundle will be renamed to Legacy Collection and a trailer for this is already out. It’s just the UE trailer with different text and music so you won’t really miss anything if you don’t watch it.
-Lastly, a new update should be coming out soon. I didn’t make a post about this when it came up (I’ll just admit it, I’ve been slacking off on everything lately) but 2 months ago someone on Reddit noticed that a new branch titled test17 had been created which led to speculation that there a special update of sorts coming out on Payday’s anniversary. This and another branch titled QA were updated about a month ago and again around the time this letter was posted.
Some winds of change indeed. Whether or not the title is intentionally a reference to one of the achievements in the game or just pure coincidence remains a mystery.
Well, the elephant in the room is that paid DLC is coming back, contrary to their announcement that Payday 2 would not receive any of that anymore.
On one hand it is disappointing that this game could not be left to rest in peace.
On the other hand, given how Overkill’s The Walking Dead failed hard due to several reasons (More detail about how it ended up like it did here) and the fact that Bo Andersson fucked over Stabreeze royally, this might just be the only way to keep the company afloat until they manage to get a new game out.
Well either way, we’ll just have to see how this goes. There’s already new teaser achievements added to the achievement page so we’re likely going to get a new heist soon-ish. Could be taking place after the ending of Payday, could be taking place before that. Speculated to be taking place in Mexico so it might be something about Sangres or the Somewhere In Mexico ending. If Starbreeze is careful about it, they might be able to bring back paid DLC with only minimal backlash. We all know what happened when a promise was broken in a harsh way and Overkill tried to pretend that everything was fine.
Personally though? I’m worried how this will all turn out.

Exact details about what’s true and what isn’t are still in the dark but seeing how 2K and Gearbox could’ve easily handled this with a single Cease and Desist letter (Assuming that at least something about what they stated was true) things are not looking good on their part.
