Mothers Garden
A little boy, sad and filled with anger about his parents sudden death runs away from his aunts house. He runs into a nearby forest and curls up beneath a large tree. His cries fill the silent forest. When he wipes his eyes he saw the heavy fog closing in around him. He pulled his jacket tighter when he felt a icy breeze. That’s when he heard it. His mothers voice. Sweet and calm. Calling to him. He stood up, tears streaming down his cheeks. He looked around but the fog was so thick he could barely see his hand in front of him. “Mother!?” He shouts into the unknown. “Come here my darling. I can’t see you.” The voice calls sweetly. “Mother I’m right here! Where are you?” He sees a dark figure of a woman. He starts to run to the dark figure. While running he starts to recall his family’s funeral. He slows down and starts to walk. He remembers the car crash. The figure is not far off now. He stops. He starts to feel cold and sick. He falls to his knees. “Don’t you want to be with me?” The figure asks. The boy looks up. The figure is still and stretched its long dark arm. The boy has no strength, and his breathing is shallow. But moves closer. He has no control over his body. When he looked at her face cold sweat covered his whole body. Her eyes were black holes and her face decayed. He could see her teeth through her cheek. “I’ve found you my son.” A tree had formed around her lower half keeping her in place. He fought the urge to reach out and touch her hand. But he did not have the strength. As soon as their fingers interlocked he could feel the earth build up around him. The woman smiled grimly. The boy looked around and tried to scream for help but had no energy. It had been sapped by the tree that was engulfing his lower body. He glanced around noticed all the trees had faces of small children. The woman turns his face to hers. “Aren’t you happy to be a part of mothers garden?”
The End
Every day I spend with Roger feels like a surreal movie I have seen before. It feels like this time I spend with him is very important. When I recall our memories together it feels like I’m watching a home movie. And I don’t mean just watching it. It’s the feeling that you get when watching a home movie. The kind of feeling that you want to cry because you are looking at a precious memory. I have never encountered this with anyone else except for Ava. This is something I am scared to tell him about. I’m afraid it might ruin the feeling. Or he might think I am strange for having such weird emotions about him. I dream of him constantly. That makes me happy. I enjoy having him there. I love his mind the most. His imagination gives me hope that mine isn’t dead.

‘agreed’. that’s a funny way to spell ‘were forcibly removed with the alternative of painful deaths’.
propaganda
Your regular reminder that the first example is Canadian. (The clue is “first nations.”)
Much as we like to pretend otherwise, America doesn’t have a monopoly on racism, genocide, or whitewashing.
also a reminder than australian schools do not acknowledge our own history of slavery, or “blackbirding”. i had no idea 60,000 pacific islanders were kidnapped and enslaved in australia until after i graduated, because no one talks about it. and even what we do learn is watered down. the focus was always on white settlers and how they discovered land, their mapping, their dedication and their struggles; only very briefly do we get to focus on the murders they committed, the generational trauma they caused by stealing an entire generation for the sole purpose of breeding the indigenous blood out of them, the indescribable, abhorrent things they did to indigenous people.
