so much for my happy ending

Faye had been so back and forth lately that it was exhausting and draining. She had moved to Bridgefield so that she didn’t have to be in town and have all these memories of Callum taunting her from every single street corner. She moved to Bridgefield because it was far enough away that she could start over but close enough that her parents and brother and his husband could still visit. But she’d taken it upon herself to do all of the visiting, putting herself in that town over and over again, not only because she was curious about her birth family, but because she met and fell in love with Rachel Parker.

She wouldn’t change it, not for anything, despite the fact that Rachel had been with Maxine first. It’s not like Faye had much relationship with Maxine (she doubted she ever would) and Elena was a hard woman to pin down... so she kind of stopped trying. Maybe she’d try again in the future when she felt able but for now, Faye was becoming content with her life again and she had to keep moving forward... not backwards.

She helped Rachel pack up her stuff, knowing how hard this all was for her girlfriend. She knew what it was like to lose a sibling and she knew how they’d worked to get their relationship better over the last while. Faye’s heart broke for Rachel but she was determined to be there and help as much as she could and honestly, behind all that was some excitement because Rachel would be moving into her place officially. Which she was a little nervous about in case she fucked it up but she was happy.

“Oh, hey... everything okay? What’s up?”

Rachel nodded her head. “Yeah, Bridgefield is far enough. I’m never going to come back after this..”

“I just–I don’t think I can continue to live here anymore.” She didn’t want to be in Baberton anymore at all.

“That they do.” He chuckled lightly. “Nothing. Figured we could get some lunch or something.” 

Faye smiled a little, nodding. “Yeah, sure... what do you feel like?” She wondered, pausing briefly before she spoke again. “Maybe... we can go visit Callum’s.. grave later? Take some flowers?”

Paul laughed, reaching up to catch the napkin. “No, no, sister dear, do not let my excitement fool you. I am absolutely petrified.” He grinned, reaching for his toast. 

“Really?”

“Good you should because ya know I really do like you. More like I love you.” Rachel said this, looking into her eyes.
