So I have this theory. What if Astro was actually being Tobio? Now hear me out.

We all know that Tenma would often neglect Tobio and because of that, he misses out on important things in his son’s life. That’s why he has that picture of Tobio in his head in which he likes certain things, does certain things, or hates certain things, but it’s not quite true.

Tobio knows that Tenma is a hard-working man and is very tired when he returns from work. That’s why he would tell him lies about himself so he wouldn’t have to worry and exhaust him even more.

After Tobio’s death and the creation of Astro, he started paying more attention to his new robotic son and spent a lot of time with him. That’s when he notices that Astro wasn’t reflecting the picture of Tobio he had in his head and disowns him afterward.
