reading the infernal devices while being chronically ill made me feel so weirdly seen. jem was chronically ill and disabled, but the way he forced himself to put that aside to keep being a shadowhunter and doing what he loved is such a universal experience for chronically ill people. and the way he tried to hide his symptoms when he was sick so the people he loved wouldn’t worry about him, it just devastates me but it’s such a good representation of what it’s like to have a disability at a young age :(
