“Odin. Hey- hey!” Despite Niles’ calls, his fellow retainer seemed to be firmly trapped in his own little fantasy world. He had been pacing around the library for ten minutes now, feather duster in hand, brandishing it like it was a weapon of some kind. “Odin!” Niles smacked the other man with his own feather duster, hoping that that would jolt him out of fairyland. “What are you doing? We’re supposed to be dusting books, you know. If we don’t finish, I’ll make sure Lord Leo knows exactly what sort of nonsense you’ve been pulling all day.”

A lunge forward, then riposte, and for the finisher—

A smack in the face by his very own feather duster?! Bested by his fellow retainer right before he could vanquish the dustiest of demons?!

“ Wha-?! Niles...! To interrupt the sacred final battle against this plague of dirt and grime is integral to our mission! If these grimy cravens aren’t eliminated post-haste, the tomes will never be safe from further filth! ”

It hadn’t quite jolted him out of the fantasy plot of demonic dust bunnies and their vile scheme to bedeck Lord Leo’s tomes with cobwebs and other horrors. Sure, it wasn’t his most impressive tale, but dusting by itself was dreadfully boring. Niles’ presence hadn’t served to spice things up any, either.

"Odin, you're - you're alive?" {BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAE}

Worrying his liege pained him far worse than any wounds that bedecked his body, and Odin winced at the weight of such simple words. He’d been missing for months, the last mission keeping him far longer than it should have—months in which he could have been protecting his lord and at his side.

Rotting as a prisoner of war didn’t sit well with the retainer, and it had only been through sheer force of will that he escaped. Wounds reopened countless times while on the run, but eventually his tenacity prevailed. The sorcerer was home and at his liege’s side, where he belonged. No secrets had been spilled, only blood, and now he could continue to protect Lord Leo.

“ It would take far more to fell this warrior of darkness, milord…! Years ago, I swore to you… that I would be ever at your side, and follow you into the jaws of oblivion and back—to die- to die so soon, so easily, would be to break my most sacred of vows! ”

A little shaky to be certain, but Odin Dark had faced far worse as a teenager.

To say that Odin Dark was merely excited would be blasphemy of the highest order—even the term ecstatic paled miserably in comparison to the joy that bounded through every fiber of his being. He threatened to bubble over with untold passion and delight, practically vibrating as life burst forth with every movement—

He was giddy and bouncing. Not very professional for meeting Prince Leo, his new lord, his liege for untold moons to come! Yet, try as humble Odin might, he could not rein in his feelings. How could he, when all his hard work had blossomed into an opportunity to protect the rumored dark prince of Nohr. Brilliant and regal: a true prince among princes.

Though he did make sure to remain silent as the king introduced them to each other: surviving long enough to actually serve the young prince was enough to quiet him. Once they had left Garon’s presence, however, Odin was all energy and excitement, dramatic flourish and song! Well, not truly song. He was no bard. Even the prince’s seemingly sour mood would not daunt him on this day!
