I honestly feel that more Marxists should be studying fascism. We have been in a period of long economic decline since 2008 which has been intensified by the pandemic. There will be even more pressures on social and economic life as a result of climate change. Fascism increases in popularity and strength during these crises in which the reproduction of capitalism and the defense of private property is threatened. Crises also increase the popularity and strength of the socialist movement and fascism then becomes a weapon to bludgeon the masses into submission with and suppress the socialists.

Fascism represents the most reactionary elements of class society led by a dictatorship of imperialist monopoly and finance capital. The preconditions for fascism has historically been imperialist and colonial campaigns to create new markets and reshape that nations political structure to support extraction of capital and labor. But if capital is facing a crisis of reproduction, the soldiers who return home bring the techniques of the colonial frontier of empire to be used to crush capital’s domestic enemies - the proletariat, the masses, the poorest of the poor, the socialists and the anarchists, the disabled, lgbt people, Black people and immigrants, Jews, Roma, and others.
