I can see the flowers and the greenery. I take a breath of air, I feel free.

𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 the ease of his words forces a shudder up the length of Neji’s spine , shaking shoulders the Hyuga had at one point tensed. blindness was a fragile subject he’d have rather never touch upon out of both respect and the discomfort he felt to even consider the fact. yet the closeness he had developed with Shisui , and moreover the care he had for him and the concern such high regard bred , had pushed and prodded him past his better judgement. how could he be so complacent with his fate when the very thought was enough to corrode the Hyuga’s sleep with terrors unfathomable.
he had rasped his question through a dry throat , wide eyes of pale lavender fading into translucency as time lapsed between his thoughts and what had finally been spoken. ‵ Shishou , how can you be so at peace with having lost your eyes ? ʹ Shisui had not once stuttered from the calm demeanor he wore , his answer as vague and philosophical as many of the responses Neji had come to expect from him in his time under his tutelage had been. most stirring of all was the pleasantness of the smile that glided easily across his face as he spoke , and the warmth of his arm as it squeezed Neji’s shoulder with a reassurance he was in dire need of but would have never voiced aloud.
it was , after all , Neji who faltered in composure , left breathless and scrambling for response. freedom was a word that taken ownership of much of his contemplation , yet he’d have never thought to pair it with an instance so crippling as the loss of precious sight. ‵ under conditions such as ours where the use of the eyes is so strenuous and pressing . . . ʹ the hushed drone of his voice tries , slowly , to piece together the strings of meaning in his master’s words into a single strand of coherence. ‵ the loss of what so many covet is like the untethering of noose from our throats. ʹ his interpretation ends more like a question posed than a statement given. he takes a long pause before he presses on ; ‵ . . . were flowers and foliage the last things you saw ? ʹ
