Tears rolled down their cheeks as the teacher towered over them, clipboard ready, delivering a long, scathing lecture about their parenting failures.

Finally, the women were made to pick up pencils and write lines in the childish notebooks on their desks:

“I am a failure as a mother.” “My son’s bad behavior is entirely my fault.” “I deserve to be punished like this.”

They wrote through sobs, tears dripping onto the paper while Ms. Hargrove inspected their work and corrected them harshly if the handwriting wasn’t perfect.

The session ended in the girls’ bathroom. Still dressed only in their tank tops, panties, socks, and sneakers, the three mothers were ordered to sit on the open toilets with their panties pulled down around their ankles. Ms. Hargrove stood before them, pointing accusingly as they cried openly, arms wrapped around themselves in utter humiliation.
