for the white people in the fandom
i've seen the blatantly racist anon's on @quinnfebrey 's blog, and guys, we (white people in this fandom) need to do better.
i sent a few asks myself talking about my views on the white favoritism in this fandom on anon, but then i realized that sending anon asks and reblogging a few posts isn't enough, because poc in this fandom are immediately under fire when they mention stuff like this, and the same just doesn't go for white people.
we need to realize that there is an enormous gap between the amount of attention that for example Reign and Jenna get vs how much attention Mia gets.
the livestream today, but also reign's event some time ago, and many other times it has become very clear that it is completely out of balance.
there have been so many moments where poc in the fandom have brought it up, and every time we nod our head yes and then go back to reposting pictures of Mia's vape and we willfully ignore our white favoritism.
and stop saying that people like Mia because she's bi, because i don't see the same support for shannon. Mia gets this amount of support because she's white AND she fits into the beauty standard
i mean, the og script of the wilds said it right, the power of a white girl
for context, Leah thinks that when everyone listens to Shelby instead of Rachel (sound familiar?)
yeah, it's incredibly disappointed that the fandom of show that is a critique on the way our society works can be so blind to the obvious bias we have
let's listen to poc instead of talking over them, let's accept that we have internalized racism (which is inherent to being white) we have to work on.
if poc correct you on something, please change it instead of arguing that "it isn't that deep" or "it isn't racist"
reblog posts made by poc instead of just liking them and going on with your life, amplify the voices that need to be heard.
if you post about the cast, don't ignore parts of the cast. if you post about the show, don't ignore parts of the show. if you write fanfiction, don't leave out characters purposely without an actual reason
let's actually change instead of just saying we will and then just doing the same thing again.
