Was looking through the headcanons tag on the Dino Squad tumblr and wanted to share some of mine as well! So let’s start.

Max:

Biggest one I’ve been brewing up is that our favorite jock actually has ADHD! He’s very medicated lol, which is why it wouldn’t present as strongly, but I just really wanted to explain why he’s literally so obsessed with sports. Like he couldn’t understand a math problem until it was told to him via a football analogy 🤣! And it is such a big part of his life as it’s what his profession will most likely be in the future, but it comes across (at least to me) as a hyperfixation. Like I’ve been saying: he’s obsessed. This characteristic would also be a nice twist on his archetype, as he’s the basic, “normal guy,” but in actuality is neurodivergent! And it couples nicely with Liam, who is on the autism spectrum, and the pair’s dynamic. At first Max was a bit confused at Liam’s behavior, but when Liam came to save the day and was drenching the squad in honey soda (or whatever the heck that stuff was) and told them how this would help lure the bees to de-ooze them, everyone was confused, except Max, who instantly understands what Liam is talking about. It creates a parallel where, even though initially Max doesn’t understand Liam all too well, as he’s likely been medicated for the majority of his life and interacts in social situations constantly so is more used to navigating them, the two still have an underlying connection due to their brains being wired differently then others, and I think that’s a really neato idea. Also also, Max is shown to be very orderly and schedule-based, as mentioned in “The Not So Great Outdoors,” he has a list and is literally checking it twice, which at first sounds nothing like someone with ADHD, but I view it as a habit he picked up as to help with his time-managing issues as a kid and to keep him on track, and now he enforces it on his friends xD. So yeah, I really like this headcanon! (which is why I made it lol). And it’s just funny to think about Max being a hyperactive little gremlin as a child and running around, driving his parents INSANE lmao. But then grows up to be a very responsible, mature, chill dude who just wants to play football all day.

While scrolling the tumblr I saw the hc that Max is Jewish, and I can kinda see it, but I’m not particularly onboard. I got attached to him being very German (as his full name entails lol) and the rather darker idea that his family were N*zis (censoring just in case tumblr gets made at me; idk if they really care or not cause idk how it works) a fact that Max is deeply distressed by. I imagine he’d have a difficult time in school when it came to having to learn about the Holocaust and watching movies about it, as knowing that your country, your family, the people who run in your own veins, did this to so many innocent lives, it definitely tears him apart on the inside. This is so interesting to me with the sort of internal conflict it gives Max bc he’s so good-hearted and moral, so seeing him struggle with the hard truth of his family’s past and having a sort of “German guilt” about it all and feeling ashamed and like he’s a bad person even though he wasn’t even there and bc of those feelings he goes out of his way to help others, which intertwines with him actually being a good person and him wanting to rectify his guilt is just *muah* chef’s kiss angst material. Also I just really like it when very heroic characters rampantly go around saving everyone even if it’s to their own detriment due to some underlying guilt (but they are actually good people at heart and it’s not completely born from a place of selfishness, but the guilt definitely contributes to the excessiveness of it).

I also saw while scrolling something about what the characters would watch on YouTube, and Max was assigned Game Theory, which is a hilarious mental image! But I would like to introduce an alternative to that, in which Max has never watched Game Theory and doesn’t even know what it is lol. I imagine him as barely using any sort of social media, maybe only YT and Instagram, but that’s basically the extent, the latter being something he only downloaded bc his friends begged him to so he could follow them, and only posts when his teams’ have won a game and uploads a picture of the trophy, or something else related to sports, but that’s it. He would definitely spend some time on YT, but I’m sure it would just be to watch stuff on sports. And I just don’t think he’d really be into video games. I don’t think he’s played video games other than those NBA football/basketball ones and fricking wii sports lmao. I know I’m really leaning into his sports obsession now but it’s just so funny to me and, well, his passion! But that’s all I have for him rn, so let’s move on to…

Fiona:

She’s a Catholic girly (or at least was raised Catholic). I came to this bc half of her family is Irish, who are usually Catholic, as well as her mom probably being intentioned to be Hispanic, who are also Catholic. But Fiona most likely doesn’t go to church a lot anymore aside from special holidays like Christmas and Easter, but besides that she doesn’t really attend, which her parents are ok with as they want their daughter to form her own beliefs and be her own person. I don’t think she’s completely given up on religion as a whole, but is definitely questioning it and would rather have it as a background thought than something she actively abides by.

Following the speculation on what ethnicity her mother is, if I were to go with her being Hispanic I like to view her as Argentinian. But I’ve also thought abt her being Native American instead, as I think that fits too with Fi’s love of the environment and strong feelings regarding global warming and pollution, but I’m still debating—rn I’m more leaning on being Argentinian.

She’s always liked seafood, but after obtaining her Spinosaurus form, she started to like fish even more than before, and now she eats tuna sandwiches every day lol (I’m also going to add 1 more hc for Max on this topic: so he’s always been a meat lover, but ofc now that he’s a T.Rex he eats it considerably more. He still eats plant-based foods however, same with Fi, but it’s just not as much, and they can barely stomach really sweet stuff like some candies and fruits (or at least can eat them in small amounts before quickly getting sick of them), and both can’t stand the smell of perfume and the like, now being very sensitive to smells.

She has entomophobia (the fear of insects). In the show it’s clear she rather dislikes bugs, but I wanted to take it a step further and have her be straight up terrified of them (and to extension spiders since she is canonically allergic to them). It’s a fun trope when the rough-and-tough badass of the group secretly has a phobia—it gives them a sort of vulnerability that’s interesting to watch them deal with or overcome, though I don’t think Fiona would be very secretive with her’s. She doesn’t care if you know her irrational fear, just kill that dang bug! Also I have the scene playing in my head of Fiona discovering a roach in the lighthouse and freaking out, and Max is trying to kill it while Buzz is screaming at him not to do it and Caruso and Rodger are just watching it all go down lmao.

Jolyne & Fiona

for me the 2 first ones are friends and the 2nd one has a crush on Rodger :

they ending up joining the squad and bond over share passion such as video game with Terri,

Second one, maybe Shayna, also has a crush on Fiona as well as Rodger (she has a thing for the smart ones) and is in near constant crisis abt it. Tends to rant about it while she helps Courtney with her club activities.

Third one, she strikes me as a Rachelle (or Rebecca? something with an R), was one of the squad's lab partners freshman or sophomore year and invites them to parties when her parents are out on the weekends. Caruso's lab partner, I decided. She's also the leader of a school dance team.

Fourth one, I'm feeling Duncan, is on both the football and basketball team and Caruso loves ogling him when he goes to see Max's games with the rest of the squad. He and Max are casual friends and Fiona and Buzz see him at the local skatepark sometimes. He and Rachelle dated for a couple months but broke it off because they were both too busy.

Had a funny thought of how the characters would react to fnaf jumpscares lol. Enjoy my random brain dump!

Buzz: has been a fnaf fan since the first game and has played every single one, and has always enjoyed horror, so when he gets jump-scared he just bursts out laughing

Rodger: was also an early fnaf fan; played the first six games but after he kinda lost interest; still will sometimes watch/read stuff on the lore and new games but hasn’t actively engaged with the franchise beyond that in years; the jump-scares got him at first but he quickly got used to them

Fiona: knew about fnaf and played the first one with Terri when it came out cause her sister was really interested, and they both had fun, but Fi didn’t play another one until she met Buzz; she also likes horror and playing more she really came to like it; the jump-scares didn’t really faze her and also just found them funny

Caruso: has heard of it but never played and never wanted to, but Buzz did convince him to prove a point that he’s not a wimp; initially acted tough but once the first jump-scare came he screamed like a banshee and almost went dino in the lighthouse; Buzz thought this was hilarious

Max: has apparently lived under a rock his whole life so hasn’t heard of fnaf EVER, so his friends got him to play it to see his reaction; bro was not fazed AT ALL, staring blankly with slight confusion every time he got jump-scared (which actually wasn’t a lot; he caught on pretty quickly)

Moynihan: HAS actually heard of it from students talking about it during class over the years, and when the Squad were all playing it she asked to join as she was curious; she loved it lol; the jump-scares sometimes got her but she thought it was fun

Rump: he jumped on Fiona’s lap one time during a play through; he was scared at first, barking and growling at the screen, but got used to it

Terri: LOVES the games; might know more than even Buzz; jump-scares got her in the beginning but over the years she’s been barely fazed
