Grace is scared of touch, but also craves it. The Eridians *technically* touch him often, but it's not the same as a human's touch. (I just got the song stuck in my head lol.) His love language may largely be physical touch, but the last touch he recieved from another person was being held down and forcefully sedated to be put on a ship and sacraficed against his will.

Simon has never been all that big on touch, so the problem is never quite brought up in the beginning. However, he starts noticing small things with Grace. Hand twitches, hesitant second looks ultimately ending in an ashamed head shake, leaning closer to Simon subtly, but never actually committing to any kind of touch - all when he doesn't think Simon is looking.

Simon tries asking Rocky about it, but the Eridian is confused and brushes it off with a rude comment along the lines of, "Rocky better than Simon."

Eventually, he confronts Grace about it. Grace sort of recoils and mumbles incoherent excuses, clearly uncomfortable. Unfortunately, Simon isn't about to play that game, and pushes further. Finally, Grace caves and spills everything about what happened to him and why he's been acting the way he has. Simon feels a little bad about it because Grace has been sobbing and hugging himself as soon as got into it, so he offers Grace a hug, arms opened just enough for the science teacher to slip in. Grace hesitates, but slowly sinks into the convict's embrace.

Neither of them acclimate to it immediately, it takes a while for them to both to get used to the contact, but Simon thinks Grace seems much happier now that they cuddle and hug occasionally.
