In my several hundred years of life, I've traveled the known realms and I've come to one simple conclusion. People suck. In all forms, shapes, colors, races. Those factors make little difference. In all reality, most people are out for themselves. It's not like I'm one to talk, I made a living out of taking from others. I'm no better than anyone else but I wear that more of a badge of honor than anything else. I *will* stoop to your level. No hesitation. However, I have also seen how the worst ones are often the ones you feel closest to. My darling, my wife, my world, has seen the worst of this. Luckily she has found a few people who are decent in their own way. However, many of the people she was hurt by the most, were the ones she deemed the closest to her at that time. It's any wonder we ended up together given my winning personality and sunny attitude. I try and fail everyday to make her happy. But I'm starting to realize that it may have something to do with how she has been treated in the past. The ones she trusted, the ones she held onto the most, ended up betraying her in the end. That's a kind of wound much worse than any dagger I could ever brandish. That's a wound to the soul. I've certainly softened up in my old age, but I'm still rough around the edges. My wife tries to see the best in people, even me if you can believe that. However, the light in her eyes has long since dimmed and its a shame because she had a lot to give to the world. I guess the world just wasn't ready for what she has to give.
