i’d mentioned it in the replies of that post but it’s very important to me that butch is a genuinely talented hairdresser. like i don’t think the GOAT exam is some perfect, always accurate way of measuring someone’s abilities (leon got assigned vault chaplain initially like), but for butch to legitimately be The Best hairdresser in the capital wasteland, to truly be that great at something, it makes him so much more compelling. it allows for this underlying tragedy to make itself known—that he is that talented, that he could be successful, but that he is so achingly lonely and has been too afraid to see the world or reach out. he puts on a big show and says he is that good, and he is that good. but his own fears and abrasiveness completely squander any sort of branching out, so he’s stuck in his lil salon in rivet city for 10+ years.

and speaking of butch’s talents, this is also really important for burke bc there are connections you can make that imply he is someone who really cares about getting high-quality Everything. someone who—even in the wasteland—wants only the best for himself. even for arguably superfluous things like a fucking haircut. like burke is not exactly happy about having to kill his barber cus butch was the best (and he likely even offers to let him live and stay in tenpenny tower if he switches sides, but after everything butch isn’t gonna betray leon). burke has lines talking about how he “just got this suit tailored,” and if you follow along the lag-bolt (<- a talon company merc) and his brother lug-nut’s quests about the pairs of sleepwear, you know it involves a character called The Tailor, allowing you to make potential connections that burke could know of someone who is also a master of their craft when it comes to tailoring clothes like do you see what i mean. it’s all about having the best of the best. and having butch genuinely be someone who is Actually one of the best at something but who’s blowing it makes him so much more fascinating as a character.

For Pharmaceuticals of the Old World by Desmondbegood. The mod adds a bunch of new Chems to Fallout 4. I contributed a portrait and images of the Chems. They're military surplus-style textures that fit well within Fallout, while avoiding the "Oh this guy is modding their game into Call of Duty" feeling. It's being uploaded on NexusMods this weekend!
