"Oh my, now that would be an interesting news story to watch."

"'Giant umbrella takes over New York, best weather we've had in a while.' That'll be the headline."

"Yes, we would - but it does seem like a feasible solution. Although it would probably creep out all the mundanes though."

"Yeah, can you imagine just walking down the street one day and seeing a giant umbrella appear out of nowhere?"

"That's very nice of you. Thank you. Not too bad, actually. Meeting new people. Trying to get up the energy to train."

"Then, isn’t it their problem? They knew the risk of being a part of the shadow world, surely they had to make sure they know how to survive on their own. If not, they’re probably here to make sure somebody’s there to protect them."

"I suppose you do make a valid point. Everyone's survival is in their own hands, that way, unless of course they're here for protection from another like you say. Either way, I hope all the people boarding here fight when the time comes."

"I am. And I only had a single parent." He said, returning his gaze back to him, "Yeah. Been a Vampire for like a month." He said, returning her smile "Perhaps we are." Nodding lightly, he let out a small laugh, "It’s fine, really. Honestly, you’re the first person I’ve met who’s a Fledgling as well.

"Rough," she commented with a sad smile, which turned into a frown on his next words. "Double rough. I'm so sorry," she said again. "So, we're both the first fledgling either one of us has met?" She tapped her chin with her finger as if thinking. "We should mark this occasion." 

"Ooh, that's an interesting mental image. But could you imagine if it was That's a long time running a con, you'd get a bit tired, wouldn't you?"

"Exactly! It would be much easier to do anything when it’s not raining."

"New York, New York, the land of the endless rain, should be its official title, I think."

"What? I like ‘Z-man’ sound less dignified."

"But do you really think Z-Man would appreciate a less dignified name? I mean, he's pretty much got the ego of all egos."

"Then, we fight. Simple as that. I just wanted to point out, some people are more ginger about the fact that they have to be here train for it, rather they only came here for refuge."

"Well, yeah, there's that. But if our enemies do come, what's to say they won't figure out a way to get the one's taking refuge?"

"Now, that’s an idea - can you even get umbrellas that big?"

"Ooh, that's a good question. We'd have to ask the warlock."

He chuckles “Hey, fey herbs smell funny…”

"That may be true but they still stink up my clothes," she teased.

He smiled, nodding knowingly, though he was sure his own history differed immensely from her own. “I… I know what you mean. With only your parents that is.” He said softly, before looking away, “Vampire against Vampire.” The young man said with a faulty smile. “That’s fine. So am I.”

"You're an only child?" She noticed him look away after he said it but didn't push; his business was his business. "And a fledgling, too? We're more alike than I thought." She offered him a small smile. "I'm sorry if that was a bit too forward. I always forget that everyone didn't have it as easy as me."

"Well, I didn’t actually came here with a band holding tarpaulins that say ‘The party don’t start till Cass walks in’, I was speaking rather metaphorically. But how sure are you we all came here for the same reason, though?"

"It's our world. I mean, your world more than mine but who wouldn't want to fight for it? If we don't, certain destruction will surely end us."

"I’m glad somebody finds my name awesome. You came here recently? During the whole welcoming program of my arrival, I didn’t see you.”

"I didn't make much noise coming, no. I didn't think it was necessary to announce my arrival, giving that we're all here for the same reason."

He grinned, nodding, “Don’t worry, I’m rather the same. Been here for over a week now.” the Vampire explained, “I’ve yet to do any training myself. Maybe we could spar sometime, teach each other a thing or two.” He dreaded the idea of any form of training or combat, but knew it was something he would inevitably have to do… So why not with a friendly face?

"I think it's a tad homesickness, to be honest. It's always been just me and my parents and now I'm here and they're there." She shrugged abashedly before grinning at his offer. "Vampire against vampire? That sounds awesome but bear in mind I'm a fledgling so you've gotta go easy on me." Her first training session with a vampire? Now that was something to look forward to.

"The Z-Man? My mother is a folklore teacher and I've never heard anyone call him that before."

"No, no. I wasn’t actually getting that vibe—it’s more like a creative vibe. My parents hadn’t probably thought hard of my name. They probably were just saying names at random and then came Cassidy."

"Yes! Creative. That's what I was trying to get across. Either way, though, they picked a pretty awesome name."
