Fresh-faced and unfamiliar to the world of Golden Grove, Elise Second is thrown in for a loop. Who thought a small town like this could be this... jarring? Certainly not Elise. Well, it doesn't seem all that bad. Sure, maybe the entirety of the town is surrounded by icky towering trees and bark, and maybe the buildings itself seem to look like something out of the 1930s. But hey! With her two neighbors in her sight and future, the world can only seem so boring for long.

Elise uses her roller-skates to travel around town. She likes the feeling of the wind blowing against her face, while enjoying the concept of not having to carry a big mini-sized vehicle around. Don't worry! She has good balance... although that gets circumvented by her consistent urge for adventure and recklessness.

PIANO!!! Elise loooovess classical music. Although it's only in the beginning of Step One she formally starts piano lessons, she had a retired music teacher for a neighbor back at her old home, that watched over her when her mama was at work. Elise might have gotten her music taste from the records playing in her recorder, picked up a thing or two from her neighbor and the giant grand piano sitting in her living room.

The nickname 'Eli' was something Elise chose for herself when she moved to Golden Grove. She liked how it sounded, what it implied. (Only friends use her nickname, not everyone does.)

Elise has a very prevalent liking for sparkly, shimmery or shiny things. Like jewelry or stained glass windows. Like she will be mesmerized if she sees something sparkling through a shop window and just stare at it for a good long while before her mama pulls her away. (Extra fact: Elise finds Tamarack's hair and Qiu's eyes VERY sparkly... hmmmm...)

If not evident from her introduction, Elise doesn't like the town OR the forest. Elise finds the town too busy, too empty and too... nothing all at the same time. The forest is icky, dark and way too... whatever. Opal often pokes fun at the fact Elise doesn't ever seem to like anything unfamiliar. (Something she unfortunately cannot deny.)

Elise doesn't like the idea of change. It's scary, unpredictable, and better left off unexplored. Who cares if there's treasure there? She wants out! ...but... if Tamarack wants to go explore... then she supposes it's okay if they explore... for a LITTLE bit. (They proceeded to wander in the forest for 3 hours)

In narration, Elise is often described as a wolf or a unicorn. Occasionally a dragon. No matter how mesmerizing its' dance across the meadow, no matter how glittering the homeland of its jewels are, you very seldom forget the dangers and thrill of treading too near the territory of something so unfamiliar, something you can only watch from afar in admiration and curiosity.

Elise has a habit for fiddling with her hair when she's nervous. Playing with her jacket strings, rubbing her shoulder. She's very good at pretending she's not afraid nor scared. But once you figure out these small habits, you'll notice it actually happens very rarely. (However, she does seem to do this a lot around Qiu and Tamarack, hmm...)

"Oh, Qiu and Tamarack? They're... they're really nice. Very friendly. Very warm. Very autumn. Very pretty! Very smart. They're people I wanna spend the rest of my life with. They're really good friends." Elise was her own historian (I'm crying).

Elise has a very good relationship with her mama Opal! She interchanges from using mama, to mom, to mother depending on the situation (e.g.: mother is used when Elise is talking about her to someone else). Elise is very supportive of her mama, and would do anything to make her mama proud of her. (The moment that crying Opal image comes up Elise is gonna start wailing and bursting into tears and forgetting everything she was mad at Opal prior to this; WE LOVE OPAL SHE'S OUR QUEEEN!!!)

Elise likes watching Disney Movies on rainy days with lots of buttery popcorn. (She doesn't even like popcorn, it just tastes better when watching movies)

Elise likes wearing shorts/pants more than skirts. She just wanted to make a good impression on her first day of school/in Golden Grove. (The second image/headshot of Elise in my illustration is closer to what she would wear. You can tell it's quite similar to Tam's outfit in Step One!! :D)

When Elise is in GG a bit longer (and generally more comfortable around the town), she would def start purposely matching with Tammy and Qiu in the future seasons!!! Like similar overalls, t-shirts, colors etc. (She'd def go out of her way to very subtly hint/ask/cue in Tam and Qiu on what they're wearing the next day lmao)

By the way, this girl is NOT slick at all. Qiu finds out within a week of Elise doing this, Tamarack finds out within a week and a day. Although I imagine the both of them are quite happy to let Elise match with them. (There was definitely one picture day where all of them just straight up wore all yellow with washed out jeans and star clips. Mrs. Murray was crying/laughing the entire time the cul-de-sac kids are not even trying to hide their bias for each other at all).

2.) Do you use a self insert or create an OC for your MC? Both?

To be honest, I believe all of my characters contain a little tiny part of me in them! Some of them have my melancholy, others have my temper. Some of them are conflicted and lost, the rest are hopeful yet lonely.

None of my characters/OCs are a completely accurate retelling of me as a person, but I like to imagine if they did exist in the real world, they could all potentially be a past or future life I would’ve lived. :DD

3.) Favourite moment you've played from each game?

I’ve actually only played OLNF so far, but I’ll definitely try out OLBA once exams are over (sigh)!!! Favourite moment as of right now is Step 1’s Fancy Fun and Step 2’s Assistance. It’s a tie between them because I like angst… really like angst… hurt/comfort mm…

…I suddenly hate the fact these are just fictional characters on a screen because Qiu needs a hug. It won’t solve their problems at all but god they deserve one. Being too familiar with that feeling of loneliness, of losing something you don’t even know about. To mourn after something shapeless, something foreign, like a entity, a kinship you’ve never know you made. To chase after it and stumble blindly, looking for answers that might not even exist. (It does, but it’s dark without a single lantern or streetlamp, and god is it lonely)

Now if Elise would MAN UP (unintended pun oop) AND STOP PRETENDING QIU DOESN’T MATTER TO THEM WE CAN GET THE RIVALS TO LOVERS TEENAGE TWILIGHT RAINBOW EDITION SAGA OVER WITH YOU THREE ARE ALL INSUFFERABLE GRRRRR (Elise is happiness-phobic in Step 2 apparently)

7.) Who is your all-time favorite LI across both games?

THIS IS HARD… but if I was forced to…

Qiu, I love you and you are a part of me I lost and forgot about and now that I’ve refound you again and wonder how I ever forgot about you.

BUT MY QUEEN TAMARACK IS MY SOULMATE IN ANOTHER UNIVERSE!!! Oh to be someone so wild, so precious and free. To feel the claws of time and seeds of doubt grow vines and chain you from reaching where you always knew you wanted to be… to become something shaped so familiar, like a imaginary friend, to nestle in a body once a vessel to explore this world, landscape so beautiful that it is a extension of you, and now transformed into a cage, forbidding you from reaching the treetops that everyone else says are dangerous, even though you’ve done it before.

To find the most socially unpredictable, wild and free, the most aching part of you, the one that yearns for freedom, your beating heart, your limbs swinging as you run, chase like hands on a grandfather clock, to hear your breath fall onto your face, to now become the one thing ensnaring you. To become the one thing that little girl once detested and pushes against most. Yet it’s all to protect her. To stand guard against what threatens to destroy what remains of her. To keep her safe and close, and figuring out what to fill in the void left behind. To try and give yourself something- anything- to hold out until the ship reaches the shores. To be the knight dressed in a sweater and boots, to become the softest version of yourself, yet always standing firm, never yielding. Never willing to move her arms away even if it seems the enemy will finish this game of chess once and for all. But the blow will never come. She stands determined, nervous indeed; but never faltering.

And all this; for a friend. A friend, shaped with love and respect. So that that ‘not-friend’ could find her, see her, and make her her- make her the only person in the World. Because she would be the only person in a crowd of strangers you would barrel to, to trust enough to know with a single outstretched arm, she would cradle your warmth in hers, and keep it safe eternally. As long as your hand is in hers. And her yours.
