Guess who i saw today

I’m actually quite proud of this project, i know there are flaws but i genuinely enjoyed coming up with this, i wanted to present a graphic novel that wasn't with the traditional pen and pencil medium, i thought collage would be a good way to challenge myself and not just go for the first idea that went into my head. I also really enjoyed the idea of creating a narrative of what ever images i had at my disposal at the time.

I chose the phrase “Smoking Kills” because it was something that was very present in our lives but people constantly ignored o i decided to look at in a more direct way or less direct depending on how you think about. I embossed the phrase on some rizla using some acrylic that i laser cut the words into, he idea was just to portray it in another way that people might notice because maybe when you're rolling you may notice the little bumps on the rizla and take a look out of curiosity. that being said I also noticed that it could be seen as a more illlusive way to warn people of the dangers of smoking as the embossing is difficult to notice as it doesn't stand out as much, this being due to the delicacy of the paper making a more prominent warning difficult without tearing the rizla itself

I’ve always found people to be the most enjoyable to draw, i think it because you can encounter so many different characters. I drew these whilst next to a cafe not that far from the empire state building, it was a sunny day and i just decided to take a seat amongst all the people, it was a good opportunity as people seemed to just sit there for ages either having there own conversations or just taking in the sun not unlike myself.

I’ve never really been very keen on location drawing, i’ve never been able to find a subject that i could stick so i always found myself getting bored and it would show in my drawing, but at the southbank centre i saw this girl practising some dance moves and i immediately starting trying to capture every movement i could. her movements were so smooth and fluid, i think a brush pen was a good way to capture to capture that flow of movement
