"Just so happens I really enjoy reading aloud to an appreciative audience," Metatron murmurs. "Of course, I do got a lotta stuff memorized, too. Let me think..." and after a moment, he laughs a little.
"Got a good one. Kidnapped, by Robert Louis Stevenson. Adventure through Scotland. Young man robbed of his inheritance and sold into servitude escapes with his wits, strength, and a few roguish allies. No few daring escapes and close calls, but it all turns out right in the end."
The angel closes his eyes, and begins to recite: "I will begin the story of my adventures with a certain morning early in the month of June, the year of grace 1751, when I took the key for the last time out of the door of my father’s house. The sun began to shine upon the summit of the hills as I went down the road; and by the time I had come as far as the manse, the blackbirds were whistling in the garden lilacs, and the mist that hung around the valley in the time of the dawn was beginning to arise and die away..."
Metatron keeps stroking as his voice falls into a low, easy rhythm. He modulates it for different moods and characters, of course, but through all that he still keeps it as soothing as he can.
Honestly, it didn't matter what the archangel chose, Andras would have enjoyed listening to him regardless. But this wasn't too far off from something Andras might have chosen for himself to read. There was a good chance Metatron specifically chose something he thought the younger angel would like, and that thought made him feel pleasantly warm.
It turned out this was exactly the kind of thing he needed, giving him something to focus on instead of the negative feelings that had decided to surface for whatever reason. He didn't bother trying to stop the purr-like sounds that began to escape him as he leaned into his lover's touch. The earlier feeling he had of being drained of energy began to fade into a more pleasant drowsiness. Andras didn't fight it, nuzzling Metatron one more time before closing his eyes and drifting to sleep.
The older angel takes the signal to start gently carding his fingers through Andras's hair. He hums a little, thoughtless and low.
"I feel very lucky to have you, you know. Don't feel like you gotta say anything. Just wanted you to know that, 'cause it's true."
Metatron keeps petting, the motions slow and soothing. He won't mind if Andras dozes off. Metatron just wants to be here for him.
Normally those words would make him smile, but it's difficult in his current mood. The petting is soothing, though. Between that and Metatron's voice, the negative thoughts plaguing him are starting to have trouble sticking.
"Could you...just talk? Maybe read something? I just...wanna listen to you."
Okay so my shift key isn't working at all now. Both ctrl keys haven't been working for a while. I downloaded PowerToys so I can remap them to different keys. Which isn't an ideal solution, but it's something and I can't find anything else that works.
I should probably see if I can get someone to check out my laptop and hopefully fix it. As well as look at the issue I've been having with the speakers which I also haven't been able to find a fix for. But I really don't want to do that. Not yet, anyway.

And Metatron will sit down and gently, gently arrange him so that Andras can rest his head on his lap.
"You in the mood for being pet, or just chilling out? Or... I can give you more space. Anything that might help, lover."
He offers no resistance to being moved. And just nuzzles his lover's hand as an answer, because he really doesn't feel like talking.

I found some Slay The Princess animatics and it made me, not for the first time, think about rping as the protagonist (who's name is a major spoiler)...
But there's a reason i went back to just one muse and i certainly don't need one that's actually 12 different characters in one...
Except that's also what would make it fun...
I would need to make a separate blog (or change the one I haven't been using) and I'd need to figure out a way to make it easy to distinguish the voices, like different colored fonts or something...
Also I have no idea how he'd even interact with any other characters besides the ones from the same game...
So, yeah, I keep feeling tempted, but it'd be too much work...
See I think it would be fun to treat the voices as separate muses, but only partially. Like they can't do anything on their own, but people can ask them questions or specify one of them for a meme or whatever.
though I'm not sure if I could do a good job writing some of them...
Anyway I'm still not actually gonna do it.

Having someone witness/help him through a panic attack
Having someone calm him down after a nightmare (has to be someone he trusts, he wont sleep around anyone he doesn't)
Wing grooming/preening is always good (again has to be someone he trusts)
Smut stuff under the cut

I was reading a hanahaki fic and starting thinking of doing that to Andras somehow bc I like torturing him. Although it wouldn't be as devastating bc I don't think it could kill him, but maybe that means it'd just go on for longer...
Except I'd have to break the "rules" to do that bc him having unrequited feelings for someone is pretty rare. Especially since he tends to lose interest in someone if he knows they're not interested in him.

"They can. Or at least I can. It's a horrifically agonizing way to die." He says that in a deadpan tone, making himself sound more serious than he actually is. "Flowers won't help. I'm not dead yet." And he doesn't bother to get up.
