The blaring sound of sirens and yellow taxis beeping their horns fill your ears in addition to the speakers blasting music loud enough for the floor to feel electric. Different songs were blending together as you walked down the street, making you scrunch your nose at the horrific noise it made. It's incredibly busy, and there are people just stood in the middle of the path blocking everyone's way. The air felt warm, like a blanket was being wrapped around you. There was something about being in New York City that felt different, and you couldn't quite name what it was.
You pushed all your thoughts away about the city and focused on why you were here; to support Joe. He had no idea that his name was going to come up advertised on a building, but you felt a tingly, buzzing feeling inside of you. It wasn't often that you came to New York, so you wanted to surprise Joe with the best trip. His arm is wrapped tightly around your waist, keeping you close to his side with your cheek crushed against his chest.
You're the most supportive girlfriend to Joe, and he's constantly showing you appreciation for it through gentle kisses all over you, whispering soft praises in your ear when you're drifting off to sleep, and being supportive in return. Any time he gets a role in a movie, or even when he's letting you listen to a new song, you're bouncing up and down, getting all giddy and excited for him.
If there's anything that you both love to do, it's to show each other off, especially Joe. He loves letting the world know you're his, that could be through songs, interviews, kissing you in front of paparazzi, or even bringing you up to anyone that he talks to. Joe loves to talk about you to people, he will even bring up a new job opportunity that you got, and he will make sure that the people around you celebrate and congratulate you.
One time you and Joe were shopping for groceries to restock your cupboards, and you heard Basic Being Basic playing through the speakers in the background. He looked at you with the most stupid grin on his face. You spent the rest of the shopping trip rambling on about how proud you were of him, and how he has 'made it'. You stood on your tiptoes and pressed a sweet kiss to his lips, unable to stop smiling.
Another time you were on a girl's night out at a club, you weren't exactly drunk, but you were getting there. Tipsy definitely wasn't the word for it. You stumbled over to the DJ, demanding for them to play Djo. As soon as they gave in, you squealed and thanked them a few times before dancing around, telling everyone that this is your boyfriend playing. Joe came to pick you up after, and you told him that they played his music for you, and he laughed, loving how supportive you were.
You quickly checked for the time and smiled to yourself, feeling all warm and fuzzy. The building that would display his name was coming into view and you tucked your lip between your teeth. The view was absolutely gorgeous, the sun was setting behind the buildings, casting a stunning painting in the sky.
"Hey, Joe." You say, looking up at Joe and pausing your walking in the middle of the path. You feel your heart fluttering and your cheeks flushing, excited to see his reaction.
"Hey, baby." He grins, leaning down to press a sweet kiss to your lips.
"I may or may not have a surprise for you." You smile, your eyelashes fluttering.
Joe raises his eyebrows, a smile forming on his lips. "You don't have to surprise me baby, really, you do a lot for me already."
Your eyes flick to the building that is finally showing his name, and his eyes flick to the direction you're looking in. His hand tightens around your waist as he sees himself up there, his lips parted. You laugh at the sight of him looking so shocked.
"You like?" You laugh.
He looks absolutely amazed. "What— how— I have so many questions. Did you plan this?" He asks, looking back at you with the biggest grin on his face.
"I did indeed." You smile, gently brushing your thumb over his cheek.
"God, I love you." His voice cracks, leaning down again to kiss your lips, sliding his hands into your hair. You can't help but melt into him, smiling against his lips.
"I love you." You whisper, pulling back. "Now, please take a picture. I have no idea how long it's going to be up there for. They never gave me an exact time, so please don't miss it." You laugh.
He nods and slips his phone out of his pocket, turning his back to the building to take a selfie. He pulls you to his side and grins, taking a picture of you together in front of the building with his name displayed on it. His eyes are practically glistening, unable to take his eyes off you.
"You go above and beyond for me, baby. Thank you, seriously, I love you so much." He smiles, combing his fingers through your hair. "It's a competition now to see who is better at showing who off." He grins.
"Well, I think I'm winning. I got you up on a building in New York." You flash him a smile.
"We'll see about that. Could get your name tattooed on my forehead. That's permanent. The building was temporary." He laughs, teasing you.
"What's stopping me from getting you permanently on the building?" You grin.
"You got the money for that, hm?" He asks, chuckling as he brushes his thumb over your cheek.
"Well, no." You laugh.
"Me neither, don't worry." He grins, pulling you close to his chest, stroking his hands through your hair. "Thank you again, baby. I promise I will make it up to you." He whispers, earning a sweet smile from you. The busy crowd make their way around you, but you stay wrapped up in Joe's arms, forgetting about everything for a while.
