You were just trying to enjoy your morning. But, of course the world didn’t think you deserved that. It never did. You looked over your shoulder to see what the commotion was about, and saw a bunch of fishermen. Had something gone wrong with one of the ships? No, they’re not looking at any of the ships- but they were looking at the water. Curiously, your gaze went to the water. Your heart skipped a beat.
Merfolk never showed up this close to the harbor during the day! Something had to be wrong, right? You ran to the docks, quickly trying to find the best spot to get a better look. When you did, you could only stare.
Some fishermen were in the water, going after one of the two. The second was caught in a net, slowly being lifted towards the deck of the ship. Clearly, you should just go home and feel bad about it, it’s not your problem. You did nothing wrong. But you’re going to regret that, just like your father did.
All that registered in your mind was a loud splash, and a vague sting in your body. When your head was met with the surface of the water once again, you gulped for air. Quickly shaking off the feeling however, you went after the fishermen in the water. Grabbing the knives out of their hands and throwing them into the sea. Most of them realized what you were doing, and fled. Others, however, were mad beyond belief.
You managed to scare off everyone in the water, but now you have to get the other mer- Person? Merperson? You didn’t know, nor did you care at the moment. You took a deep breath and scaled the wall of the ship.
They were untangling the net when you made it up. You reached for one of the knives- but instead felt a pain in your shoulder. You screamed and turned around, now face to face with a mad fisherman. You knew it was a bad idea, but you reached for the knife in your back and pulled it out. Plunging it into the man's side. He cried out in pain, getting the attention of the other men. They rushed to his side as you ran to the net. The merperson within struggling to get out. You put your hand on the rope, pulled up and got to work on cutting him out.
The fishermen quickly got the man to shore, heading to the hospital. You, however picked up the merman (as you could now see what they looked like) and headed to the end of the docks. Red marks of irritation making their presence known as the pain began to set in for the young man. You set him down, and hopped down onto the small raft below, carefully avoiding the areas where he was hurt. You set him in the water, and looked around for the other merman. You saw him not too far away, so you stayed put. Using what little time you had, you looked over the young man still in your arms.
He had green hair- which suited him, oddly enough- you also noticed he had a bruise on his head. Must’ve hit the deck a little too hard. Was he unconscious? Great. You looked up, eyes meeting with the other man. You were in deep, weren’t you? You lowered yourself into the water, and motioned for them to follow you.
It was cold, and barely lit, but at least it was safe. You three were seated in a cave, luckily it had a shallow pool that connected to the sea. Hanzo, as you soon learned his name, was the older one with long black hair. His brother, the one with dyed hair (you felt that it was unnecessary for him to clarify that), was named Genji. You quietly helped Hanzo with what little medical supplies you had stashed here.
Now, however, he told you to just sit, as he could do it from here on his own. You nodded, and sat on the edge next to them. Silently watching Hanzo work on the cuts you hadn’t noticed before. A blush rose to your cheeks, however, when you felt someone grasp your hand. You let out a startled gasp, but that quickly turned into a pained groan when you tried to pull your hand back.. You moved your other hand to your shoulder, hissing at the pain. Taking a deep breath, you realized just how tired you felt. Eyes slowly closing before suddenly opening.
The quiet in the room (could you call it that?) was disrupted by the sound of water. You looked up, seeing Genji moving closer to you. You showed him a half-hearted smile in attempt to show that you were alright. He, however, was having none of it. He grabbed your knife that you stole, and cut off the fabric covering the wound. You blushed and stirred where you sat. The world loved mocking you, didn’t it? When you felt the fabric of your shirt beginning to slip down your chest, you quickly used your other hand to hold it up. You were not gonna be in front of to mermen shirtless- They were shirtless. It took you this long to realize- they had no…. You’d pretend that you just didn’t care, they’d never know, right? But oh, the world is cruel. Should you ever meet again after this, Hanzo decided, he would use that as blackmail.
You hissed at hanzo when he pulled a bit too tightly on the stitching. Did he really need to be that harsh? You felt Genji’s grip on your hand tighten as Hanzo let out a snide remark about your pain tolerance. You, being the person you are, were quick to ask him who got caught by the fishermen, who got caught by a net of all things, and just who did he think saved their lives? Genji chuckled, while Hanzo slapped your uninjured arm. You smiled, and laid you head on Genji’s shoulder, feeling a bit tired. As you drifted off to sleep, you could hear them arguing about you. But what caught you off guard, was when Genji Kissed your forehead.
You certainly did not regret saving them. But now, you’re in so much deeper than you ever intended to be. (Guess you could say you’re drowning, huh?)
