There was a larger part of him that was almost done with it all, and simply wanted to shake it out of both of them. Be done with toeing about the fact, and ignoring the way words lingered and eyes strayed longer than necessary. Done with the way his palm still burned from a memory half a day ago from something unintended.

Instinctive.

Something the huntsman had dredged up from the depths of his chest through these last few months, and something he hadn't felt for half a lifetime.

Something that felt safe to be around. Comforting.

And whether or not it was the wretched sickness talking for him, Clover could certainly do with a little more of what was being held before him, just out of reach. If only the two of them would simply step forward and grasp it properly.

He numbs himself against the longing that claws at his chest. Blocks out everything but the blinking cursor as it moves across a page. Finishes his work without a word of what he wishes he could be doing instead. Where he wishes he could be instead. Submits the report, secure in the knowledge he is doing all he can.

He shuts off the screen and sighs to himself.

Fair Game Week 2026 Day 4 - Bite | Stuck Together

The mission had gone... well, despite having been an uphill battle from the start. Clover's stupid luck had worn thin for the last few weeks, and the cold he'd picked up had put him firmly on his ass for a good portion of it. Regardless of the huntsman's protests, the brunet claimed that he was right as rain. Nothing to worry about, and they'd be back in time for breakfast.

Qrow felt the way the Manta's controls shuddered under his hands, and he whipped his gaze back to the blinding white of the blizzard. A quick glance at the instrument readouts all told him the same thing: wretched as hell conditions, but they were heading in the right direction.

Small miracles at least.

Clover lasted for the duration of the fight, but it had been an effort for him to keep ahold of Kingfisher by the end of it all. Sweat drenched him, and his breathing came hard and laboured; heat welling under his skin like a furnace, making him feel lightheaded. Not a fun feeling by any account. Qrow had all but bodily hauled him back onto the Manta, grousing the entire way at his condition, and the weak laugh he got in response was enough to send his stomach to his shoes.

They really should have left this mission to someone else.
