Ronan continued to hold her, wanting her to be able to get it all out. As much as it hurt seeing her so sad, sometimes people just needed a long cry and he would hold her for as long as she needed. He was always there for her and would always be there for her.Â
âYou are not failing.â Ronan immediately stopped Callie from going down that mental path. She was not failing them and as much as they werenât used to any of this, they would adjust. They were a hardy species that had survived thus far even with the entire world seemingly against them. He poked her nose, âCome on, Cantaloupe, you know that your mother would hate seeing you like this. I bet she would be so proud of all youâve accomplished. I know I am.â
He cupped her cheeks and wiped away her tears before peppering a few small kisses along her forehead. When her grip on him loosened and her sobs settled, he pulled away slightly. âI got you something.â After making sure she was okay to let go, he walked over to the box he brought and pulled off the blanket on top before pulling out the computer tower inside. âI finished the final few steps but look at what you made!â he announced.
A big part of her felt even worse...falling apart like this. She was supposed to be strong... Before she could truly continue thinking like that though Ronanâs voice pierced through and she hiccuped a little breath, sniffling as he pulled her head up so sheâd face him. Calliope tried ducking her head down for a moment, embarrassed to be seen such a mess--but that was another thing the man wasnât allowing as he instead cupped her face, gently wiped away her tears.Â
Even if his words just made more tears well up in her eyes.
âI miss her...â she sounded childlike as she said it and she closed her eyes, letting him continue to clean her up, her breathing stuttering with each soft little kiss he dotted on her and slowly, slowly, her grip on him loosened, was less desperate- and as he spoke and shifted, Callie took in a long, slow breath and allowed her hands to fall away from him, watching him all the while.
When he revealed what heâd brought, what he...what they made, Callieâs eyes widened a bit-- her face damp and splotchy but still showing her surprise clear as day. âRoe, you...- really?â a computer. Something she didnât even know existed months ago, and now..now sheâd helped make one..
