faecant:
there’s a lot of concepts and pulls that inspired emilie as a character/her story and the primary two would be the concept of identity and facades and playing into the wants and wills of other people (the question of whether or not staying in those roles long enough twists who you are and if the impressions you leave behind define you over who you actually were) while the other would be the idea of, despite any of your blessings, the universe kind of branding you for an unhappy ending.
#emilie's life is a tragedy that started out as a fairytale#every time life showed her a silver lining it was just out of reach#the rug gets pulled out from under her#not because she deserves it#not because she's a bad person#but just because that's the way the hand is dealt sometimes#when she dies she leaves behind traces of herself but never the full image#everyone that knew her knew her in a different way#the emilie that remy knew is a totally different shade to the emilie that lennon knew#and emilie knowing her time was limited bc she could just Feel it#and surviving in the only way she could figure out#by being whoever it was the people wanted#and having it backfire on her#is really just sad#and maybe you could say she got what she wanted#bc she did in a way#she wanted to be remembered and leave behind a legacy#but i don't think she had any control over it the way she hoped she could have#the same way she didn't have any control in life#but yeah i'll make a whole post talking about the other insp. i have for her#i.e. edie (obviously) marie antoinette marilyn monroe etc#and then artists and concepts like cindy sherman and the electra heart thesis and (of course) warhol and pop art overall#i am simply really proud of emilie as a character and everything i've put into her#and the world and cast of character carmen and i have built#like it's all so interesting and detailed and GOOD#another big theme is just the mistreated muse thing and how much do artists owe to their muses? bc remy certainly never really considered em#an equal partner and i doubt gives her any credit for her work even after she's gone
