â... the Wardens go too far. They need to be checkedâ
/ @blightbled
â   Yes, well. Wardens. Promises. Oaths. You know how it is.   â
There should be some sense of understanding there, he guesses, knowing her own brotherâs ties to the order. Heâs partially evasive, but he knows it wonât do him much good â and the invasiveness of this Calling, artificially induced or no, certainly doesnât make matters better. Theyâre in this together, for the time being. He rubs at his forehead with the back of his hand, wiping the accumulating sweat away with a sigh. Maker, do they ever have a lot to deal with. Nothing they canât handle, he supposes, with a half-hearted grin.
â   I would have told you earlier if I knew it was relevant to Corypheus. It was just bits and pieces, little hints here and there, at first.   â
âVery secretive. Carverâs never really said a word about it.â
She wouldnât have asked a dumb question had she known, but even despite her relatively close relationship with her younger brother, there had been an unknown secrecy, something she hadnât had the time nor the words to prod at him for. She sighs as the wind picks up again, and Hawkeâs gauntlet arm covers her face briefly until it passes. Maker, she never wants to see desert again, much less trudge through it without a horse.
âOf course. Though I canât help but to wonder what else might be related. Not that I doubt you or anything. Itâs just very... peculiar.â
since I miss my Hawke Iâm gonna talk about this big mage nerd here because itâs who I usually default to in my head.
Desdemona is an Entropy / Force mage, and spends hours at night reading tomes about magic. Sometimes, she gets so into it with her fingers fiddling off to the side that sheâll accidentally cast a spell. One time, it happened to the dog, hitting him with a minor nightmare cloud. She felt guilty for months after.
sheâs 6â˛1âł, and while not super buff, she trained enough to be able to wear a full set of armour in the days of being a smuggler with Carver. Just to prevent suspicions but also to make things easier in case they got rough. Her build is something like Gwendoline Christie.Â
she despises blood magic long before Leandra died, but considering how nasty entropy can get, itâs more than a little hypocritical on her end.
she actually really seemed to click and befriend Fenris, and out of the companions save for Isabela (the gf) and Varric of course, heâs her closest friend.Â
She sided mages of course, but there was a time she tried to talk to Meredith to see what she wanted and used the âflirtâ(purple) option just to try and butter her up to the best of her ability. It didnât work, but she made good coin on that bet.
Sheâs actually really close to Carver, as in she would fight the entirety of Kirkwall for him - exemplified in that quest in Act 3 when they kidnap him. You donât mess with her family.Â
While diplomatic and ultimately solving a lot of issues with just words, she has the means to be intimidating very quickly, because of her physicality and her way of speaking that gets the point across very quickly.
âCall it what you will, but are you sure you even know your limits? By all accounts, if you couldnât finish what you started the first time, what makes you think a second chance will change anything?â
Hawkeâs brow lifts upwards. âHe was dead by all accounts when we left. Far as Iâm concerned, that was finished. But I suppose coming back from the dead put a twist in all of it, and I will see it through. I earned my title. If I have to put on some cheery act to make it seem like Iâm willing, so be it.â

How long had it been? Because it felt like ages.
Kirkwall seemed like a dream now, and her time with the Dalish another dream within that dream. Yet sitting here with Hawke now felt so normal, in spite of all the time that had passed. She slid until her bum hit the stone, folding her legs until her knees were almost beneath his chin. Bare feet pressed into stone that had already begun to miss the sun, she allowed herself to simply exist for a moment in the other womanâs presence.
âI was beginning to think it would come to nothing,â she admitted. Merrill kept her eyes trained upon the ground, where crimson coloured nails made fine white lines on the ground. âIâm glad I was wrong. I have a feeling that weâll need the eluvian soon⌠Corypheus seems determined to use what my People left behind against us. I wonât let him have this, as well.â Her hand balled into a small fist, a determined look in her eye which melted away as she lifted her gaze to meet Hawkeâs.
âOh! Itâs alright. I knew you had to have your reasons⌠besides, Varric always told me what he knew.â
Thinking back upon the past had come to Hawke at night when unable to sleep. A decade had come and gone, and far more happened than she had ever anticipated fleeing to Kirkwall would entail. At least, she had been given the means to provide, to care, to help despite the cost of losing many along the way. Even now, it hardly felt the same, with only Varric and Merrill here at Skyhold. Sheâd sent Anders away, Isabela was still at sea, her brother among the Wardens, Aveline in Kirkwall, and her mother buried beneath the ground.Â
âFrom what Iâve been told, thereâs more to them than what it seemed.â Hawke answered quietly, breeze ruffling the fur of her mantle, and the taller woman drew her long legs up in the same fashion as Merrill had done. Her fingers traced along the sharp edges of her greaves, not caring for the small scratches they left behind in her skin.Â
âAs Iâm sure he did,â She was grateful, of course, to have been hidden while the likes of the Seeker and the spymaster had pursued her to be their so-called leader. âI wish it was a little less... complicated. Makes Kirkwall seem... easy, almost.â
âYou do not exactly keep a low profile,â he agrees. In truth, heâd begun forgoing his usual practices of hiding his markings, and sometimes even his ears. There seemed little reason to hide any longer, and the woman sitting across from him was a large part of that reason. He wasnât alone, and it was a strange sensation.
With her final comment, he smiles and raises his own drink in turn. âYouâve quite a collection of company now. How else would such a band work and travel together? The only common variable is you. Be careful, or youâll collect half of Lowtown.â
Part of him had to admit that she was right. It was alarmingly easy to grow accustomed to Kirkwall, and even to like it in some capacity.
âNo, though believe me, it wasnât necessarily intentional. Circumstances, am i right?â Desdemona nearly chuckles then. Sheâd always donned full armour, despite limiting her motions in battle if only to protect herself when working for Athenril. Even now, itâs still her preference rather than the obvious robes thatâd mark her a mage for miles.Â
She offers a lopsided smile in return, peering down at her glass a moment, debating if she requires more. âI do have some limits, you know.â She jests, of course. Hand her a baby and she might just adopt the poor child out of the goodness of her heart. A merry band of misfits is nearly no different, save for their lack of dependency for survival.Â
âI think now, for all of the bad, we have something... good, you know?â
@daisythedalish
Returning to Skyhold had come at an odd request from the Inquisitor. Sheâd expected to remain with the Wardens, to stay with them in place of their lost senior leader, but no objection was had on Hawkeâs part. They were only one step closer to stopping Corypheus and her work was not yet done.
Part of her imagined it might never be but at least the one in charge of it all proved themselves to be capable of fighting and leadership - far more than she had felt upon arriving at Kirkwall.Â
She had Varric - heâd been the one to hide her, keep her away from those desiring to find answers to the tragedy of the city-state left in ruins. Sheâd banished Anders, and took to leaving and never looking back. Carver had written, once or twice, but never more in the three years gone by. It was their responsibility to give their knowledge to the cause, to defeat an evil so vile that she had failed to finish those years ago.Â
At least, Merrill had been a surprising relief upon Hawkeâs return to the fortress, a smile upon her face despite the grave circumstances, and heavy thoughts that linger and weigh down upon her shoulders.Â
âIâm glad at least that the eluvian has become useful in all this,â She says, cup of water in hand as sheâs sat against the ramparts, crouched down with limbs stretched out. The night air of the mountains is a refreshing change of pace from Adamant. She turns to Merrill, corner of her mouth slightly upturned. âI do apologise for never writing after leaving Kirkwall.â Â Â Â Â
@blightbled
       âYou never mentioned it before.â
Their time together has perhaps, been forced by circumstance - a requirement of their titles, of their reputations and histories brought together to do what it is they do best. A Champion and a veteran Warden of the Fifth Blight. And perhaps she has been distant, desiring nothing more than to finish what she thought sheâd already killed, nothing more than settle it and be gone. Her gaze shifts to look at Alistair. The least she can do is get to know the man in the hopes of making the impossible feel a little more comfortable.Â
âAbout the the archdemon, I mean.â
@ofrevas
âIâve never been fond of spiders.â
Such a comment breaks the heavy silence that has fallen between herself and the Inquisitor. With the task at hand, there is much more to speak on; the Wardens, Corypheus and her past experience with the darkspawn, and while it isnât the first time Hawke has dealt with such grave situations, sheâs hoping for a little breathing room.Â
âBut theyâre not the worst things to deal with.              Especially not lately.â

Because I love suffering, LIKEÂ for an Inquisition verse starter.
She wasnât just a heroÂ
A small smile tugs at the corners of his mouth. âYou certainly have given her reason to take notice, havenât you?â The thoughts are troubling, and before heâd met her, he never would have had them. âBut that fortune should keep you safe from the Templars unless you blatantly use blood magic on the steps of the Chantry. Granted, if you did that, Iâd hand you over myself. In any event, youâve nothing to fear from the Knight Commander at present. You have your companions to guard you.â
You have me, he thinks, unsettled that he believes it. She would have him if needed. He would defend a mage against Templars if it came to that, and it felt⌠wrong. The simple yes and no of taking orders was no longer an option available to him, and while he relished it, he was also left wary and drained at the end of each day from the sheer weight of questioning himself and making decisions.
âIn spite of the food, it is hardly the worst place I have been. I⌠suppose I have grown disturbingly fond of Kirkwall, as well.â
âOne part was my own doing, sure - but the rest was by sheer circumstance. Though, Iâd peg her to be quite observant over any possible threat looming about the city.â Hawke has certainly spent time pondering, especially when overhearing the words that depict the Gallows as the worst place in all of the city - even more so than Darktown. âNo, you neednât worry about blood magic. I despise it and the principles surrounding it all. Far too messy beyond that.â
Of course, her own specialty within the art of entropy speaks little to no higher than that of the maleficarum, but she keeps quiet upon her art. The mention of her companions brings another smile to her lips - and a hand to put her plate and fork to the side to be taken away.
After all, her time here has been spent doing Maker knows what all across Kirkwall, but she wouldnât trade it for anything, truly. Itâs the beginning of making a life for herself with friendships along the way.Â
âIt does grow on you, I think. Besides, spending it in good company always helps.â And to that, Desdemona raises her drink.
Mouth immediately shuts, hues flickering past her if only for a moment.
         âHow have you been?â
She doesnât quite give him a look in return, but knows just what his expression would be.
âBeyond dealing with a dragon in the Bone Pit and being the   peacekeeper between the Knight-Commander and the First   Enchanter, not all that bad.â
Dogs are better than human beings because they know but do not tell.

âI donât blame you for being two-faced, Hawke. Itâs good politics, so long as you donât get caught at it.â
âI wouldnât call it being two-faced so much as knowing what my limits are. Iâm here to finish what I started, nothing more.â
