Human Jake Sully appreciation post

In the few pre-war scenes that we have, he seemed like a good father.

I personally don’t think it’s fair to label Jake as a bad father when we take context into consideration. He has made bad parenting choices but he’s not a bad parent all things considered. Jake’s actions towards his sons have been unnecessarily harsh (especially towards Lo’ak) and it’s not excusable, but that shouldn’t override all the good he has done.

He too deserves some grace/understanding.

Jake has been labeled as a traitor to humans, he was forced to leave his home, his son disobeys orders in life threatening scenarios, his other son was killed, his wife hates a part of him, etc. He is going through it!

Jake is in military/leader mode; that is not something you can easily shut down, especially when people are actively dying and looking up to him for guidance. His sons wanted to be warriors like him, which in turn lead to Jake treating them like a squad. He doesn’t know how to simultaneously balance the title of being father and leader.

Their broken relationship is just another thing war took away from them.

i kinda got randomly sad about how neteyams character from concept was planned to die. despite that i genuinely wish we knew more about him & the homesickness he was going through silently. i always wonder if he had friends/crushes back with the omatikayans or new developing relationships with the Metkayinas… instead WE GOT CRUMBS?? some crumbs not even being canon 💔
