Night Out || River & Nick
River smirked and shook her head. “I don’t think so. You and I both know that there’s only about five or so people who have absolutely no fear of you, and one of them is me. Most of the students will listen to you, especially considering that you’re teaching them to duel and can probably knock them on their arses in three casts or less. On a bad day.” She shrugged lightly. “It only takes one cocky student and one proof of ability to pull everyone back in line for a long time. It’s not really as difficult as it’s made out to be.”
She took a small sip of her drink, nodding and smiling at him. “I know he is. As long as something unexpected doesn’t happen to Sherlock or anyone else he really cares about, he will be.” She beamed at him, a bit excited to be able to get back into dueling. To be honest, it was one of her favorite things to do, the feeling even more extreme if it was actually potentially dangerous. She couldn’t help it, it just wasn’t that attractive to her if it didn’t involve at least a tiny bit of danger. “I can’t wait to start, then.” River couldn’t help but laugh. “A relief? I think you have it all wrong. I don’t hold back on anything I do, that includes duels. If anything, you’ll have to pay more attention when we dance in the ring.” She hummed in thought for a second before a mischievous grin graced her lips. “Why don’t we make this more interesting? When we actually duel, whoever “loses” has to buy the “winner” dinner. Sound fair enough? After all, I think you’ll have the advantage here with the more recent ability to practice. Unless you don’t think you have a chance.”
"But isn't that a week spot he should get rid of? That boy should learn that we can't protect everything and we can't hang on it forever." Nick's voice lost its lightness. Of course, Fury himself got those week points, but at least he felt quite sure that nobody except few people didn't know about it. "I would be more than amused if he understood that with or without my help." Man smiled quite widely after seeing excitement at the other's eyes. Yes, he hadn't met a wizard or a witch, who wasn't into a bit danger. Maybe that wizarding community separated from Muggles. When most of the latter tried to fit into frames created by society, while Wizards greeted every new day as a adventure.
"Well, really not today. I don't think that we would be in our best after few drinks," he smiled crookedly. "Oh, River, you don't know what I call a relief and if what you promise is legit, then I can hardly wait for that," Fury couldn't and didn't want not to smile at her. "Ah, either way it's a dinner and it doesn't really matter to me, who pays for it," he replied. "We made the deal," he nodded and raised his glass.
Night Out || River & Nick
River smiled lightly and nodded. “That’s most certainly the truth. Though it might be a bit different if they get too comfortable with the idea.” She smirked at him, gaining a bit more confidence that her son was going to be okay. “Though, likely with your training and practice regiments, I doubt you’ll allow them to get too comfortable with any idea. The moment you let your guard down is the moment something goes wrong. They’ll be okay, they have to be.”
"Extremely smart," she smiled and agreed. River released a light laugh and shook her head. "No, I understand, and I can’t ask you for that. I would rather him stay in as close to one piece as possible, though. If you can manage that." River smiled and gave Nick a light thanks, sipping her drink once again. She looked up at him in a bit of surprise before thinking. "It’s been a few years since I did any sort of dueling. Well, maybe a bit more than that. Perhaps it would be a good idea to sharpen my skills a bit. It wouldn’t do me any good to be unprepared." She gave him a bright smile. "If you don’t mind me stopping by from time to time."
"I am really amused, but I think you over-rate me here, River," he smiled with usual crooked smile and slowly nodded to himself. "I will try to keep them in line. However, hell knows if they're going to listen to me." Well, grown wizards and witches listened to him wherever he were, but pupils was different business that required a bit different skills.
"Can't promise anything," he quietly laughed and took another sip from his glass. "I think he will be clever enough to keep himself from main fire." He waited for her response and it made him chuckle. "Oh, believe me, River, it would be a honour to be yours partner in training," he replied. "Besides, it would be a relief after training bunch of youngsters."
Night Out || River & Nick
River smiled slightly as she lightly gripped onto his hand, glad to have something to ground her in the present. She hated thinking about it, and it made it easier to not if she had something to bring her back, to remind her they were just memories and that John was okay, that he and Sherlock and everyone else she cared about were going to be okay. She nodded. “I know I can’t. I know it,” River sighed, looking away from him, “But they don’t deserve anything else bad happening to them, none of them do. Not with everything they’ve already been through.”
She bit her lip lightly and nodded. “Yes. It’s not that secretive really.” River smiled, sighing. “He has the same feeling as I do: he wants to be able to protect everyone he cares about so that none of us have to get hurt again. And, as much as I don’t want to admit it, your group is the best way for him to learn how. As much as I don’t like the idea of the war coming, it’s going to happen either way, and I’d rather have confidence that he knows how to protect himself than allowing my sentiments to harm him later. So, yes, he knows, but we both understand that this is good for him.”
“No one deserves what is upon us,” he said thoughtful looking somewhere behind her. It was quite scary to think about that. However, he needed to be tough. And he needed everyone else around him to be in the same shape. “They say, what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. Well, I always say, that it should’ve tried harder. Let’s hope that when they’ll face something we really don’t want them to face, they will look at the centre of it and say, meh, been worse,” he tried to laugh but couldn’t. Always to hope. Fury felt like he was bloody fool because hope became his mother.
“Well, he is very smart boy then. Smart and good. But I can’t promise you to keep him from harm. I can promise to try keep him from losing body parts,” he grinned and finished his drink. Then he saw a young waitress collecting empty glasses from table next to them. Nick asked her to bring whole bottle to them. Waitress nodded and left. It took only two moments to her to comeback with bottle of firewhisky and leave again. “By the way, if you feel a bit rusty, you can join us,” he added refilling River’s glass.
Night Out || River & Nick
She blinked in surprise at his question, looking down at her drink. She hadn’t even thought about how strong it was, much less thought it difficult to swallow, not realizing it was a big deal. River shrugged lightly. “I’ve had a lot stronger during my travels.” She grimaced lightly at the memory of it. “It may have tasted disgusting, but it sure was guaranteed to get you drunk twice as fast as anything else. After drinking that for a while, there’s not much that tastes nearly as strong.” River smiled a bit teasingly at him, finishing off the reset of her drink. “I think I’ll take that challenge, though I do rather like being able to use my throat.”
River watched him as he asked the question, looking down at her lap soon after, gripping her hands tightly together as memories of the time came rushing back to her. It was something that they all tried to forget about and move away from as much as possible. She didn’t want to tell him the details, it wasn’t her place nor did she want to think about it, but he deserved to know something. “It was before this whole war issue started, before it became a daily concern and before Sherlock ‘fell,’” she began quietly. “There was a boy who had a rather invested interest in Sherlock, and he used John as a means to show the extent of that interest. He… he tortured my son, both physically and mentally.” She shook her head quickly, trying to get rid of the images of Sherlock finding him bloody and broken, calling her and the two of them getting him to the infirmary as quickly as possible. The nine sleepless days they had sat by his bed, waiting for him to wake up and the slight relief they felt when he finally did. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself. “And not long after that, the boy shot himself, Sherlock ‘fell,’ and John fell into a horrid state of depression. For a while there, I asked him to stay with me, frightened to death that he was going to something to end of all of it, and that I was going to lose my son. If not for Greg helping him like he did, I might have.” River sighed, looking up at him. “I guess you could say that’s why I was so hesitant about letting him join your group, though I know it’s better he does, for his own protection. I’m just scared to lose him again.” She smiled, laughing at herself. “I know it’s silly, but I can’t help it. The feeling was waning for a while, but with the threat of the war, it’s only increased again.”
Fury listened her with seriousness on his face, time from time nodding. He saw that for her it was kind of hard to remember and tell this whole story again but he needed to know. He needed to know his students pressure point. Why? Well, first of all, he hoped that if he knew that point, he could help to make it less sensible. Also, it helped him to know what to expect from foe’s side. Professor reached for River’s hand and held it as she was speaking. “River, you can’t always be there for him. Even though he lives in the same castle but you just can’t. Maybe mothers have a tendency to overreact or to be overprotective over their children,” he tried to sound supportive and that kind of worked for him. He let her hand and leaned back from her. “Does John understand that you’re trying to protect him?” Fury asked calmly and took another sip of his drink.

Night Out || River & Nick
She shrugged. “It can be, but that’s why you need more than one reliable source and then have to check it yourself.” Rumors were frequently a two-edged sword, especially if the owls had any hint on it. Of course, any answer you gave, any fact you used to dissuade such fears and ideas did nothing but come back tenfold. Rumors really were an endless fountain of both fact and fiction. So, if they weren’t going to stop anyway, some of it might at least prove useful.
River grinned. “I’m sure I can imagine.” She took another sip or so of her drink. It wasn’t the strongest thing she’d ever had, but it was still rather good. She had a bit of a hard time not smiling at the faces Nick made while drinking his. She raised an eyebrow at him curiously, unsure about what he would be asking about. “You can certainly ask, and then we’ll find out if I’m willing to answer or not. What is it?”
"I'm sure you do," he chuckled looked down at his hands for one or two moments. Then he looked at her again. "All right, no facial expression drinking this?" he showed with his finger at his glass. "It seems this stuff isn't strong enough for you," the crooked smile showed up on his face as he was reacting to River's calm face after drinking firewhisky. "I have at cabinet something from New Orleans. If this feels like water then that stuff will burn throat out," he continued after another sip of drink.
The he put his glass on the table and locked his fingers together. "I've heard that something happened in school while I was gone. Well, happened a lot, actually and I still try to catch up," he stated and leaned to her. "I've heard that something had happened to John. However, there isn't anyone close enough to him to tell me what had happened exactly."
The Invitation || Nick & Pepper
Pepper listened as her professor spoke, a look of surprise crossing her face with a glimmer of excitement in her eyes. A Dueling Club? She bowed her head bashfully, thanking him for the compliments as well as the invitation itself. “Professor, I would love to.” She told him, another smile on her face. “I’m flattered to receive such an invite. When does it begin?”
Fury grinned and nodded. "Well, your enthusiasm amuses me, Ms. Potts," he replied and was ready to go and have a walk by the lake when he was reminded of very important thing that he got kind of forgotten.
"Oh, yes... Well, Ms Potts, you see. I have a problem and you know that problem personally," he hid his hands behind his back. "Mr. Stark is very hard to persuade. I need your help. Tony is one of the most talented students I have. I wouldn't say the best wizard of his age but not bad. And I think he looses really a lot not joining my duelling lessons," he sounded carelessly like Tony joining his class wasn't the top priority. "Don't try to push him too hard. I see that doesn't help at all. But telling him that it could be an useful experience, would work just fine," Nick grinned and nodded her before leaving. "But I think soon enough you should get a note, Ms. Potts." He added and went on his own ways.
Night Out || River & Nick
River smiled lightly. “Yes, now you do.” She sighed as she quickly looked around and back at him. “They get bored. So, instead of focusing their energy on something useful, they begin rumors and see how far they spread. Sometimes the rumors are helpful, but it’s usually just a bunch of nonsense.” It made it difficult to use the rumor mill as a source of information, but sometimes it certainly helped. Such as being able to know that madame Kovarian was up to far more than just ensuring the safety of the students as she was supposed to. And that everyone seemed to be a target of hers. But, there was still only so useful and truthful it could be, even if it did sometimes give helpful hints.
She smiled and followed his lead, smiling at a few of the students that she passed. Most of them blushed and turned away, embarrassed that they had been caught staring and probably trying to figure out what the two were doing together. It was almost amusing at how easily they were unnerved.
River smiled and thanked him when she walked in, looking around for somewhere to sit. It was rather crowded, but then again, it was a Saturday, so it was to be expected. She gave him a light nod as she weaved her way through the crowd to the table, taking the available seat and smoothing out her dress as she waited, just people watching in the short time. She shook her head lightly in amusement when he returned, thanking him for the drink. “Showing off a bit, hmm?” she teased, before sipping at her drink. “I haven’t been here in a long time. It certainly hasn’t changed much since then. Funny how some things don’t seem to.”
"Well, if they're useful they can be harmful, if you know what I mean," he looked around suspiciously after he replied to River. Merlin knows, if information about his club or about himself won't be leaked as rumours. In his opinion, rumours were an dangerous gun that could destroy governments. "I think we should be careful with what we hear, though. It can mislead as well," he said that firmly and more silent.
"Well, you should see what I can do with couple of hungry vampires," he chuckled and raised his glass before taking a sip. The firewhiskey was strong and you could see that from his facial expressions. "Well, you should see Madam Rosmerta. Hasn't changed a bit." Nick smiled. "Can I ask something? If you don't feel like answering, it's good, but I really would like to know some things from witnesses, not from rumours."
Night Out || River & Nick
"it seems that we do. Though I’m sure there’s more than just that." She smiled, looking at him, shaking her head lightly. "No, it’s sweet, thank you. It would be really sad if I was. I can’t imagine not being able to enjoy them from time to time." It was funny how something so simple could almost instantly bring up her mood, from time to time. Just as his presence seemed to, when they weren’t talking about the war anyway.
River nodded at his suggestion. “Something stronger than butterbeer, and far less students to run into. They come up with enough rumors on their own, don’t you think?” She smiled at him. No matter what, there were going to be rumors, there always were and they were usually incorrect. Giving them less ammunition would certainly be easier to deal with, at least until something developed. If something developed at all. And, somewhere like the Three Broomsticks would give them a better ability to talk, without students interrupting them as often as if they went somewhere else. “Shall we?”
"Well, then I will know how to make your day better if I needed," he nodded grinning and gazing at River's face. His last partner didn't like flowers because she thought of them as dead. It was nice to know someone, whom you can give picked flowers.
"We should really try to keep their minds in exams and not in professors' personal lives," he agreed with River. Well, maybe Fury didn't need to worry about rumours as much as he did, because his image in front of other students didn't left space to create ones. And if there were ones, it should had been about how many people or werewolves he had killed. Or strange fetishes. You can never know what to expect from those kids. "We shall," he nodded and started to walk there. One or two students looked at them a bit longer than they should, but others were too busy with their own business.
When they had reached the Three Broomsticks, which wasn't really far from the place they'd met, Fury opened the door and let River to enter first. He looked around and it was crowed as usual, but the table in the corner was free. Only for one, though. "Go there, I will get two shots and a chair," he grinned and went to the bar request both things. After few moments he came back with chair in one hand and with a wand floating drinks in another. "Here you go," he landed glasses on the table and sat on the chair.
The Invitation || Nick & River & John
John blinked, watching the professor for a moment. If things became more chaotic, knowing how to defend himself would come in handy. But, if things went to normal on their own, being able to meet Healers would come in handy. He’d have more under his belt than just helping in the infirmary here.
But that wasn’t was Fury was after. No, John could see it enough. He wanted to train people who were on the right side, those who didn’t want to join the supremacists. He wanted to have student soldiers. It was funny—when he was younger, he considered joining the military to get away. Now, well, now would be to fight for what he cared for. To be ready to defend it and help as much as he could.
He wasn’t a prime candidate, he knew. That much was obvious. But he wouldn’t give up an opportunity that could save his life. “Yeah. I’ll join.”
Nick smiled and satisfaction was visible on his face. "I am amused to have you in my club, John," Nick answered and patted his shoulder again. "However, I must warn you, that club is private and it'b be kept between members of the club and me, am I clear?" he asked trying not to sound menacingly.
At first he glanced at River, then nodded her head to her. "It's always nice to see you, Professor Song," he grinned and then turned his head to John. "I will see you on Monday in my class. Wait for further notice, Mr. Watson," he nodded to him and walked to the lake. It was going good so far and if odds will be in his flavour, soon enough he will have an army of extraordinary students.

The Invitation || Nick & Pepper
Pepper walked along with her classmates breathing in the sweet air. She hadn’t realized just how much she missed being out and about without all the blustery wind and snow. As she approached the building she heard her name and spun on her heels, looking in the voice’s direction.
"Oh. Hello, Professor Fury," she greeted him with a smile. "Of course; I’ve got a bit of time to spare. How are you?" She stood tall, holding her books to her person.
Nick grinned and put his hand behind "I am alright, Ms. Potts. How are you?" he asked his student. "You see, I am creating a duelling club. It's not for everyone because I think that quality is more important than quantity, so this group is for few students. Extraordinary and, well, favourite ones. You're top student, Ms. Potts, I don't see any reason why you would like to join." He finished his speech waiting for girl's respond.
Night Out || River & Nick
River heard Nick approach and turned her focus from the students to him, smiling brightly, standing up and lightly brushing off her cloak. “It’s alright, it’s very easy to lose track of time. I do, frequently.” She smiled brighter when he offered the flowers, taking them graciously and holding them to her. She had never really been given flowers before. Then again, none of the other men she had been with had probably thought that she would like them. Just because she liked guns, a bit of trouble, and getting dirty, didn’t mean that disliked the sweeter gestures. She traced the edges of one with one of her fingers, loving the feel of it. “They’re beautiful, thank you.”
She smiled, looking back up at him and nodding toward the town. “So, what shall we do? I haven’t really been here in… well.. years, so I barely remember what’s here. You can choose since you were “late”.” It had been far too long since she was last here, longer than she would have liked to admit, but he really didn’t need to know that. Besides, she was sure she would enjoy herself far more now than then, appreciate it more. River tilted her head curiously, watching him think about it.
Nick raised one corner of his lips when his opponent confessed, that she gets lost in time, too. "It seems that we have something in common," he chuckled. He watched students to pass and when heard River's voice he turned his head to her. "I am glad that you like them. It would be really awkward if you hated flowers or were allergic to them," he replied feeling like a seventeen-year-old. He couldn't understand why but he kind of enjoyed. It helped him not to think about things that usually haunt him.
Professor looked at the houses and tried to think of place that would be good enough for them to be and not be disturbed by students or others. Drawing that kind of attention would bring rumours and the last thing he wanted was students chattering about what their professor had done during weekend but not doing actual tasks. "The Three Broomsticks should be a good place to chat and drink something stronger than butterbeer," he grinned. Nick wanted her suggest his arm but he refused the idea because it could look a bit too much just for friendly trip to the pub. And, yes, of course, rumours he didn't want.
Night Out || River & Nick
River was early, as per usual. But she couldn’t help herself when she was excited. It had been an awfully long time since she’d been out with anyone, well anyone she could see herself considering as more than a friend, so she moved a bit faster than she normally would. Really, it didn’t feel as long of a time until she actually thought about it. Helping John and Sherlock and Nick, among other students, through their school years occupied a majority of her time, so she really didn’t notice that she hadn’t paid much attention to her personal life. Perhaps she purposely made it that way, especially since her last few relationships didn’t go all that smoothly.
But, she had no real reason to be thinking too deeply into this. After all, they were just going out to relax, take their minds off of the war and the like. Maybe have a few drinks and learn more about one another while they were at it. If a relationship grew out of it, great, but River knew not to get her hopes up too high, just in case. She waited by the station for Nick to arrive, relaxing and watching the various students walk by in pairs or groups, entertaining herself by imagining what each were up to, just to pass the time.
Nick's personal life was quite complicated. Nick himself couldn't completely understand how things could happen to him. Sometimes he thought that he is two completely different persons who share only the same look. Since he was a little boy, he wanted simple life when he could give himself away for his country. Then, when he got older, he got some kind of need two have something called relationships. Yes, he dated girls but it didn't work out for him because he couldn't feel attached to them. He wanted to be an Auror, to be the best of the best, to be remembered as a hero. Then war broke out and he had his chance to become one. But he didn't. Finally he understood that he didn't want and that. But somehow he met a witch called Deborah. Long story short, because of distance they broke up and after few months he knows that she is pregnant. And she gave him a new goal. To be a good father. So place for personal life he didn't leave a lot but he felt like he wanted really something more. And he started to want it since he started to interact with River really often.
If River was early, then Nick was late. He was writing a letter to Debby, asking photos of their daughter and when he finally eyes got on a clock. Bloody late, actually. He cursed himself, changed his drapes and left Hogwarts on his broom, thinking, that he would reach their meeting place quicker. He landed near the location they were going to meet and before walking to her, he bought tulips from old witch. "My apologies. It doesn't happen often but when it happens I'm really late," he smiled and showed her flowers.
The Invitation || Nick & Pepper
It was Saturday and weather was warm enough to spend whole day outside. Nick decided to wait before Hogwarts' entrance for Virginia Potts. She was one of those students worth teaching because she was always ready to know something new and later to show what she has learned. Always in time. That girl, Fury thought, will go far just because of her hard work.
Fury saw group of students coming towards him so he straightened himself and waited them to pass him. "Ms. Potts, could you share a bit of your time with me?" he asked firmly waiting hers response.
The Invitation || Nick & River & John
John blinked, lips pressed together as he heard the idea. He knew that the school used to have some instruction on dueling, but now it was mostly left to the students to figure out on their own—or not figure out at all. But he knew dueling had its uses. If he ever got attacked, then he would know the best ways to defend himself, how to respond and how to come out intact. Even with that sense of war going on about, he wasn’t sure how much use he could get out of it.
"You say it’s for Aurors." He said, looking up after a minute of thought. "I want to be a Healer when I get out of school." He fidgeted a bit, thinking it over. If the rumors were true, then perhaps everyone would have a benefit in learning this. If he was taking care of someone, and they were attacked, then everything could depend on whether or not he was able to respond and protect those who couldn’t protect themselves. And, if he was out with Sherlock again and chasing after people, their lives could be saved with a split second reaction from dueling. It could benefit him immensely, he knew, but he just wasn’t certain if he was the kind that Fury was looking for.
"I want to learn." he said finally. "But there are probably more qualified candidates than me. You should probably know that."
"I think a Healer must know how defend themselves," Nicholas stated. "Besides, if you need help I can help you to meet some Healers that could help you to get ready to become one." Nick continued putting his hands behind his back. He knew that boy like John would understand that club's purpose not necessarily is to be prepared for Auror's position or to revive that kind of activity in school. Fury could only wonder if John truly understands if he shouldn't share his thoughts and experience with everyone around.
"I am not gonna lie. There are. But in this club is place for anyone that knows and understands that it will be useful. And, well, some of my favourites. I left you to decide on which side you are," he nodded with grin on his face and patted John's shoulder.

The Invitation || Nick & Tony
"I’m learning more useful things by myself, since this school keeps skipping the important things," Tony replied before he made his way to the door, only stopping and turning around to look at the professor as he spoke again.
He narrowed his eyes at the question. He was sure he could protect himself, but he wouldn’t answer this. Instead, with his his eyes on Fury, he said firmly, ”We are not soldiers.” The most recent war had been only almost seventeen years ago, and although that had been the exact time since the first war had ended - he wasn’t going to partake in any war planning Fury or the other teachers had. He wasn’t a soldier; none of them were.
Nick waited until Tony left classroom. The boy was right. But kids that fought in Hogwarts battle, weren't soldiers either. However, they decided to fight for what they'd believed against darkness. He really didn't know Stark's kid. But if anyone asked him now, why did Tony let down Nick's invitation, he would answer with one word. Fear. Well, after this word would follow arrogance. So, Stark had more than one reason to not join Nick's club. The most important thing was to recruit others.
The Invitation || Nick & River & John
She smiled lightly. “I can’t imagine anyone truly is. But sometimes it does have rather pleasant consequences, to make up for the times it doesn’t.”
River gave him a light smile and nodded. She would really prefer that they didn’t fight at all, that none of the students would have to. They were jut children, and shouldn’t be in the war, but it was something that she had no control over, as unfortunate as it was. And being able to protect themselves and what they cared about was far better than doing nothing at all. “Thank you. If he does, just make sure he’s trained well enough, else it’s your arse I’ll be coming after.” Her tone was teasing, but the meaning was anything but.
She rolled her eyes lightly at the two. Of course they wanted their team to win, any house would. And, since Jo had been captain, the team had been doing very well. Still, to her it seemed a bit of a silly thing to be something even close to serious about. River gave John a reassuring smile. “And it’s completely your choice of whether or not you want to be a part of it. You can say no at any time.”
John blinked, looking between the two. Their expressions were light enough, he supposed, but there was definitely a bit of tension. Then again, there was a lot of tension in the school anyway. Things were happening and changing, after all. And his mother’s disclaimer was enough to raise a couple alarms. But he stayed casual, knowing that he could simply be mistaken. It wouldn’t be the first time.
"Right. And what is this club, exactly?"
"Then I should really watch out because only Merlin knows what kind of power you have," his smile as always was crooked when he was telling that. He River knew for really not that long that he could say what kind of witch she was. And somewhere in the corner of his mind he wanted to know this woman better.
Nick glanced at River who sounded a bit over-protective but then he remembered that Debbie was always like this since her pregnancy start. The he looked at John. "Well, it's duelling club.
