    He sighs, he really, really wasn’t all that interested in going with her to see some sappy romance movie. Despite being some what of a Casanova as some would call it, he himself was not all that interested in romance as a genre. As a concept and practice in the real world? that was fair game, he was always a sucker for a good real life love story. Fiction though? not his style, he much preferred detective movies (go figure). 

    And yet, he finds himself closing his ever thickening binder of increasingly important paperwork, finding himself entirely unable to resist her charms. Despite being, genuinely, one of the most annoying people he’d ever met (Gold was the most annoying), something about the way she did it was just kind of cute, like an excited Lillipup desperately trying to get your attention. It was inconvenient, flat out annoying but….who can be mad at a cute little Lillipup?

    “Fine fine…you’ve convinced me, I suppose since apparently you can’t track down Diamond, Pearl, or literally anybody but me, the one with a job, and I wouldn’t want a refined lady such as yourself to be out alone on the streets it’s my job to keep you company…” he was really trying his best to at least flirt a little bit considering how unenthusiastic he was about this. His material wasn’t that bad all things considered but he knew damn well he could do better….he was actually oddly irritated with himself now that he thought about it.

    “I’m serious, when he realized that the door was fire proof and he couldn’t just knock it down with Typhlosion he just tried punching it with his own bare hands instead of just letting me knock it down myself with Geraint. I swear…I’ll begrudgingly admit that I like Gold a lot but he’s such an idiot I can barely fathom how he’s as strong as he is. Still…the simplest of minds can come up with the most brilliant ideas when they need to I suppose…”

    Well, by some miracle he’d found a way to get himself out of this hole he’d dug for himself. In his defense, technically he hadn’t done anything wrong so to speak…not until she’d shown concern. As a part of his job he’d gone with a swat team to try and apprehend some stragglers of Team Flare that had made their way to Unova in an attempt to avoid capture. One piece of misinformation led to another and it turned out that the small handful of stragglers were considerably more threatening than they’d first expected. He of course, was fine. He was a strong trainer who was more than capable of handling a few grunts.

    Still…Hilda had shown concern for him which was initially, not nearly as angry as he himself had amped her up to be. A simple ‘are you okay’, that’s all, but he’d managed to say yes in the most “Im fine but I shouldn’t be” way possible that only made her grow more concerned til eventually she was flat-out furious that he’d be as reckless as she thought he had been (again, he was actually in control of the situation and wasn’t really in any danger, he was just bad at dealing with people being concerned for him).

    So, he fell back on his tried and true method of dodging this kind of conversation, the good ‘ol “at least I’m not as bad as Gold”, and it worked like a charm! quickly falling back on an anecdote about the time he let Gold assist him on a mission where he royally screwed up before the mission even started, and he was in the clear! now they were sitting here laughing about Golds idiocy. Hurrah!

    “…Yes, perhaps I could. It would certainly be easy” He pauses for a moment. Unwavering in his intent yet still hesitant as he spoke. Reminiscing on times gone by, specifically, times he’d much rather forget. Times when all he need do was turn a blind eye to live an easy life, free of challenge…a life he wanted to leave behind. 

    “With that said, I’m afraid I will not. It’s my duty, as a member of the Interpol, as well as champion of the Unova league, to apprehend people like you. Unfortunately for you, I was the one who ended up finding you. Had it been somebody less experienced you might just have managed to get away.” He shrugged, almost nonchalantly as he pulled out his Pokeball.

    “Well, one person can only be so lucky I suppose. I’d give you the usual spiel about coming in peacefully, but I get the feeling that’s a waste of both our times. Get ready however you want, but I’m taking you in.”

    He feels his heart wretch as she leans against him. His body flinching just for a moment out of habit over the unanticipated touch. It hurt him, more than he’d ever expected it to, that his sister would have to struggle through something as...normal as standing up because of Team Plasma. Because he hadn’t been able to keep her safe (Never again. He’d never fail her again). That was mostly the reason he’d elected to stay here, with her, instead of moving out into the wider world. Perhaps it was him being cautious or overprotective, but after everything that happened he couldn’t leave her.

    He forces a smile, closing the binder of paper work he’d been pushing through and pulls her forward just a little to place a light kiss on her forehead.

    “Of course, just say the word and I’ll be there. I promise”

    The words were like a plague on his ears. This scum who had tortured so many, directly or not, on the run once again. It wasn’t Nate’s job to pursue such a man. No, there was no doubt in his mind that the Interpol already had somebody on his trail. Yet here was, standing face to face with him once again, and it sickened him to his very core.  There was no emotion on his face, Ghetsis wasn’t a man who was worth it. Not anymore. His freedom was something Nate felt directly responsible for, so he would be the one to take him in. He would defeat Ghetsis, and this time, there would be no getting away.

“ ueueueue … y, you know, a bit of tact really wouldn’t hurt … isn’t charm supposed to be your strong suit ? “ still, with a reddened face, she holds out her hand expectantly for him; it’s unlike her to refuse an opportunity to be treated with affection, after all. 

    “Ha...well perhaps in regular circumstances. However knowing you I felt you’d respond well to me being a bit more blunt. Still, if you’d like me to ‘lay on the charm’ as some would put it, I’d be more than happy to” A smug smirk tugs at his lips as he places a chaste kiss on her knuckle.
